0:00:03 Clip: What's so scary about the woke mob? How often you just don't see them coming. Anywhere you see diversity, equity, and inclusion, you see Marxism and you see woke principles being pushed. Wokeness is a virus more dangerous than any pandemic hands down. The woke monster is here and it's coming for everything.
0:00:33 Clip: Instead of go-go boots, the seductress green M&M will now wear sneakers.
0:00:42 Thomas: Hello and welcome to Where There's Woke. This is episode 135. I'm Thomas. That over there is Lydia. How are you doing?
0:00:46 Lydia: Hi, I'm feeling proud. How are you feeling? Are you allowed to answer? Yeah, well, it's June. So that means it's Pride Month, which
0:00:49 Thomas: Hmm. I don't... I don... Am I allowed to... Am I allowed to feel proud? I don' know. Yeah.
0:00:59 Lydia: Means if you ask any conservative, they're all hiding right now.
0:01:02 Thomas: Yeah. Well, this is when we execute straight people, so...
0:01:05 Lydia: So yeah, our annual tradition.
0:01:08 Thomas: How many kills do you have? How many confirmed kills do you have this year? Yeah. Not... That's a good answer.
0:01:10 Lydia: Not enough. Um thank you uh yeah I'm not going to be able to go to any like official pride events this year just by nature of work and everything that we have going on but I wanted to make sure that we still spent some time oh I wanted to make sure that we spent some time on the show talking about some stories involving pride because of course as every pride month comes So comes the annual freak out from conservatives. Nope. Nope, no.
0:01:28 Thomas: Well yeah and you hate gay people but it's like oh they're not being chill and they're not being chilled this time oh it's so weird and it's still weird too because they control literally every single lever of power in the federal government and all that you would think they'd feel like all right let them have pride now you know because like what harm is it going to do you control
0:01:57 Lydia: So I think it's worse, actually.
0:02:01 Thomas: Everything yeah well it wouldn't have to be
0:02:02 Lydia: I mean, like when you look at some of the statistics and stuff, too, like even from Republican voters, and it could be that people have always felt this way and just feel more empowered to share this in surveys. But the support for LGBTQ folks has dropped from Republican voters. Yeah.
0:02:17 Thomas: Yeah I covered this uh so if you remember last year I did that stupid um god horrible New York Times remember for pride when they did yeah that was just disgusting and uh I think I might have covered it then so there's a couple things going on yeah for one there's that but also in particular this year because they control
0:02:24 Lydia: Yeah, I remember. Yeah front page. Yeah. I think it continues to drop. Yeah.
0:02:37 Thomas: Everything they need to distract even more especially when things are going badly because yeah they do the culture war stuff obviously to take control and then you know benefit rich people
0:02:43 Lydia: And the economy is terrible and no one has jobs.
0:02:48 Thomas: And all that but then when things are going bad it's like they don't have anything else to do so they just have to like hammer that even harder because otherwise you'd have to be like wait aren't you guys in control of stuff what are you doing in there is it going well no you can't have that
0:03:02 Lydia: They'd have to confront their policy failures. Yeah.
0:03:02 Thomas: You don't want to yeah can't do that so it'slike ah gay people
0:03:07 Lydia: So I want to spend some time today talking about some of their freak outs currently and sort of break them down a little bit. And I think arm ourselves a little better.
0:03:16 Thomas: I'm excited to uh hear some tales of super chill cool behavior for pride all right well we're gonna take a break please support the show patreon .com where there's woke it's so important and uh you're the best everyone who supports us is the best the only reason we can do this and the only reason Lydia's got a confirmed kill count of tens or hundreds of straights this year yeah it's true yeah we don't want to yeah
0:03:38 Lydia: No one will ever know. I'm not disclosing my body count. That's what we're talking about, right?
0:03:46 Thomas: Like I hope so otherwise I
0:03:52 Lydia: It's been a busy month, busy Pride month.
0:03:52 Thomas: Don't know why I just fucked all those guys yeah yeah it could be both patreon .com look
0:04:04 Ad: [Ad break 1 — ad music]
0:04:04 Lydia: The first story I want to talk about is the idea that gay people just can't have June, apparently. There has been a coordinated effort across various Republican-led states to try and rename June, rebrand it, right? Right. Take it. Well, I guess not June itself. But the idea that June is Pride Month, that's a problem for these Republican governors and legislatures. And so they're rebranding it in the most ridiculous ways, too. So let me just share some of these things.
0:04:22 Thomas: Rename june oh okay sure okay my first thought was do they regret that they already gave the shortest possible month to Black people and like damn it uh we already gave a really short month away uh can there be two februaries yeah yeah there's there's no way we were getting a 31 day month like that's not let's let's be real like that is not
0:04:52 Lydia: Yeah. And June has 30. So, I mean, like, yeah, it's the second to fewest days. No, no way. No way. So all of these were declared in June and they all avoid explicitly saying we're taking the month back, of course. Right. But I think there's plenty in here. And then also some fun tweets we get from Sarah Huckabee Sanders. So Indiana and Tennessee declared June Nuclear Family Month. And the resolution defines it as celebrating families consisting of, quote, one husband, one wife and any biological adopted or fostered children.
0:05:26 Thomas: Happening that's
0:05:35 Lydia: This was adopted into law and signed earlier this year by Governor Bill Lee. Indiana followed suit. So that was in Tennessee. And then Indiana followed suite and did the same exact thing. So Nuclear Family Month is the official June celebration, I guess, if you live in those two states. In Alabama, Governor Kay Ivey proclaimed June, quote, strong families month and said that it was coinciding with Father's Day. Like the timing of the announcement was to coincide with Father'S Day. The proclamation describes fathers as, quote. The head of the household and says that homes led by a father and mother provide children with, quote the structure and discipline necessary to succeed throughout life.
0:05:34 Thomas: Awesome oh wow yeah that's why everybody from straight families is great now doing totally well
0:06:23 Lydia: Already, I'm just trying to imagine like parades surrounding these two things. And they suck. They're not fun. They are not going to be fun at all.
0:06:30 Thomas: Yeah no it's also just so pathetic the idea of like hey you know what needs a celebration the thing that everybody normally is like that has been the the, yeah, that's been like the norm for society.
0:06:39 Lydia: Yeah, that's happening constantly anyway, forever.
0:06:43 Thomas: It's like definitionally the one thing you don't need to have a month for you idiots.
0:06:49 Lydia: And then Utah and Arkansas are celebrating what they have called Fidelity Month. And so this is fidelity to faith, country, and family. And they don't specify what kind of family that is. Oklahoma, they have now tried to rebrand June as Life Month. Just life. Stupid.
0:07:07 Thomas: Life month. Yeah. All the other months are just death month. I'm going to be alive for this month. That was going to, yeah. Okay. I want to kill myself all the other ones.
