0:00:00 Eli: Welcome to Dear Old Dads, the podcast that's gonna be on break for a little bit, how do you like that?, right up at the top, you
0:00:07 Thomas: I don't, I don't, I don't like it, if you're asking me, I'm not a huge fan, boo,
0:00:10 Eli: Just wanted a, just a hard cut off, what if that was the end of the episode?, we just stopped, that was, the last thing people heard from us, so, hi, everybody, update for y'all who are not on Facebook, or in the groups, or, you know, You know, following along in the various ways that Tom has been able to communicate, Tom's had some complications since his back surgery. Some of them are pretty serious and continuing to do this show without him was just feeling more and more grotesque.
0:00:47 Eli: Like it just it felt I mean, look, this I know. No. Right. When I say not in the best taste, you know, it it means something.
0:00:39 Thomas: Yeah. Wow, that's coming from Eli., here, And we, actually, we're planning on, kind of, doing another voice memo, a SOAD, Tom had recorded a few of those, and it was great, it I was cool, because the first one was so depressing, you'd want to kill yourself and then and then the second one and then he sent that same second one again, I don't know if he meant to or not, uh, and then all of a sudden, like, fucking Chernobyl, the guys like, you have that thing where they're totally fine, remember that eerie scene, uh, was fine, and he sent a voice memo that was news, one kind was feeling positive about, I couldn't believe it, I was like, dude, oh my god, this is so much, this is amazing, like you're feeling better, he was, he could literally measure how well he was doing in degrees incline, he was allowed to be the poor guy was had to be flat on his back, like flat on your back, not just like, oh, get some rest, like Yeah, like, you can't move because of the way the infection was, like he was not allowed to move for 48 hours, I want to say
0:01:41 Eli: Hmm. Yeah. On a surgery site. Longer.
0:01:57 Thomas: Yeah, and he eventually was laying up and then it was, you know, it was bad and then some fucker like him again. Like poor Tom, this guy, this kid was part of trying to move him to a better bed because he was on like, he was actually on a bed that was too soft, which is so dumb. But I guess because of the, he wanted something harder because like he's literally having to lay on his surgical site. So he didn't want it to like sink in and, you know, that kind of thing. So anyway, it was a super positive message that we last got. And then a few days went by and you, I was feeling like, this, we'll have a nice Tom arc, we'll be good, he'll be out of here, uh, and Dann, things took a bad turn and, uh, yeah, so it kind of made it so I just, I don't really want to play the other, the messages, maybe someday, don't, still there but
0:01:58 Eli: Longer yeah.
0:02:45 Eli: Yeah. When Tom comes back, if we want to do a fucking retrospective, um,
0:02:45 Thomas: Yeah, We So just to give the quick timeline, his first surgeon tried to kill him, we're looking into what we're going to do about that, uh, don't know if he fucking dropped his gum in his incision or something, but he got a very bad infection, and then it was like, oh, I'm talking to an infection guy who's like, yeah, your surgeon tried to kill you, and that's the, but here, but good news, we've got modern medicine, I thought, that's kind of what I was thinking, and so the infection was going well and he was doing better, and then the last thing that has left us in this position is, um, infection, uh, into his bones, in his spine, in addition to his blood. Oh man, well,
0:03:22 Eli: Yeah know when Tom was gone we We continued to do the show because, you know, people have medical events in their life and we wanted him to be able to come back whenever he was ready. But as his medical needs have become more serious, as what's happening has become more serious, it just feels odd to continue to ignore it. It feels odd to continue to try and do a comedy show without him.
0:03:51 Thomas: And other thing is, uh, of us on the show, uh, this is our living, so so it's put us in a really shitty position, like, a weird job, you know, like there aren't a lot of other, even Tom's job as a head of a, I want to say black ops murder corporation, like Black Water.
0:04:06 Eli: Yeah. Black Caps murder.
