WTW119: USA Hockey Shows That the Bar for Men Continues to Reside in Hell
We've got so much to say on this one that it's a WT-DOUBLE episode! (tm). After the USA men's hockey team won the gold, not only was Kash Patel in the locker room celebrating with them, but he also got Trump on the phone. Trump made an incredibly sexist joke and the men laughed. After they received some backlash, we wanted to take a look at how they responded and see if ANY of them could muster the SLIGHTEST bit of introspection and, dare we say it, maybe even contrition?

0:00:42 Thomas: Hello and welcome to Where There's Woke. I'm Thomas. That's Lydia. How you doing?
0:00:46 Lydia: Mm, I'm doing okay.
0:00:49 Thomas: Uh-oh. Only okay.
0:00:50 Lydia: Well, the stuff today has me a little peeved. A little peeves off. Yeah.
0:00:53 Thomas: Oh yeah? Hmm. But I thought it was all better.
0:00:57 Lydia: Yes, everything's fixed. No, no, I, I it's it's a tough time to be an American. I mean, for a lot of reasons, but especially when the Olympics were happening, you know, fair.
0:01:10 Thomas: It's a tougher time to be everyone else we're inflicting stuff on and bombing, just want to say. Not to knock on you, but it it sucks to be caring a person who's stuck in a country that's doing horrible things to people. It's not, it's not fun, not fun.
0:01:22 Lydia: Yeah, yeah. Not a fan.
0:01:24 Thomas: We're going to talk about the Olympics, Olympic hockey. Don't worry. It'S not just a hockey episode. I will try not to just have it be a hockey episode, but, yeah, um, think by now people have probably heard tons of a discourse on this and don't worry, we're not just doing like the thing you've already heard everywhere. I really want to talk about this. I just think nobody gets it. It feels like to me.
0:01:30 Lydia: You say yeah
0:01:45 Thomas: We're going to see Lydia's, tried to track down if anybody gets it. So far it was a no for me, but who knows? Maybe someone got it.
0:01:45 Lydia: I got a couple almost ones Yeah, yeah, we'll see, we'll see what you think.
0:01:52 Thomas: Okay. I'm I'm excited to talk about it. I am going to put people through gushing about how fucking incredible the U.S. women's team was in the Olympics historical, this is, this is not wokest bullshit, like they were, they were amazing, like objectively maybe, maybe the best performance of any sport thing ever. Like it's the level of dominance was incredible.
0:02:01 Lydia: My God. Amazing.
0:02:17 Lydia: Well, let's save it. Let's
0:02:18 Thomas: Yeah.
0:02:18 Lydia: Save it.
0:02:19 Thomas: So I'm going to, I'm gonna subject people and you to a little bit of that, but then we got to talk about the politics of, of this.
0:02:19 Lydia: Let's go to the break. Oh I can't wait. Please subject me to it.
0:02:27 Thomas: Please not on air, honey. We got it.
0:02:31 Thomas: I'm excited to talk about it. So yeah, why don't we take a break? Avoid the ads at patreon.com/wherethereswoke, support the show, support stuff like this. Um, you know, more important than ever, support the little guys, the little, the little folks, you know that aren't media conglomerates, you know, pretty soon it's just one company, he's gonna own everything that's not us, every
0:02:42 Lydia: We're just little babies. Yeah. Apparently, it's all gonna gonna be Paramount Skydance.
0:02:52 Thomas: Yeah, Paramount Skydance slash The Daily slash, you know, whatever else, podcast, Joe Rogan, Paramount, Skydance, Joe Rogan, yeah, it's gonna be something like that, but not us, we'll be here just surviving on the kindness of some amazing folks on Patreon on.
0:02:58 Lydia: iHeartRadio, our, little indie hearts.
0:03:07 Thomas: So thanks so much. We'll take a break and we'll get to it.
0:03:14 Thomas: All right. Where do you want to start? Could talk I about the hockey team forever, but I don't know how you want to organize this thing.
0:03:18 Lydia: Well you know timeline order like, let's talk about the women's team, let's talk about how amazing they are, let's talk about their win, uh, let's get into that.
0:03:23 Thomas: Yeah. No. Okay. If we're going to talk about that, I'm going to talk about it.
0:03:29 Lydia: Well, no, let's get into it, let's get into it.