0:07:16 Lydia: As I said, you know, none of these things explicitly say we have a problem with pride, of course. You know, like they're not going to say that in their messages, in their proclamations, in the resolutions tied to these rebrandings. But it's clear what's happening here. Like, we're not stupid. And Sarah Huckabee Sanders is, you Know, the governor of Arkansas, one of the states that celebrates now Fidelity Month, apparently. When she shared that they were going to be celebrating Fidelity month in Arkansas, she also shared a Daily Wire article headlined, quote, quote, another red state is counter -programming Pride Month. So we know what you're doing. Like, that's explicitly what's happening.
0:07:49 Thomas: Well, I don't even know why I was confused as to why you were saying they're kind of pretending yeah why I don't think
0:07:55 Lydia: Yeah, I don't think they're pretending. I think it's that plausible deniability, right? Like, so if anyone ever tried to call them out, I guess, yeah. Yeah. Yeah., perhaps. Well, you say that. Keep a pin in that, actually, because I think they're kind of playing both sides a little bit. And we'll get into that. Tennessee conservative activist, Lakey Derrick, who is responsible for co -authoring the Nuclear Family Month measure that was adopted in Indiana and Tennessee. They told the Associated Press directly that she explicitly said June to counter pride because she said it, quote, goes against American values. And later, quote. We're just reclaiming the culture.
0:08:01 Thomas: No but we've gotten way past that like I don't I don't think they care about that they like they're like no please notice us notice that we're doing this please okay lakey derrick how god
0:08:42 Lydia: The culture is predominantly predominantly straight, white, heteronormative, patriarchal, what are you doing? Reclaiming the culture. Yeah.
0:08:50 Thomas: It's so funny from hoomst just do your stupid straight activities with your dumb nuclear
0:09:00 Lydia: And I'm sorry, that would basically set it up in a way where it's like, okay, so you're saying that you're the counterculture and the culture is Pride Month. And so you're trying to reclaim it. In what world do you think that mainstream culture is pride month when we're talking about marginalized groups that are being stripped of rights and protections. And, you know, all of you guys say that they don't even exist. What are we doing? Yeah.
0:09:28 Thomas: Families imagine if they had a pride festival and nobody came to do a culture war about it. It would just be a fun time for people who want to be there.
0:09:38 Lydia: Joyful. Yeah.
0:09:41 Thomas: Like, why does it even affect you? Like, when do you come across it? That's the new thing is like, I actually do think that the straights are probably seeing a bunch of this. Like it used to be, I was kind of like, oh, what does it matter to you? Now I think I get it. It does matter because it's being shoved down your throat, not by gay people. By propagandists and I just we need to get a hold of that because it's just not happening
0:10:03 Lydia: A hundred percent. And I have a great example of that for later in this episode, too. Thank you for setting that up. Pin in that, too, we're just going to be putting pins everywhere so we can talk about those things more because you're 100 percent right. Obviously, this movement meant to reclaim the culture to reclaim
0:10:30 Thomas: Yeah you guys go straight to July
0:10:32 Lydia: June as part of the straight people's calendar because apparently like it's not part of their calendar anymore and they'd like it back
0:10:32 Thomas: If you're not gay you're in July now yeah no we just have to like be offset like a time zone yeah
0:10:33 Lydia: You have to hibernate during the entire month of June oh my gosh yeah and then reset come oh and then we just redo July or straight people just redo July, I guess.
0:10:46 Thomas: Well we can find whatever month is theirs and we'll skip that month yeah I say we because I just don't want to be a part of them I'm not gay but I'm not like, yeah, I might convert
0:10:49 Lydia: Oh, and that's OK. Interesting. Yeah, that's fair. Ally. Ally might be worth it.
0:10:59 Thomas: Just to not be a part of them. Yeah. Like, but I also don't want to suggest that like, it's something you can just convert, but I might make it happen just despite them. You know what I mean?
0:11:10 Lydia: Yeah.
0:11:10 Thomas: I don't wanna be on their team.
0:11:12 Lydia: So I mentioned the activist behind the nuclear family month. Would it surprise you that Fidelity Month also has a thinker behind it that helped orchestrate this month? And I don't think you'll guess this because we haven't talked about him in a while, but this is somebody that we've talked about before, not my arch nemesis, but someone else, an early nemeses of mine from when I was just kind of, you know, popping in every now and then on SIO, Robert P. George. Do you remember him?
0:11:31 Thomas: My cat could be. Oh, wow.
0:11:44 Lydia: Oh my God, of course you wouldn't.
0:11:46 Thomas: Absolutely not. That's also, it's the most generic name.
0:11:48 Lydia: Yeah. So Robert P. George is a Princeton law professor. And he is one of the like most premier conservative voices in law and policy see across the United States, he was a former board member of the Heritage Foundation. He actually stepped down because he didn't like that they weren't disavowing Nick Fuentes from a couple months ago. Like he really didn't like that.
0:12:14 Thomas: There's a line. Is too far for you, huh?
0:12:17 Lydia: Yeah, but he had the Witherspoon Institute marriage in the public good that we talked about when we were breaking all that down.
0:12:22 Thomas: Sly and the Family Stone.
0:12:25 Lydia: So he is actually the architect behind Fidelity Month, the Witherspoon Institute invented Fidelity Month, basically. And they created the measure that can then be given to state legislatures. And then the lawmakers don't have to do any work. They just take the ready -made measure, like the language. Yeah.
0:12:40 Thomas: Measure? Oh, as in like the length of the bill. Oh, okay. I was thinking like, oh, it's like a measure, like how not gay you are or something or like how many not affairs have you had?
0:12:52 Lydia: So they basically do all the work, do all the homework for lawmakers and then gift it to them so then they can submit it for free. Yeah.
0:12:59 Thomas: Using the term work very loosely.
0:13:01 Lydia: But he's a huge part of the right-wing think tank machinery up and down, you know, federal, state, local. His hands are everywhere, basically. And he told the National Catholic Register, he's very Catholic, back in 2023 that, quote, nobody gets a monopoly on a particular day or a particular month. Yeah.
0:13:19 Thomas: Yeah. No one thinks that.
0:13:22 Lydia: Plenty of other things are happening in June. It's not like all activities cease except for gay-related ones in June? Yeah.
0:13:27 Thomas: Like what do you think happens on like Thanksgiving? Does no one else do anything else in the whole world?
0:13:32 Lydia: Yeah.
0:13:32 Thomas: Like you're not allowed. Out it's just only I just so stupid oh
0:13:37 Lydia: Now, Fidelity Month, apparently, because it's a huge project of the Witherspoon Institute and Robert P. George, it has an advisory council. And I don't know exactly what that was. I guess folks that helped draft the language, I guess, were appointed to this council. And I'll give you another guest who's on that. Another person we've talked about a bit, Kristen Wagoner from Alliance Defending Freedom. Yep. So, you know, we just have like premier mirror people that are behind all of this.
