Why did I just hear THAT horrible ad on your show?

If you’re reading this, you probably just heard something godawful in an advertisement on one of our shows. Sorry about that! We don’t choose the ads you hear. The automated ad system gives us very little control: we can turn categories like “politics” on or off, and that’s about it. This, combined with an ever more crowded market with lower and lower margins, means we’re basically forced to accept whatever we can get. The ads are dynamically inserted into our shows without any input or even review by us. That’s why, every so often, you might hear an ad for something truly awful, like ICE recruitment.

So yes, that totally sucks. BUT! The way we see it, it’s actually kinda great… Here’s why. If some awful fascist advertises some awful fascism on our show, we are 100% sure he (and it’s always a he) will have a 0.00% success rate on those ads. WHICH MEANS he is helping to fund the show that you know and love, and in the process, completely wasting his ad dollars. Any ad money spent on us is ad money he can’t spend somewhere else where he might actually find the kind of aspiring fascists he’s looking for. So honestly… it’s kinda the best possible outcome?