0:03:31 Thomas: So I have been looking forward to the Olympics for hockey for a long time, for one, definitely the men's, because the NHL was back in it. The NHL hasn't been in it for a while, it was 2010, 2014, and then they weren't in it for '18 and '22, and it just sucks, like, the difference as a rabid hockey fan that I am, the difference between the best of the best being in it and then just, like, well there's some of the best around the world, and then we get to have a bunch of, like, amateur players that don't get me wrong, are still good, but boy, it's a bummer, like, not getting to see the best on best, it's just a bumner, the difference between that and then seeing Team Canada with my beautiful, amazing boy, Macklin Salbrini, he's the best.
God, he is the best! I was so looking forward to it. I had decided ahead of time. Now, in 2010, that's how I first got into hockey. My brother just said, hey, do you want to have a friend who started playing hockey because there's a rink nearby? Do you want me to do that? And I, having never done anything like that, was like, that sounds great.
0:03:40 Lydia: Right. Yeah.
0:04:29 Lydia: It was not nearby for you either.
0:04:30 Thomas: I mean, yeah, it's true. It was like an hour away, but still.
0:04:30 Lydia: Yeah. You had to drive an hour, but you got to hang out with your brother.
0:04:34 Thomas: Somewhat nearby. By. Yeah. But I had never done anything like that. I barely even ice skated like once as a kid, you know, and I was just like, that sounds great. And I got really, really into it. I love it. And so that same year I started watching hockey. I was like, okay, what's the team near me? And I literally had to ask Sam, my brother, like, what team do you do?
0:04:35 Lydia: So yeah.
0:04:53 Thomas: And he's like, the Sharks. I was Like, okay. And then started watching the Shanks and I just got into it and then, yeah.
0:04:53 Lydia: What team do you do Oh, it's like Peak Sharks too, I mean, it was like some really really good years, then
0:05:01 Thomas: Yeah, it really was it was good times, but that year, 2010, was also really good Olympic hockey, and a certain Shark by the name of Joe Pavelski, Captain America, had an amazing, amazing, yeah, was, I don't know if he was the captain in 2010 though, he couldn't have been. I don' think, but they called him Captain Amerika after, yeah, no, I was actually just stopping to think, like was he the captain, he would have, he would've been too young, I think, plus there was other better, better Americans. But maybe not that tournament. He had a tournament that was so good. He was a pretty young player. It was unreal. They beat Canada in the main because, what they tend to do, if you didn't watch, if you don't watch this kind of thing, is they, they play preliminaries, you know, and there's different matchups, different pools. And then after that, they use those standings to then have the medal
0:05:03 Lydia: Yeah yeah, literally Captain America, no, No, no, I don't mean, like, literally the hockey Captain, I'm just saying, he's like actually Captain Amerika, the superhero. Oh, okay, okay, seed
0:05:45 Thomas: Rounds, of course. And that year, I think we were in the same pod. I'm pretty sure this is all by memory. And I swear we beat Canada. In the regular play, like the tournament pod play, whatever. And then they beat us in overtime. The dagger, Sidney Crosby. And that was the greatest hockey experience. I was just hooked ever since that. 2014, Captain Canada.
0:05:45 Lydia: The finals. Yeah, mm-hmm.
0:06:06 Lydia: Crosby, Captain Canada.
0:06:11 Thomas: 2014, you know, let's not talk about that. We don't, there's no need to dwell. It wasn't good for America. And then no Olympics. Think about that, 2010, 2014. Think about politically where a me was and where the country was, I back then, I didn't even consider that I would do anything other than root for America to win hockey. They hadn't won the gold, of course, since the Miracle on Ice, 1980, which was an absolute miracle, talk about sporting events, just incredible, the cool, watch that movie, it's so good, so inspiring, so cool, unironically, we can have nice things, we can be corny sometimes, and that movie fucking rules, I stand by it, anyway, Anyway,
0:06:24 Lydia: Yeah, there's also a new documentary too, by the way, that just came out, yeah, okay, interesting.
0:06:48 Thomas: I watched they made one about the year about how Russia dealt with the years after that, that I watched. That was really interesting. But I still was kind of bummed because I just kind of want to see the miracle.
0:06:57 Lydia: I just want to watch the Miracle. I
0:06:58 Thomas: So I watch that again. Yeah, we watch that. Yeah. So think about that. 2010, 2014, the difference. And of course, I watched the hockey and the other tournaments, of course. But it's just not quite the same. It's just that, you know, we want to be the best. Best. People want to see the best of best. And so then there's no NHL in the Olympics until this year. And last year in the NHL, they did a thing called the Four Nations Face-Off where they decided to pause the NHl, have a little mini Olympics in a way, and play Four Nations national teams. And the crazy thing about this was, I'm trying so hard to not go into too much of this because I could just talk about this forever.