0:13:59 Thomas: Yeah is she the fulsome one the very this very fulsom or is that what it was no toothsome no it was some was
0:14:08 Lydia: Yeah. Yes. Yes, yes. I think it was Winsome. Winsome. Winsome. Yeah, we got there.
0:14:12 Thomas: It fulsome winsome that's it yeah win winsome yeah that also seems wrong yeah is that right for real yeah probably
0:14:17 Lydia: Winsome Loosome. I think we made that joke back then. So I think that's what it is.
0:14:22 Thomas: Ah that sounds wrong it's Slight. Isn't it something slightly different than that?
0:14:27 Lydia: I don't know. Consult the transcripts.
0:14:27 Thomas: OK, well, anyway, it's the lady who had the weird words she kept saying over and over and over and
0:14:33 Lydia: Yeah. And Ben Carson appears on stage at Fidelity Month events. Josh Hawley. Oh, God. Well, he does it alongside Senator Josh Hawley, who sucks.
0:14:36 Thomas: I've come around to liking Ben Carson. I actually like him. He's such he's just nothing like he's so he's so nothing. I love it. It was like back when we did the America Fest and everybody was batshit insane. Saying. And then he was just doing like, Hey everybody.
0:14:57 Lydia: Ben Carson here.
0:14:57 Thomas: Yeah. Jesus. Conservatism. Remember when we were just kind of normal and it was, uh, it was nice. It was refreshing anyway,
0:15:06 Lydia: Yeah so we have Fidelity Month happening in Utah and Arkansas but an additional four states have also introduced it and it hasn't been adopted in those states I guess that was this year and there was actually a U .S. Senate resolution trying to put it on the federal calendar to get the Senate to take it up at a federal level. This is not going anywhere. They're going to keep trying to push this in a bunch of different states and cities and localities.
0:15:28 Thomas: Which sucks because these straight people until then they can't be out in the open. They can't, you know, it's like, they can't even, how are they supposed to live until we've given them their own month?
0:15:40 Lydia: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
0:15:40 Thomas: You know they're in hiding yeah
0:15:42 Lydia: I know. And Kevin Roberts, the president of the Heritage Foundation, was very clear about his position on this, that all the conservative recognitions to rebrand this month are welcome because Pride celebrations had, quote, gone so far as to make it difficult to celebrate traditional marriage.
0:15:58 Thomas: Oh my god so hard yeah god it's so difficult what could that possibly mean like I really want someone like I wish I could just like if you just locked him into like some sort of machine where hey no you have to answer the question you can't leave the doors are sealed you only have 10 minutes of oxygen left I'll let you out answer the the question of how this means you can't even celebrate your straight marriage what was the wording yeah tell me go give me give me the answer
0:15:59 Lydia: Freaking babies. Yeah, I know, mm -hmm, traditional marriage, yeah. Yeah.
0:16:32 Thomas: To what is it what happens to describe the process he died jesus
0:16:39 Lydia: Yeah. And so like when you think about the people who are crafting these things and sort of, you know, like Robert P. George is not really being inflammatory in his comments, right? Like Kristen Wagner is also not really Being inflammatory in her comments. This is why like lawyers, I think, can be so dangerous is a lot of them are quietly behind the scenes, just kind of crafting things that make everybody's lives worse. And if they can get them through. But senators don't necessarily have that same sort of filter. And Andy Ogles, Tennessee Republican representative, on June 2nd posted on X, his official congressional account on X. quote, homosexuality has no place in America. Happy Nuclear Family Month.
0:17:21 Lydia: And it actually was deleted by that evening because there was such intense backlash. And here's one of the things I want to talk about from before. And I'm really curious your thoughts, because there was a lot of backlash from Republicans about that.
0:17:21 Thomas: Putting
0:17:35 Lydia: AndI think some of them are putting on a show, but I don't I don' know. I don''t know.
0:17:35 Thomas: On a show what does that mean for
0:17:40 Lydia: Potentially their constituents. I don't know. And that's why I'm torn. I dont know if they actually mean it or if they're They're trying to save face. We're in midterms, right, if they're trying to help protect positions there. I don't know. So New York Republican Representative Mike Lawler responded on X. Homosexuality exists in America. In fact, Andy, you have family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and constituents who are gay and lesbian. It doesn't make them less than or somehow unworthy of being an American. And then he said that he also texted Ogles directly. They're friends, I guess. And he said Instead, and he had shared with reporters that he felt that Ogle's tweet was, quote, pretty clear that it was fucking stupid. George Santos, former Republican con man. Sorry, former republican congressman. I skipped over a word in my head. Yes, he's still Republican. I don't. Yeah. Nobody wants him. Yeah. Eternal con man, former congressman George Santos, openly gay. He responded to this and said that he, quote, never thought I'd hear a person I consider a friend say there is no place for me in this country simply because of who I chose to love. Yeah, I know. I know that's what I'm saying. That's what what I'm saying. Ted Cruz went to TMZ for his comment. I don't know why he went to TMZ,
0:17:44 Thomas: Who yeah yeah I could see that yeah Yeah.
0:18:12 Thomas: Send him a dick pic just to former Republican. Oh, OK. I was going to say, yeah, still. Yeah. Because I don't want him. I don't actually want him yet.
0:18:47 Thomas: Really? Really? You never thought that would happen. Oh, who could have seen this coming? What? Yeah.
0:19:00 Lydia: But he did. And maybe they reached out to him directly or something. But he said, quote, for all of recorded history, homosexuals have been part of humanity. And quote, the behavior of consenting adults is their business. Steve Scalise, the House majority leader, called the post, quote, inappropriate. And House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed displeasure. It's creepy right it's everything Mike Johnson does is creepy I yeah yeah
0:19:18 Thomas: I don't know why, but that was bad. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, there is no not creepy for Mike Johnson.
0:19:28 Lydia: So I mentioned ogles deleted or the tweet was deleted by that evening he blamed it on a staffer saying that yeah ogle
0:19:34 Thomas: Yeah, the deletion. Hey, my staffer deleted a perfectly good homophobic tweet.
0:19:39 Lydia: Said he was busy working on the farm at the time when the tweet went up and his phone started going
0:19:42 Thomas: Oh, shut up. Busy working on the farm.
0:19:45 Lydia: Crazy yeah quote working on the farm is from his statement
0:19:50 Thomas: So fucking dumb. God, these clowns.
0:19:53 Lydia: He said the post was quote stupid hurtful and a complete distraction and the employee had been
0:19:59 Thomas: We're all looking for the guy who did this. Okay, he gave us a hot ducks.