0:04:07 Thomas: I know something you know, one of the ones that was like a contractor in the war, no, I know, real estate something, yeah, Evil Incorporated, even his job there is like, yeah, Sure, man, here's a bunch of a sick time or whatever, we, we, a heartless corporation will have your back, but podcasting, you know, it's like, okay, well, we have to just keep doing it, otherwise we don't have money to live, um, then weirdly, who would come to rescue us but stupid fucking Patreon and their dumb, I'm fucking to
0:04:07 Eli: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, poor people, housing, burndowner. Yeah, yeah, cork.
0:04:36 Eli: Patreon, a company that has single-handedly attempted to destroy our career in all moments except for when they established it, right?
0:04:42 Thomas: Kill us. Yeah. Yeah.
0:04:48 Eli: It's like if your mom gave birth to you and then she pulled out a hunting rifle and just committed
0:04:54 Thomas: And we did most dangerous game the rest of your life. That's a good way to put it. It was the first thing they did. A plus everything after.
0:04:54 Eli: Herself, yes, for the rest of your life. Yeah, not so good. So they switch us over to monthly. We've talked about this before. You pledge, it will remain the same. Nothing is changing about the amount of money that you give us, but will no longer just get paid when we make a thing, which means that we can actually take a break from this show without having Tom come back from his sick leave and saying like, "Ah, hey buddy, I'm so sorry. It was tough to do the show without you, so we didn't, didn't do it. I hope you don't mind that we took a big hit to your, you have all those medical bills. I'm sure you don't need, you know, any extra income right now.
0:05:32 Thomas: Yeah. We still are really attempting to make sure that the same amount of money goes into Tom's account while he's fighting his bones.
0:05:43 Eli: On that note, and, and because, uh, the bad fortune of Patreon has enabled that we are going to put the show on a little bit of a hiatus, um, the time being while we let Tom heal, uh. Hopefully come back better than ever with a spine that works and is free of blood infections. And hopefully by the time you hear the next episode of this show, it will be a Tomtacular where he can walk us through this entire medical debacle. And he's riding on a palanquin made of gold that he won in his lawsuit against. Uh, it appears every medical practitioner he came into contact with, uh, we want that obviously, you know, but
0:06:21 Thomas: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Do They do. Class action suits, the other way where it's like it's one guy against all the class of all doctors that fucked Tom he, so yeah. Yeah, we are caught in this thing where it's like, the show without Tom, it's bummer. Miss him terribly. I don't know. I won't speak for Eli, but I miss him a lot. I, we're going to take this Patreon allowed break, this weirdly timed miracle of Patreon mandating us to monthly Align break. And we, we are hoping that within the month, actually, if he's better within this month, we will certainly come back, uh, the minute he's better.
He's still needing more time to recover, then we're going to take a look at what we can do. This gives us time to kind of regroup and figure out what, to do in a world where Tom's got a longer recovery. That is a world that's possible just, to say it could could be a longer, it could be a longer thing. So we take the time, regroup, figure out what going to look like. Maybe, the fucking ghost in his blood will get better and he can be back right away.
0:06:27 Eli: Just one guy. Yeah. Whole, all doctors ever. Yeah, exactly.
0:07:30 Eli: Maybe you're going to get an episode tomorrow. We do not know.
0:07:32 Thomas: Knows? Yeah. Wouldn't put it past Tom. That guy, he just takes on everything. You know? To fight his own bones and blood.
0:07:37 Eli: Yeah Yeah, people's bones and blood as well.
0:07:42 Thomas: Yeah. That's the situation. We're going to go on a bit of a break and we are really hopeful that Tom will be back, relatively you soon. Play it by ear. If not, we're going we're gonna see what we can do because yeah, we are going to see what can do.
0:07:57 Eli: Right, Thomas, before we go. Thomas. Hey, Travis, before we go. You hear about the fire at the circus last night?
0:08:03 Thomas: Uh-huh. Didn't hear about the fire at the circus.
0:08:09 Eli: Was pretty intense.
0:08:14 Thomas: Boy.