The coolest thing happened last year, and I promise promise this is some, this is somewhat relevant. It's, it's at least adjacent and I want to talk about it. The coolest thing happened last year, which was there's, if you're not a if youre a sports Sportsman, not a sport's fan, there's historically, we used to have these things called like all-star games and whatever for baseball, basketball, football, the pro bowl. And back in the day, they were pretty cool. Like there's you know, in basketball, it was like Jordan and magic a Johnson, you know? And they had pride. They were trying to like win for their, their, conference or whatever the hell it's called. I haven't watched basketball in so long, but,
0:07:22 Lydia: Hmm. Yeah. Mm hmm,
0:08:05 Thomas: You Know, it'd be the versus West, I guess it is there, I guess, blanking for a sec. And it would be cool. They'd actually go at it. You know, they're probably not playing like a hundred percent, but they're playing close enough. Yeah. Maybe they were actually, I mean, they were so competitive. Then I think what started happening is, you know, people recognize sports science is advanced and also with how much bigger and faster and stronger. The get every single year. Nobody wants to get injured. So nobody wants to do these things. They don't want to actually play. The Pro Bowl became a joke. NFL, I watched one where they just were standing like playing catch almost on
0:08:07 Lydia: Hmm. Like 85. Yeah, yeah.
0:08:38 Thomas: The field. I mean, just nobody watched it.
0:08:38 Lydia: People are understandably risk averse when you can see like how incredibly terrible those injuries happen
0:08:43 Thomas: Yeah. Well, business-wise, yeah, business wise, you might blow your multi-million million dollar asset.
0:08:51 Lydia: Something that doesn't really matter.
0:08:52 Thomas: Exactly. And so the Olympics is an interesting thing because it does actually matter, but it's not the business that they're in. So it is a tough thing, I think, for the owners. And I get it. I don't know much about the other leagues, but specifically for hockey, they're like, yeah, so it's rough. So last year they do this Four Nations and I couldn't believe they were doing that, but they just decided to do that instead of the All-Stars. And I was like, well, well, this is great. Here's thing. No one was sure how this would go. I don't think.
0:08:52 Lydia: Yeah yeah to be willing to have your guys participate in that yeah
0:09:19 Clip: This is something that players and fans alike have been waiting almost a decade for. 92 of the game's best players divided up by country. Is there anywhere else that you'd rather be? The wait is over.
0:09:33 Thomas: They do the Four Nations from the get-go. Everyone is enraptured. It is like everybody cares about it. They're trying really hard. They are getting hurt. People were worried that there were some injuries. They were like, oh, great. They re never going to let us have this again. Because the Olympics were the next year. Mind you, this was last year. It was was incredible. It was some of the most amazing hockey. The final had the U.S. and Canada and Canada won barely though. It Was, it was close. I was very close. But the, but the fucking U.S. team with the Kachucks, it felt a little Trumpy. I was, I was mixed feelings because I was like, man, I don't think I can root for the U.S. Really. I mean, I kind of was Austin Matthews. I wanted him to maybe, you know, he's had a rough go of it. I want him to win, but I was kind of, and then long comes this year when I am firmly like, well, Well, I hate America and I'm rooting for Canada.
0:10:18 Lydia: And everything American. Yeah.
0:10:20 Thomas: So, of course, this would be the first year since 1980 that the U.S. wins the fucking gold medal for the Mets. But meanwhile, I also am just as in it for the women's. They have a professional hockey league now that's going well. I'm really excited.
0:10:27 Lydia: Yeah, yeah. Which isn't anywhere near us. And it drives me crazy. I wish we had a team here or closer, even like even if it was in the Bay Area, that would be so amazing. The Bay Area would have like they would have such an incredible fan base.
0:10:35 Thomas: Yeah. Yep. PWHL, if you're listening, please put a team near me.
0:10:47 Lydia: Yeah well like the Valkyries you know you have WNBA team based out in the Bay Area and stuff and their their fan base is amazing they're it's so strong there I
0:10:54 Thomas: Yeah, that's a little... demographically when it comes to the interest in hockey versus interest in basketball.
0:10:59 Lydia: Don't know with the Sharks and everything too like I I uh perhaps
0:11:01 Thomas: It's rough. I wish they would do it. I doubt it. And in a fledgling league, they're going to go to the biggest markets possible. There's only like six teams. I don't know if they're expanded from that yet.
0:11:13 Lydia: I don't think so. I don't think they've talked expansion yet.
0:11:15 Thomas: Yeah, but there's professional a league. Women's hockey has been great. I love watching the women's every single time there's the Winter Olympics. The U.S. team is great. It's just actually fucking Amazing, fantastic. I'm watching the U.S. games, I'm watching the Canada games, and our team, amazing. This is, I, I quickly was like, oh, I'm more into this because our team is so fucking good.