0:20:02 Lydia: Reprimanded yeah exactly reporters tried asking him directly whether he actually like you know personally agreed with the post like trying to find out like okay but do you believe this no
0:20:11 Thomas: He's like, apparently not. I don't, I thought I did, but what?
0:20:16 Lydia: He never really answered He just said, quote, you get to choose and quote, it's up to you. I don't know if he means it's Up to the Reporter if you think I believe this or not, or it's up to You as a person to be gay or not. I don' t know.
0:20:22 Thomas: You get to choose.
0:20:31 Lydia: And also then like insinuating that it's a choice or I guess directly saying that homosexuality is a choice. But yeah, weird. So those are the people who are celebrating these insane June rebrands. Again, Nuclear Family Month, Strong Families Month, Fidelity Month and Life Month. Instead of pride, because they are weak and scared little babies. While they are working on rebranding this, Tommy Tuberville just had some very strong, yeah, again, out of Alabama. So they're celebrating Strong Families Month. And he took a different approach. He didn't just say, like, happy Strong Families month. He posted, has corporate America not gotten the memo that in all capitals woke is dead the only thing we should be celebrating this month is our country's upcoming 250th birthday the radical left mob in all capitals has completely radicalized June for their woke agenda and then he says there's only in all capitals one flag that matters and last I checked yeah exactly and America's birthday or whatever is in July and not June. So why do we have to celebrate the upcoming birthday for the entire, like, should we have celebrated in May? In April?
0:21:00 Thomas: Hey you can't have a name like Tommy Tuberville and not be gay sorry you're gay I'm declaring you gay huh oh man what about Father's day what if you have a birthday I can't celebrate that either geez his wife is like it's our anniversary this month Jesus fucking christ that's a good point wait what the fuck I literally have never thought about that they've been talking about this stupid birthday what I didn't I just I wow my brain just assumed they would have done the math yeah I just you're totally right I remember July figuring pretty heavily into the mythology of our stupid
0:22:00 Lydia: Yes, for a long time. And it hasn't happened yet. It's July. It's you and calendars. Yeah. Yes. Yes, why are we talking about the birthday so much already? I don't care. Yeah, so apparently we can't celebrate anything at all, like you said, in June because we have to prepare for the upcoming birthday celebration in weeks from now.
0:22:21 Thomas: Country wow yeah what do you get the country that has fucking nothing anymore we're
0:22:35 Lydia: So yeah, God, oh my God, I know. But Pride still exists. Pride Month still exists and these people are ridiculous. And obviously there are gay people in all of those states and they've all taken the high road. I saw some quotes from different organizations, different pride organizations from states that have rebranded the month, I guess, but it's all a marketing thing. So I don't know how much that's actually going to carry. And they're all still celebrating pride and they're just focused on their events and their activities and supporting their communities. So, you know, suck it.
0:23:06 Lydia: It's Kay Ivey. I don't know. I'm just so mad about it. Like, it's so ridiculous. The rebranding and stuff, it's silly. It's ridiculous. But keep in mind, this is happening simultaneous to the Office of Management and Budget at the federal government releasing a regulation proposal, I guess, this month that would condition basically all federal funding on whether or not the group or the source that's trying to get the funding rejects, quote, gender ideology. It's 400 pages for this rule. It would apply to hospitals, universities, homeless shelters, state agencies. Anyone, if they try to recognize transgender gender people would lose federal funding. And because it's a regulation and
0:23:06 Thomas: Ruined okay yeah I can't recognize them I have to pretend I'm meeting them for the first time every time that's gonna be awkward but okay
0:23:53 Lydia: Because they're proposing this as a regulation rather than an executive order, it would be a lot harder to reverse. Yeah, that's concerning. I think something that we'll want to poke our heads in on and kind of see like, you know, the notice period and the public comment period and see how the winds are blowing there, because that could be really, really bad if it goes through.
0:24:19 Ad: [Ad break 2 — ad music]
0:24:19 Lydia: Now, I've talked where we would expect some of these shenanigans to be happening, right? Alabama, Utah, Arkansas. Unfortunately, we had a really, really disappointing moment during Pride Month in one of the least likely places for anti-LGBTQ behavior, San Francisco. Yeah, we got to talk about it. This was like a dagger to my heart. I grew up not like super into sports, but we did like field trips to baseball games as part of my school experience for whatever reason. And we did Oakland A's, I think, in seventh grade. And then we went to the Giants in eighth grade. And when I went to that game, I just had like such an amazing time. I became like a really, really big Giants fan, watched a lot of games. My birthday's at the end of October. And so like this was kind of a lot premiere Giants time too. So I got to watch the World Series and just a bunch of different things. And I remember I had a birthday party where I just had the World series like up on the TV, like during the party. And like I would come in and out of the room to check and see how things were going. So when I heard about this, I was just like so bummed. On June 12th, they had their annual Pride Night and they had special rainbow themed baseball caps for Pride Night that the team was wearing. And it was just the SF logo, but with, you know, the pride flag colors and players weren't required to wear them. Okay. Okay. But nearly the whole team did.
0:24:33 Thomas: Oh yeah yeah I know what you're gonna say yeah because you're the San Francisco team assholes
0:25:46 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah, almost the entire pitching team sucks. The starting pitcher Landon Ropp and JT Brubaker and Ryan Walker, those are relievers, they wore their pride caps, but they all wrote on it and modified it. So in silver marker next to the SF logo, they wrote Gen 9 -12 -16 -16. So Genesis chapter 9, verse 12 through 16. And then a fourth picture. So those were three pictures. And now we have a fourth picture who just didn't wear the rainbow cap at all. He just wore the standard, you know, black cap, orange SF logo. But the Genesis passage that they're all quoting is when after the flood, God says that a flood will never happen again and let this rainbow be a sign, the covenant to you all that I'll never do this again. And the
0:26:33 Thomas: Yeah and we stole their rainbow
0:26:39 Lydia: Players, yeah. And so the players are basically saying rainbow belongs to God, not to gay people.
0:26:45 Thomas: Well yeah I mean everything technically would belong to God then by that stupid logic it's more like the rainbow belongs to Christians as a symbol of their covenant or whatever.
0:26:56 Lydia: But there was some commentary I saw just even with that initial framing that they were like, well, that is not exactly what those verses are saying. It specifically is a covenant, quote, with every living creature of all flesh. So that's, yeah, that's incredibly inclusive without conditions, right? Like that is love for all flesh, all living creatures with flesh. I guess if you don't have flesh. And there's a significant portion of the LGBTQ population that identify as being religious so that's important to them too and they are part of this too so incredibly exclusionary that they did and they don't see anything wrong with it either which is yeah they're complete assholes after the game major league baseball issued a warning to the players they said that the writing on the caps violates uniform regulations that prohibits players from riding, attaching, or displaying any messages on apparel or equipment. And then conservative commentators took that as saying the league is going after these players for their religion.