0:11:17 Lydia: Mm hmm. Yeah. Just so dominant.
0:11:37 Thomas: Um, the historic dominance of the women's team
0:11:37 Lydia: Yeah my god that freaking game I'm just like I'm remembering the end of it sorry it's just crazy.
0:11:43 Thomas: Well, we gotta start at the beginning. We're going through every single, get, no, I'm just kidding. But the amount of that the U.S. dominated, I can't even even describe, and I'm doing, I'm this for a reason, because the final, the is that much better knowing how much the women dominated the women, before the medal round, allowed one goal. They won five to one, five to nothing, five to nothing, five to nothing.
0:11:45 Lydia: Yeah yeah play by play.
0:11:57 Lydia: Yeah Yeah, yeah.
0:12:05 Thomas: Goal in the tournament, and by the way, one of the five to nothings was Canada. We beat the shit out of Canada. Now, they were missing a, a good, a very good player, one of the best players, but in hockey, one player doesn't make your whole team.
0:12:10 Lydia: So cool. Yeah.
0:12:19 Lydia: At that level, no.
0:12:20 Thomas: Know, so beating them five nothing was, that was crazy. Like And I decided that I'm not going to, punish women for Trump. I'm unabashedly team fucking USA when it comes to the women. I'm wearing a goddamn flag around my, as a, as a yeah Yeah, exactly. Fuck it. I can't root for the men. Also, they're Trumpy and fuck it. I hate our country. But when it comes to women, that doesn't count.
0:12:23 Lydia: Mm hmm. Oh, yeah, 100%. He's painted his face.
0:12:44 Thomas: I'm all about USA women.
0:12:44 Lydia: No, they're all beautiful and perfect.
0:12:46 Thomas: Yeah, they are amazing, except there's one that's a Trumper, but we'll not talk about that. Or maybe we will. I don't know. Was so fun rooting for them and the domination. I mean, just the pure the other teams had no chance.
0:12:48 Lydia: Yeah, whatever.
0:12:57 Thomas: It Wasn't it, wasn't like it was close and we just happened to get more goals. It was like they weren't even, the other teams weren't playing the same game, and so we get to this final where it's like, okay, we, have dominated so much, and our team USA, team USA is young team, Canada is very old.
I saw a lot of the Canadians complaining, they're like, this is after they lost five nothing to us in the in the rounds or whatever, they're like, god, we're, we're yeah, We're totally, no, they're mad, yeah, they're mad at like the organ, the people who, um, are in charge of the Olympic team like the national team and all that, they're like, yeah, they're just have all these old players, I can't believe it, like this is, you know, we need to fire these people in charge of this team like Team Canada, for women's was just, they were just, it was a disarray, and Team Team America, Team USA couldn't be flying higher, our players are like freaking in their teens practically, so good, I mean, we got some obviously some really good veterans, but, but young team, I mean, it's just riding high, we go through, we beat every quarterfinal team round, we beat Italy six nothing, that's Italy, who cares? They don't really play hockey. Sweden is a good hockey country.
0:12:56 Lydia: Mm hm. Yeah? Yeah. We're tired. Yeah. Right.
0:13:41 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah,
0:13:54 Thomas: Semi-final, we beat Sweden 5-0. We still have allowed one goal in this entire tournament. One goal. I mean, it's unheard of. I mean it's just like the domination. And so we get to this Canada gold medal game, US versus Canada. And I'm, you know, anything can happen any given Sunday. Day, but but we were so much better and so I'm sitting here thinking we got this, we got this
0:14:13 Lydia: You never know. I mean, like we're talking about two of the best countries when it comes to hockey. I know, I know. But you never know, you never never know
0:14:23 Clip: Happened come inside Santa Julia Arena, the winner will take the gold. The United States and Canada, they meet for the seventh time in eight gold medal games in women's hockey. Canada has won the gold five times and the United States twice. The USA has beaten them the last seven times they have met, that dating back to the world championships, but we are down to a one-game tournament, no matter what has happened up to this moment, it's the next 60 minutes that will make or break this team's legacy.
0:14:57 Thomas: And then the game happens, and instantly you remember how much pressure is a part of it, how much experience, and, and then I was starting to think like shit, maybe, maybe Canada was onto something, maybe having these old experienced players, I mean, our team looked nervous, they just, just weren't doing the same things they were doing in the other rounds they were just not there, and I was like, fuck, are we really gonna lose this poor amazing U.S. women's team that deserves so much
0:15:03 Lydia: Not connecting on the passes and stuff yeah
0:15:24 Clip: Boss to the puck for Canada. Up the boards. And out of the zone. Played by Stacey. Will Canada shorthand it? Laura Stacey across. O'Neal scores! Shorthanded. Canada takes a one. The first goal of this game was more important to Canada than the U.S., and they get it. This is big for them. Great move by Stacey to come down, and then O'Neal with a good finish. What they do is they take advantage of Team USA, who got too deep.
0:16:00 Thomas: Second, it's one to nothing Canada, the whole time it wasn't like USA played bad, they allowed one goal on a, I think a breakaway, I believe it was, or am I confusing with the men's
0:16:08 Lydia: No, I think that was, and that was early, right? It was early in the game, yeah.
0:16:10 Thomas: Yeah, it was early uh, Yes, yeah, I think that was it, but we just, just couldn't get past this goalie, we couldn't score, it's hard to score in hockey, it's hard to do, and then when the pressure ramps up, you know, because scoring is often a thing you got to do with finesse, yeah, it's
0:16:22 Lydia: Well, yeah, you start to feel a little more desperate as the clock winds down, right? I've never played hockey, but I, I understand like a little bit of the mental, just because of like watching you play for a long time, I've been a Sharks fans since '08, I want to say, 2008, and so longer than you. And yeah,
0:16:37 Thomas: And she even watches some of the games, guys.
0:16:39 Lydia: I used to watch all of them.
0:16:41 Thomas: You dare flex your fandom on me, name a one shark name one shark, that's not Celebrini or Will Smith, name a shark not named Celebrini, go do it right now, don't, don't you Google?
0:16:44 Lydia: Back then, back then, Celebrini. Eklund.
0:16:53 Thomas: Okay. You did. You got Eklund. Did you do that yourself?
0:16:54 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah, I did that myself.
0:16:56 Thomas: Good job.
0:16:56 Lydia: Thank you, you so much to foley of course
0:16:57 Thomas: I'll give you credit. Oh, that's a good point. Yeah. To fully, oh, I wanted to talk about, I want to talk about, Toffin Winberg.
0:16:59 Lydia: Part of the part of the little triplets oh Wenberg.
0:17:02 Thomas: We should, I'm glad you remembered that because that is actually important. I do want to talk about that because it's, remind me to get to the examples. Exactly right. And,
0:17:03 Lydia: Yes, Okay, The desperation starts to get to you as the clock winds down and you start doing things a little crazy.
0:17:19 Thomas: When you're desperate and you're having to play so hard. That's what I love about hockey is the combination. I don't know if there's another sport quite like this, where you have to be killing yourself, trying so hard and then do finesse things. Often, like football. Yeah, okay, there's throwing, catching, but like. A lot of times you're just running, you're just trying to pound the ball forward.
That feeling of like, feeling of what, like, imagine being desperate, like, you're just like, "God, I gotta score, gotta win, gotta win." That might lend itself, unless you're me and you have an anxiety disorder and gives you a heart attack. If you're not me, that might lend itself to like, I'm just gonna pound something hard, I'm just gonna go, go, go. Do that in hockey, it does help in some situations, but you also have to make really delicate passes and shots and stuff, and like, it's it's such a, there's so many times that I, as an amateur hockey player, skate my ass off to a puck, which feels to me like it's really fast, and I'm skating hard, I get there, and then like I try to do something with it, and because I'm so pumped on the adrenaline of trying to get there, and beat the person to the puck, then I do something way too hard. Like, I'll pass it like way over someone because, like, oh, I forgot to switch to the, like, fucking finesse mode. It's really
0:18:25 Thomas: Hard. And so that can.
0:18:01 Lydia: Yeah, right Put that energy into the wrists at that point.
0:18:28 Thomas: Yeah, yeah, I've totally I've thrown a pass like way over a person because of that, because it's really hard. Like it's the presence of mind you need. And So often this is going to happen. You push you want to push harder. And this team, this U.S. women's team is so good. You want to Push harder that it took until the last second six on five. We pull our goalie and then all all of a sudden we
0:18:29 Lydia: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, totally.
0:18:46 Clip: Keller, Edwards, Janicki, there's Keller. Now Janicki plays the puck. The United States net is empty.
0:18:59 Clip: Now Edwards. Across to Keller. Back down to Edwards. Edwards with a shot. Score! How about this? From a face-off win, Hilary Knight, the captain, five-time Olympian, with that goal, becomes the all-time leader in women's Olympic goal scoring and point scoring history. And it is a beautiful tip. And they finally get one pass. And Rene' Debian. Desperation mode. Team USA tied the the game.