0:27:12 Thomas: Even the gay ones. I love all flesh. God is really into flesh. Yeah. Cause everyone does.
0:27:43 Thomas: Of course not. They're just dicks and they don't care.
0:28:07 Lydia: They are being attacked because of their faith. And, you know, it's illegal to be Christian. You know, all of those kinds of talking points. Exactly. It's so frustrating. So instead of just letting them do their thing and scream into the void and be babies about this too, Major League Baseball decided they're going to issue another statement to try and clarify their intent.
0:28:13 Thomas: I've seen this movie before. Right?
0:28:28 Lydia: So they said that the warning had, you know, had nothing to do with the content of the message. They were trying to be very clear about that, that they have issued the same warning to players in the past for writing dad, happy Mother's Day, I love mom, other names on their caps for family members. Quote, we respect players right to free expression and that it just applies to any writing on any uniform by anyone for any reason. But it doesn't matter. Like you guys coming out and saying the second statement, the people who are going after you and saying that these people are being attacked for their faith, they're still going to be saying that like none of that matters. None of that is changing their mind. They have their talking point. They're going to run with it. J.D. Vance chimed in on this, too. He posted on X. Trump won. We don't have to do this anymore, is what he says.
0:29:13 Thomas: Love that. I love that they're just, yeah, just go ahead. Come out and say it.
0:29:14 Lydia: That's all he said, too, just about, you know, we don't have to do this anymore.
0:29:20 Lydia: And that was after the second statement happened, right? They're not going to stop. After J.D. Vance issued that statement, then Rob Schneider stepped up and said, hey, any player who does stuff like this, if you guys incur a fine, I'll pay it. Don't worry about it. Do whatever you want.
0:29:34 Thomas: They can also pay it dude they're freaking professional they have more money than you yeah
0:29:36 Lydia: Yeah. Rob Schneider. Money bags. Moneybags Rob Schneider. I don't think so. I guess if he gets It's like royalties on any like you can do it moment. Like what else is he doing? Not a lot. Also, he's divorced now and he probably has to pay her support.
0:29:49 Thomas: Probably oh man Oh yeah he probably lost uh lost quite a bit in that whole thing
0:29:56 Lydia: Hopefully. Senator Josh Hawley, again, we just mentioned him before in the previous discussion. He is threatening MLB's federal antitrust exemption that they're showing a pattern, in quotes, of discriminating against Christians and he would like to investigate them. Yeah.
0:30:09 Thomas: Huh oh yeah they sure are yeah get to the bottom of that one yeah it's been so much discrimination
0:30:16 Lydia: What I want to close out this piece with, though, is focusing on a beloved San Francisco Giants voice, which is Mike Krukow. He is a broadcaster for the Giants. He was a former pitcher. He's 74 years old, and he's been doing broadcasts for them for three decades, I think. His son, Wes, is openly gay, married. His husband, I think he is a performer on tour. I can't remember what show he's in right now. It's something with a San Francisco residency right now because they're together. But he spoke to the San Francisco Chronicle after all of this happened. And I want to read part of his statement here. I think that you have the right as a player to believe and say whatever you want, but you have to take a broader look at the city you're playing in. What makes San Francisco so great is the acceptance of others, ethnicities, opinions, cultures, and that extends to the gay community. I would just hope they would understand the demographic of San Francisco and respect people for who they are. What you do to your uniform, that has weight to it. You can offend people, and why would you do that? And then he went on to talk about his son, too. I'm so proud of him. I've seen gay life through my son's eyes. The culture in the community is so beautiful. And I just like thought that was really nice. My initial reaction with this was like, I want them off
0:31:31 Lydia: The team. I don't even watch baseball anymore. But like, if I had any say, if I had any power at all, I'd be like, you're out of here. You're fired.
0:31:31 Thomas: Elimination
0:31:40 Lydia: Like, I don' t know how that works. Yeah, exactly. I put on an umpire mask, literally walk up to them like in costume, put it in a way they understand. But I just was like, I hope that everybody just boos them all the time. I know I've spoken to some fans who plan on doing just that. I know I've read some pieces of people who don't plan on attending any more games, actually, while those players are there, or if the Giants don't issue a stronger statement, because I think a lot of fans were really disappointed by how like milquetoast that was. I've seen some folks who have been season ticket holders who do not intend on renewing after years and years and years. And these are some of these people are gay. Some of these people are straight doesn't really matter. Like it's really, really bothered a lot of people that are fans of this particular franchise, and that city. And again, yeah, the players don't seem to care because they get to be buddies with Rob Schneider. Like cool. Yeah, I guess.
0:31:40 Thomas: You're out of here strike three yeah yeah this will all blow over no one will care yeah yeah it sucks I mean there was a um sharks goalie I really liked a few years ago who was doing really well and then he had some dumb thing about pride some religious thing and then it was like ah well fuck you I can't I just like it's hard because now it's like, since everybody, truly everybody seemingly fucking sucks now, it's almost to the point where I try to ignore it a little bit because I just figure everyone's a piece of shit bigot now. And it's, like, well, if I can't watch anything that has a piece-of-shit bigot in it, then I don't get things anymore. So that's part of it.
0:33:14 Lydia: Yeah agreed.
0:33:14 Thomas: But it's still, there's a part of me that's ,like, I just have no, just truly have no respect for it. Like, it's just, like... I just fucking hate you now. It's just so miserable, and you're just a loser. You're just the fucking loser if you're that bent out of shape about it. It's so pathetic.
0:33:30 Lydia: But you know, no, I think a lot of it does matter about how the organization approaches it too. Because like individual players, they can have their own opinions, whatever. But what I'd like to see is like leadership and culture setting from the organization about what's acceptable and what's not. And you brought up the Sharks. Here's an example of an organization that does this amazingly. I shared this with you when this came out. There's a blog that tried to develop like a metric about how well the NHL teams do on celebrating pride for their pride nights that they put on. And you get zero points, right, if you have no pride, no pride night and things like that. But the San Jose Sharks are so incredible at celebrating this community that they broke the metric. They scored above what was possible. And so let me, yeah, let
0:34:20 Thomas: That's awesome. Instantly turned gay, all of them. They're just like, whoa, big rainbow, and then the whole team is gay.
0:34:26 Lydia: Me share some of this with you because I was like, I was so proud when I read this.