0:19:41 Thomas: It was, uh, what's her name is the D, no, it was the D that shot it. Uh, Layla Edwards,
0:19:42 Lydia: Keller. Oh, that shot it. Oh yeah. First Black female hockey women's.
0:19:47 Thomas: Yeah, Yeah. Yep. For USA women's for sure. She had been struggling. I was a little worried. Like she seemed like she was pretty nervous. She was great during the tournament, but then, you know, I was like, Oh, you know it, I can't understand how anyone could do any of this. I would have seven heart attacks just walking into the building. So it's not a judgmental thing. I was just like, damn, I feel bad for them. I'm there's like, some players that just have it and thrive under the pressure. And there's something that like, you can tell like, they just just aren't the same. They aren't the same under that intense pressure. And believe me, I get it. I can't believe anyone can do anything under that pressure. It's so hard. And so Layla Edwards having kind of not a great game until that last, last second. I she shoots from the point, I believe, if I'm remembering correctly.
And then of course, believe it was Hillary Knight tipped it in and they tie it last minute so this whole game and and here's what I wanted to say, the reason I wanted to build this up too is as good as the USA women's has been and it's been fucking phenomenal, it's been such a thrill to see how good they are. I am someone, I just, I just love greatness. I love watching people doing incredible things. Like, it's just cool.
Like we're only here on this fucking planet once. There's a lot of people who are anti-sports, but I just love watching the, I'll watch the best people do anything. I don't
0:19:49 Lydia: Yeah yeah.
0:20:11 Lydia: Keller.
0:20:53 Lydia: Bowling.
0:20:53 Thomas: Care what it, I don't care what their thing is. Yeah.
0:20:56 Lydia: Curling.
0:20:56 Thomas: It's pretty boring, but I will watch almost, oh, well, curling is just great.
0:20:58 Lydia: You. Watched. Curling. Yeah.
0:21:00 Thomas: Like it's, it's, that's not even like an ironic thing. It's just a cool sport. I like it. I didn't watch much of it, butI would have, I mainly just couldn't find the time, but II will watch the BEST people at anything. Thing. And especially stuff like this, when the more people who care about it, the better, because that means the more best you're getting, you know, you're giving from like around the world. You're getting like the actual humanity's best at something. I find it just amazing to watch that. And so I'm sitting here. I'm just as bummed as I am that I'm virtually certain the U.S. is going to lose because it's been one to nothing for the whole game. It's so hard to score. I'm also sitting here being like fucking Canada, like I got to hand it to them like Like, it gets lost in the fact that they did eventually, obviously, lose the game.
But that might have been the most historic performance in and of itself because of how much they should have lost by. They should have just been destroyed by the U.S. But they were so good. Like, improvement that they showed between pool play and gold medal game, that is, in itself, that would have been The Story forever. And it should still be. Like the fact that they lost, it should still be the story. It was incredible how well they did. And so I'm just sitting here like, this is just the best. This is the best I love it. I love the sport. I love these women. I live watching it. And of course, Keller in overtime with just this incredible move. I mean, this this move that just like objectively speaking, so nice
0:21:07 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah.
0:22:14 Thomas: To watch
0:22:14 Clip: Skaters on the ice. The outlet pass for Keller, a defenseman. Nice move. Cuts to the net. Score!
0:22:31 Lydia: Again, you, you said was having kind of a tough game, as well, what I recall while we were watching it, yeah,
0:22:33 Thomas: Yeah, I think so. I can't remember now, but but it might it might've been. Yeah, because kind of everyone was like, Canada was doing a great job and, not, the USA women did not look like themselves. And so, oh God, she wins. I was screaming my face off.
0:22:41 Lydia: Man, it was so good,
0:22:46 Thomas: I couldn't even believe I was crying. I was like this is the greatest thing. So good. I'm going to cry right now. God damn it. It's so good.
0:22:47 Lydia: Yeah, Watched the whole medal ceremony, yeah, Yeah, It was such a
0:22:53 Thomas: It was so good Hillary Knight having having proposed the night before. Ah, so good, and So it's such, it's this, this celebration of women, of queerness, of everything, everything that Trump and MAGA, sorry, everything, that Trump, and MAGA are against it, everything. That's under threat right now. You know, couldn't be more, the groups of people who MAGA and these fucking fucking fascists are coming down hardest on, like the most excellence of anyone in our fucking country. Ooh, God, sorry. Give me a sec.
0:22:58 Lydia: Baller move too, just denigrate, yeah, Yeah.
0:23:29 Thomas: Just pure bliss, just pure bliss. Then the men's, I'm not going to talk much about the men'S, uh, I was rooting for my beautiful, amazing boy, Macklin Salbrini so much to take away. I'm going to waste too much time, but the fact that this 19 year old was like the, one of the best players on a team that most goals. Yeah. Yeah, not most points, but most goals, a team that was historically stacked, like, so good. So that was fun. But then they lose, the fucking Americans. And this wasn't like, wasn't like the Team Canada thing where actually Team Canada and the men's dominated the game. It's just the goalie played phenomenally, just a phenomenal game. A lot of that's down to luck, but it's also skill. He's really good. Hellebuyck is really good, he's had a hell of a time in the playoffs, he hasn't been good, he he plays great, the USA wins, and for a second I was like, okay, do I, I guess you know, I'm really bummed, but like, okay, I'll maybe I'll
0:23:48 Lydia: Scorer, yeah, You're Like good
0:24:25 Thomas: Feel good for a Second like maybe I was, okay, you know, it has been since 1980, Miracle on Ice, the Hughes brothers seem cool a
0:24:25 Lydia: Game good game yeah yeah and it was cool yeah yeah exactly, the Hughes brothers seemed cool, and, and there was this, Jack Hughes took, took kind of a high stick to the face
0:24:36 Thomas: High stick from the player I hear, yeah, they almost made me like them because the player I hate the most on Team Canada, this fucking dickwad, Sam Bennett, who just hurts people. High sticks, Jack Hughes in the face. He loses teeth in the gold medal game.
0:24:38 Lydia: Yeah they fall to the ground like, it's disgusting, there's blood, it's it's gross
0:24:53 Thomas: Yep. And that power play, I think, is pretty much one of the reasons that I think I can't remember. You know, I guess they didn't score on it. But again, it's a late power play means we're short.
0:25:01 Lydia: But but Hughes ended up being yeah yeah
0:25:05 Thomas: Like I say, we means Team Canada was short for a critical two minutes of the last, five minutes or something like, like that, so you know, for a second I was like, you know, maybe, okay,
0:25:14 Lydia: And, and Jack Hughes, with, like, lost his teeth and stuff, stayed in the game and ended up scoring, scoring the the game-winning goal, exactly so it was like, like a beautiful little story that we got towards the end of the game
0:25:20 Thomas: Scores the game-winning goal incredible move and they talk about, you know, the Hughes's, right, it's Hughes's mom is involved in in women's hockey in the women's team, and, and you know, and they seem to be supportive of each other, it's like, you now, maybe, maybe we'll all let myself kind of, it may just, it's a little bad, me, I'm pretty mad, I hate seeing the fucking Kachuk celebrate anything, I can't stand those guys. They seem very MAGA to me. I'm like, all right, maybe. And then within seconds, within minutes, I turned it off because I'm not going to listen to our fucking anthem. That's where I draw the line.
0:25:28 Lydia: Yeah yeah, Ellen Hughes, she's player development for uh-huh yep was so quick Yeah. Yeah.
0:25:56 Thomas: I said, I'm going to sit through this medal ceremony. So I turn it off and then I start seeing on social media. What do we see?
0:26:02 Lydia: Fucking Kash Patel is in their locker room beer with them.
0:26:05 Thomas: In the fucking locker room celebrating.
0:26:08 Lydia: They're all screaming. I don't care that they're drinking beer, that they'RE celebrating in their locker room. Why the fuck is Kash Patil there?
0:26:11 Thomas: Of course. Yeah. Yeah.
0:26:15 Lydia: And I was like, really bothered by this. I remember I messaged you and you're like, well, you know, like he really likes hockey. I'm like, like, I don't care.
0:26:21 Thomas: Well, no, I wasn't saying, well, you know, he really likes. I was explaining why he was there. It is a weird thing.
0:26:23 Lydia: No, I know, but why he was there. I know. But I was like, I don't care. Like, you like hockey. You' not there. It' so stupid.
0:26:32 Thomas: Yeah, I know. It's just like if Todd Holman was there, it would be like, why is, yeah, I was just giving you the, oh,
0:26:35 Lydia: Yeah. Did you call him Todd? Tom. We talked a lot about Todd on OA.
0:26:38 Thomas: Tom, if Tom, too many Todds on the brain. If Tom Holman were there, yeah. I was giving you like the explanation for why he made that happen. I wasn't saying like, it's okay. I fucking hated it.
0:26:47 Lydia: Yeah, yeah, no. And I don't' t disagree with that. Yeah, but it was just like I was so pissed off like I know
0:26:50 Thomas: Yeah. I was juste giving you information. Don't go after me for this. I didn't do this. I don't support this.