0:34:29 Thomas: I know. They're great on this. I've really enjoyed that part of them, oh,
0:34:32 Lydia: Yeah. Where do we even start with the San Jose Sharks pride night? As the Sharks are the newest darlings of hockey Twitter, there were high expectations both on social media and here at Offside News about how the organization was going to pull off Pride Night and what level of effort will be made. We were not disappointed. The San Jose Sharks actually broke our rating system. They commissioned a special logo from local queer tattoo artist Jazz Fuller for their specialty jersey. They changed their social media profiles to a picture of the design. The design and others were available on merch. They had activities set up. So there were booths on the concourse where fans and visitors could come chat with various 2SLGBTQ plus organizations. They could pick up merchandise and flags from those organizations. They had interactive experiences, including making Pride friendship bracelets. They had themed in-game content and storytelling related to Pride. They had a Pride game logo and jersey auction where money benefited the Tower Foundation, which is affiliated with the Pride Center at San Jose State University. They had Game Day Pride graphics through social media that it was a celebration, you know, on the ice, off the ice digitally everywhere and that they were proud to host and organize it. They had rainbow colors on the lineup, the game announcement, Tale of the Tide, final stat sheet. The fans all came out decked out in rainbows. They all made posters like tons of posters. It was just like a beautiful, joyous celebration. And then they had incredible player participation. So nearly the entire team wore Pride tape at some point during warm-ups. And the people who did not participate in that, they did call them out, Nick Leddy and the Russian players.
0:36:11 Thomas: Yeah. Nick Leddy. When was, wait, is this older, or is this, okay, okay.
0:36:16 Lydia: Sorry, the game was April 2nd when they did their Pride night. Even though Askarov, he's a Russian, didn't have Pride tape and stuff, he was tapping the glass to acknowledge people with the Pride posters and throwing pucks to people with pride posters.
0:36:30 Thomas: Yeah that's good at least yeah
0:36:30 Lydia: So like still trying to demonstrate community and allyship in that way. And then they all had like kind and inclusive comments when they were talking to reporters about it. Klingberg said, quote, it is a good thing that we as athletes and our platform that we have can make a difference and help other people. Goli Nadelkovich said, you just want everybody to feel comfortable in their own skin, right? Be able to walk through the door and feel like, hey, I'm going to a hockey game and I don't have to worry about anything else. Sometimes we lose sight. We're just all human beings. And you can treat each individual as a human being. But what broke the system was that it's not just Pride Night where the San Jose Sharks show up for this community. They regularly participate in local pride celebrations. So they're probably busy. They're probably real busy this month participating in things like that. A little bit earlier in the season, they had an annual pride scrimmage where they have the front office staff. Did we talk about on the show, though?
0:37:23 Thomas: Yeah I talked about this yeah yeah I talked with the us the usa women's hockey and all that
0:37:28 Lydia: Oh, yeah, yeah. That's right. Right. Right. So when they did that, the pride scrimmage with Team Trans Ice Hockey, they just broke the system, just completely broke it. So I think it's just incredible. That's how you show up, you know, and I think that that is it's not just from the players. It's what the organization expects, like the players aren't the ones organizing those things.
0:37:47 Thomas: Yeah look if we're just gonna do episodes where we talk about the sharks you're not gonna like it so that's all I'll ever
0:37:59 Ad: [Ad break 3 — ad music]
0:37:59 Lydia: All of this stuff continues to fester because of stuff that we talk about a lot on the show, which is that right wing outrage machine. And so I want to close us out talking about an example there and some of the claims that they make and see what you have to say. Now, important context before we get into this specific video that we're going to take a look at. Media Matters recently published a review that they did of Fox News's coverage of James Tallarico, who is the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate out in Texas. And they had, looking at early March through mid -June, there were 136 Fox segments about Tallarico. That's a lot. And approximately two -thirds of them, so at least 93 segments, yeah, used anti -LGBTQ framing to attack him. They didn't talk about his policy. They didn't talk about his record in the Texas legislature, just basically calling him gay.
0:38:27 Thomas: Do oh god yeah we're literal hate crimes yeah it's been incredible oh no I don't care yep
0:38:55 Lydia: And not just that, though.
0:38:56 Thomas: Literally just gay that's their whole policy agenda now They're just saying, gay, gay. Good job. Cool. You're the fucking adults who run the world. And that's your campaign message. Fuckers, gay! Fuck you.
0:39:10 Lydia: Beyond that, though, just like these really awful things. So Jesse Waters, one of the things that he said, he showed a picture of Tallarico eating a turkey leg and said that Democrats were, quote, posting pictures of him swallowing large sticks of meat and that Tallarico is getting his hands on whatever meat he can. What are we doing? Stephen Miller came on May 28th on Jesse Waters show and said Tallariko, quote. The first transgender Senate candidate who's clearly transitioning into a female.
0:39:43 Lydia: No correction from Jesse Waters about that. Just like straight up lied about who James Tallarico is. They think he is this radical extremist because of, in particular, three things that they like to write.
0:39:56 Thomas: I mean, they don't. They're doing their shtick. Yeah.
0:39:58 Lydia: Well, exactly. Exactly. They're doing the shtick. But we're going to kind of see it in play in this video. So I want to make sure we talk about this. Not about James Talllarico specifically, but the method, the approach. And so So one was from a hearing in 2021 where he said that modern science recognizes more than two biological sexes. Sex is a spectrum and oftentimes can be very ambiguous. Another time, a floor speech where he says God is non -binary.
0:40:21 Thomas: I mean. Yeah.
0:40:21 Lydia: And then a third time when he vocally supported the protection of trans kids in schools and health care. Molly Hemingway from The Federalist said his views, quote, would be difficult to elect in San Francisco. What? No, they wouldn't. Crazy.
0:40:39 Thomas: Oh, boy. Good luck.
0:40:41 Lydia: Crazy, they can seize on these tiny little nuggets and twist it and then connect it to something that's not even related and make you think something else like if you're a viewer of this and you're susceptible to this so why don't we play this video and kind of see a little bit more about how they react to pride month
0:40:58 Clip: Pride Month started just days ago, and the way the left is throwing the rainbow around is just bizarre. In Boston, people gathered in front of their city hall and sang what they're calling Pride Month carols while raising the LGBTQIA plus flag.
0:41:11 Thomas: Who cares? Why would you care? Yeah. How is this affecting you? Hey, KLAI. How is this affecting you?
0:41:14 Lydia: Yeah they sound great yeah
0:41:26 Clip: And in D.C., Mayor Bowser made this declaration.
0:41:26 Thomas: Oh, that's nice. I like that.
0:41:30 Clip: As I like to say, we're celebrating Pride Month in the gayest city in the world. And in New York City, this happened inside of City Hall.
0:41:46 Thomas: There's some gay people dancing, I guess.
0:41:49 Lydia: Doing like drag club sort of dancing
0:41:56 Thomas: Who cares? How is it affecting you?
0:42:00 Clip: There's a lot more important matters that need to be addressed.
0:42:02 Lydia: That are being addressed.
0:42:02 Clip: And the left-wing media did a segment with same-sex salsa dancing.
0:42:05 Thomas: Shut up.
0:42:11 Clip: That was an amazing performance by Pride Salsa helping us kick off Pride Month. And with all of that, what's happened to our kids during Pride Month is totally unacceptable.
0:42:24 Thomas: They're all gay. Yeah.
0:42:25 Clip: Now, our children are being inundated with sexual messaging. The popular children's television show, Peppa Pig, posted this pride message on social media.
0:42:32 Thomas: Showed graphic gay porn.
0:42:34 Clip: For the record, that show is for ages 2 to 5 years old.
0:42:36 Thomas: Full penetration.
0:42:38 Clip: And at a, quote, Family Equality Day in New Orleans.
0:42:40 Thomas: Sorry.
0:42:41 Lydia: Yeah. Now go ahead and pause that.
0:42:41 Thomas: What was that actually? OK, hold on. Sorry. Sorry, I thought she was going to say like something bad, but it's just, it just is a rainbow that says happy pride.
0:42:48 Lydia: Nope. It's just an image. So yeah. So yeah, the post actually said, happy pride month to all our friends. We're celebrating the joy of being yourself and the many wonderful families and friendships that make our world special. Yep.
0:43:00 Thomas: What are you talking? Hold on. How'd she say that again? Guys, what's happening to our kids?
0:43:04 Clip: And with all of that, what's happened to our kids during Pride Month is totally unacceptable. Now, our children are being inundated with sexual messaging.
0:43:12 Thomas: Sexual messaging.
0:43:12 Clip: The popular child's television shows, Peppa Pig, posted the pride message social media. For the record, that show is for ages two to five years old. Now to quote Family
0:43:18 Thomas: There's nothing. What are you talking about?
0:43:23 Lydia: Yeah.
0:43:25 Thomas: There's nothing. Yeah.
0:43:25 Lydia: So it doesn't say what the post says. It just shows the picture and then says that sexual messaging. So then if you're a viewer and you're not paying attention, you can just think that maybe that's what the post says that the post indicates something sexual.
0:43:36 Thomas: Did you do the wrong graphic graphics department? Like, I don't even understand. Were they expecting like, oh no, don't worry. We'll have something by the time you go to air and then she's like yeah they did this reminder this is for ages two to five oh
0:43:52 Lydia: Right well and that's the other point I wanted to make too is like it's ages two to five. Two year olds aren't reading. Three year olds are reading like what is the danger to kids here. They're going to see a rainbow and a character that they like Peppa Pig. That's it. What even are they being indoctrinated of like nothing's happening there. OK, keep playing it.
0:44:12 Thomas: Sorry yeah I was so blown away by
0:44:15 Clip: Equality Day in New Orleans, drag queens perform in front of little kids and one drag queen is insisting that children need to be exposed to this type of sexualized behavior. It's so much negativity in the world going on right now when it comes to the acronym LGBTQIA, right? Children need to hear that encouragement. Children need to care that they matter. Children need to hear that everything in their life isn't negative and it's just an opportunity to push them to be better adults and push them to be more inclusive of everything that goes on around them I mean look at the age of those kids it's stunning what is happening someone tell me
0:44:27 Thomas: That oh god sexualized behavior everything yeah what yeah The message was like yeah they need to um be told that they belong
0:44:51 Lydia: What happened? Yeah, they need to know that people love them for exactly who they are.
0:45:00 Thomas: Yeah oh god you can't tell them that yeah
0:45:04 Lydia: It's crazy. Like for people to interpret that as sexual is concerning. It's really weird. Yeah.
0:45:10 Thomas: That is really weird. I'm not sure what would be not sexual then, I guess. Kayla, you're being too sexual right now.
0:45:16 Clip: What would a kid even understand about these issues at that age do we think kids understand
0:45:19 Thomas: Yeah. Maybe don't be a piece of shit.
0:45:21 Clip: This when the budget was released I was shocked to find out that prime minister carney is cutting adding $7 billion between Indigenous Services Canada and Crown Indigenous Relations. They provided $0 to deal with the ongoing genocide of MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+. Joining me now, Fox News contributors Kaylee McGee-White and Paul Morrow, both of them are here. I mean, Kaylee, I'm a mother and I see little kids and drag queens and I just imagine the kinds of things I would have to tell my child and explain.
0:45:27 Lydia: Yeah, it's coming back.
0:45:57 Clip: Yeah, and to be clear, some of the things that you just showed are far more sanitized than what we've traditionally seen at some of these Pride celebration events.
0:46:03 Thomas: Yeah. To be clear, the things you showed are nothing.
0:46:04 Clip: Some of them are extremely sexually explicit and very graphic, and yes, children are almost
0:46:07 Lydia: Yeah OK, pause there. So they say, hey, point of clarification, what you showed like that's tape because nothing happened. But let me tell you, There are these other things that happen that are terrible and sexual and kids are being abused in all these ways and indoctrinated in all these ways. But I'm not going to tell you anything about them. I'm not going to say where any of them happen. I am not going to show you any evidence ever, ever.
0:46:25 Thomas: What are they? Yeah. Yeah. They super duper exist, though.
0:46:34 Lydia: Crazy. The viewer is then left to tie what they just saw to what the event actually was and then interpret that as part of this grander scheme of, you know, trying to sexualize children. Keep going, please. No.
0:46:50 Clip: The problem with Pride Month is that, you know, the left likes to claim that it's just about tolerance, it's just about acceptance, except over the past several years in particular, it's become about the exact opposite. It's become a mandatory celebration in government buildings, in every single cultural institution, by every single corporation, and Americans are really fed up with it, especially when it's being pushed onto young and impressionable children. I think about even the kids' shows. There's a reason my son is not going to ever watch any of the cultural mainstream television shows geared towards children these days. He's going to watch The Little House on the Prairie and maybe Sponge
0:47:23 Thomas: Oh, my God. SpongeBob is a fantastically gay show. Yeah, I love it. SpongeBob rules.
0:47:24 Clip: Bob if he's lucky, but that's about it. Well, number one on Netflix is David, which I'm so excited about. My kids are single-handedly responsible for that. A Christian film, which is good Paul, you know what do you think when you see city hall these dances it's nuts I actually like that because we can quarantine some of those people in there and that way they're not running around on the streets of my town look there's nothing wrong with the whole gay thing you're an adult you're a consenting adult we're way past that but the idea that this is something to aspire to as children is what's really insidious they know what they're doing as the Jesuits used to say give me the child till seven I have them for life they're starting this indoctrination as
0:47:31 Lydia: Spongebob is so queer coded. It's so queer coated. Yeah.
0:47:47 Thomas: You are? Okay. That is funny, too. Why did they say that?
0:47:58 Clip: Early as possible. And there is an even more insidious message that's embedded in it. And
0:48:01 Thomas: It's a weird, weird thing to say. As these religious people said, give me your children and I'll brainwash them. Wow, that's weird for Fox News. Is that a religion they don't like or something?
0:48:06 Lydia: Yeah, nope.
0:48:13 Thomas: Thing, I don't jesuits, I mean, I can't remember but it's pretty funny to be like yeah they're doing what like you know christians do
0:48:19 Clip: It's the following. It isn't about what you achieve in life, what you do, what you aspire to in terms of bettering yourself, moving forward, achievements in school, education, your job, your family, that kind of stuff. It is your identity is enough. That's it. Assume an identity that somehow or other gives you a superior place in our hierarchy. And that's enough for life. And if you
0:48:32 Thomas: Fuck all that That's right
0:48:41 Lydia: Nobody's saying that.
0:48:43 Thomas: I'm saying that I think he's right that's all we care about now all you have to do is assume an identity and it's yeah we make you president I don'T know yeah I DON'T know
0:48:55 Clip: That somehow or other gives you a superior place in our hierarchy and that's enough for life and if you don't succeed under that identity let's say it's trans it's society's fault and that is why you get millions going to these special interest pressure groups that are defined by slivers of demography you inculcate that into kids they grow up expecting all of that and we all know there's a word for that and it's Marxism yeah that's right and then you move over to more
0:49:15 Thomas: God yeah unlike apac or Fucking every single republican conservative christian
0:49:25 Clip: More wokeism that's happening, where there is a push in New York to change mother to
0:49:26 Lydia: All Right. Well, you missed that. The end of his piece.
0:49:28 Thomas: Group oh
0:49:29 Clip: Expecting special interest pressure groups that are defined by slivers of demography. You inculcate that into kids. They grow up expecting all of that. And we all know there's a word for that, and it's Marxism. Yeah, that's right. And then you move over to more woke that's happened, where they're expecting more woke. And there's a push to change mother to gestating parent in a rewrite.
0:49:44 Lydia: Piece.
0:49:45 Thomas: Sorry sure
0:49:52 Lydia: Yeah, very, very quick debunk on that element. It's legislation that has gone forward to correct for issues that exist in statute that affect adopted kids and adopted families, where all the lawyers are like, this is necessary to make this work with the structures that we have now to protect those families. So we have to make that change. End of story. That's it. But you read the New York Post and it's all about like the woke are coming for the family now as well. So stupid. The idea that he calls this Marxism is so funny because it's like, no, it's not. That's not what that is. You're just trying to say like the boogeyman, you know, words and stuff
0:50:05 Thomas: Isn't oh really yeah doy yeah
0:50:37 Lydia: For soundbites or to scare people. And very, very clearly start your paragraph basically by being like, there's nothing wrong with being gay. Being gay is fine, right? So now you feel like a safe person for someone who's gay.
0:50:46 Thomas: I for one believed him uh
0:50:51 Lydia: And the idea that like your identity is not enough, like you, I don't know if he realizes what he's saying there or if he's just caught up in the word identity and he truly thinks that you get different things based off of an identity. He says specifically, right, he says a superior your place in our hierarchy based off of your identity.
0:51:12 Lydia: And that's not what happens. But just you being you is enough. That is enough to live. I mean, what are we doing here? Yeah.
0:51:19 Thomas: Yeah it's also a bit of a weird thing to talk about our hierarchy like wait do we have a hierarchy yeah yeah
0:51:25 Lydia: Yeah. Cool. Great. Love that. And the other thing, too, is affirming that identity. Research is so clear that when you affirm identity for marginalized communities, they have better mental health outcomes. They have lower rates of depression. They have lower rates of suicidality. They have stronger academic performance in schools, not weaker. And so those are all positive things that you just get to not think about, I guess. Yeah, but gay, though, exactly. And also, affirming somebody's identity does not necessarily mean that you have to say, and don't worry about achieving anything. I feel like you and I as parents, we would affirm front of our kids' identity, whatever that may be, in whatever way that may be. And also still, like, it's really good if you work hard. It's really good, you know, to finish your homework. It is really good to do all these other things. They are not mutually exclusive.
0:51:48 Thomas: But they're gay though No, I so sorry when you haven't been looking I've been telling him just be gay you don't have to do anything else as long as you're
0:52:22 Lydia: What I learned from this segment and also the Media Matters review of the Fox News segments for Tallarico is that any opportunity that they can get, and I won't say just specifically Fox News because I think this is obviously happening across right -wing media that they frame LGBTQ identity as inherently sexual that is sex it is always sex when we're talking about that I watched actually a quote debate between Michael Knowles and a british gay man on piers morgan and michael knowles does this too where he can only talk about gay people as it relates to sex and the person that he was talking to was like this is really weird like do you have the same situation with like straight couples he's like you look at Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse and you're like all you can think about is them having sex like that's really strange and he's like well no because they're mice he's like okay that's still really weird yeah
0:52:48 Thomas: Gay yeah yeah okay so that means we can have gay mice
0:53:19 Lydia: Wait a second
0:53:19 Thomas: Then hold on we're getting somewhere good. This is negotiation. What other animals are we allowed to make gay?
0:53:26 Lydia: If you start with framing just their identity as inherently sexual then now anytime you connect kids to it now it's inappropriate like the identity itself then is inappropriate for kids because you have created this connection in your mind that it's all about sex. It's so depressing. All these efforts to just be inclusive and affirming get twisted in these really weird, gross, immature ways by the right. And I'm just so tired of it. I'm so tired. And I am sure all the people who have been fighting a hell of a lot longer are real tired. So, this has been a long, long, long, Long, Long fight and you'd hope that it'd be done by now but apparently not and they're just feeling even more emboldened, I guess, recently with the Trump win. So, anyway, happy Pride. Get out there. Shake your butt.
0:54:25 Thomas: Go be gay, everyone. It's all that matters. You win all the life points if you're gay. Just like my mentor and idol Karl Marx says.
0:54:35 Lydia: There you go.
0:54:37 Thomas: And my gay lover, Karl Marx. I'm going to kill myself all the other months. What do you get the country that has fucking nothing anymore? Strike three.
0:55:13 Lydia: Who have been subscribers, seasoned subscribers for a long time. That subscriber, that's the theater person, and uh season ticket holders yeah
0:55:17 Thomas: Subscribers? Just season ticket holders? Is that what you're trying to say? Oh, okay. Just be gay. You don't have to do anything else. As long as you're gay.
0:55:33 Thomas: What other animals are we allowed to make gay?
0:55:38 Lydia: Happy pride get out there shake your butt