0:26:57 Lydia: Kash Patel likes hockey, I know he plays rec league, his stupid fucking beer league, and I know I know,
0:26:58 Thomas: Okay. No, he also goes to the Capitals games. I forgot if you knew that, sorry. Didn't mean to, wasn't trying to.
0:27:04 Lydia: I know. I'll never forget that his weirdo eyes are hockey player eyes like that and Patrick Marleau eyes can exist in the same world is insane to me like you are not allowed to play hockey with eyes like Kash Patil. Blasphemy.
0:27:08 Thomas: I fucking hate him. And they come, yeah. And that was bad enough, but it was like, okay, fucking, all right, fine, whatever. I was pretty quickly was like I hate this, but and then, no,
0:27:25 Lydia: Oh, yeah, I didn't get over it, but that's okay.
0:27:27 Thomas: I was mad. But what I'm saying is it didn't like ruin my day, but I was like this sucks. And then we get the fucking worst thing
0:27:30 Lydia: Yeah, yeah. So Kash Patel pulls out his phone and calls DT on his caller ID there, Donald Trump. And
0:27:42 Thomas: So there's a lot of stuff that happened in this locker room. Kash Patel wearing a gold medal. They are singing, "It's courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue," the Angry American, subtitle by Toby Keith, 2002. And all these fuckers are singing the words. So, that's a bad sign, that's a red flag Yeah, I might have heard it when we were bombing Iraq, like I kind of remember that, "Courtesy of the Red, White..." I mean, just bullshit. Like, that's a... that's bad sign. And then, uh, you said calls Trump
0:27:57 Lydia: So weird. I've never heard that song in my life. Yeah. Right.
0:28:59 Lydia: Coolest Night.
0:29:25 Clip: Thank you, Mr. President. To me,
0:30:03 Thomas: Yeah, fuck you.
0:30:04 Lydia: Yeah. So freaking dumb.
0:30:06 Thomas: You, he's gonna gonna have to invite the team that, um, was way fucking better and beat the living shit out of all the competition. Just, it's... it's so sad. So, that, that instantly, it was so bad that it was like, oh, okay, this, almost, like, they failed so spectacularly, and the whole internet was dragging them. So badly, I was like, "Oh, that makes me feel better about Canada losing." I was, like, okay. At least they instantly became the villains for most people.
0:30:13 Lydia: Right, right. Yeah Yeah it was it It was honestly remarkable, like how quickly that day just went from feeling like really good.
0:30:40 Thomas: Yeah. Yeah, I saw it on the internet, too. Like, people, yeah, people were, like... Okay, those Hughes brothers, you know, they see... And That's the other thing. We were trying to judge beforehand, you now, and we were trying talk about it, because, like... What bright sides are there? And, you know, we had talked about, like... Well, the Hughes brothers had the Pride Tape thing, right? Or you know even
0:30:48 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Quinn Hughes was one of the ones that came out and continued to do like Pride Night, even though the NHL tried to ban it. Yeah.
0:31:07 Thomas: Though they tried to ban it because Yeah, I can't bring
0:31:10 Lydia: And he was like, no, this is important. You know, I'm going to show up and show out kind of thing.
0:31:10 Thomas: Politics into things, you know, and so it was like, okay, maybe, you know, maybe not all that so bad. And then, and then this happens. And this is just... this is, it's just awful. It's just awful.
0:31:22 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah. And it was so silent for such a long time, it felt. I was waiting for USA Hockey to say something because like the backlash was pretty swift. It was, pretty messed up. Vast majority of people were pretty upset online, at least in our circles and stuff.
0:31:41 Thomas: I don't know how to judge that anymore. I don't know. But yeah, there definitely was a backlash. People were upset.
0:31:47 Lydia: But I was so surprised that, like, I, even getting statements together for this now, I was surprised how quiet it still has been. And, like, we've gotten barely anything, like, in terms of substance, but even just to get that little bit, it feels like it's impossible for, don't for anyone to even come forward and say anything. It's been just really dry. It sucks.
0:32:06 Thomas: Sucks in every, in every way, shape and form. Try... I tried to be reasonable. I tried to understand. Okay, there's a lot of people who just aren't into politics. I get, yes, the Kachucks and some other fucking fuckwits through MAGA, like, whatever. But maybe I just had to, I'm just trying to, I've just pleading.
0:32:21 Lydia: Said like, close the northern border, like that person's, that person is clued into some, some amount of politics.
0:32:22 Thomas: I'm yeah, I could see that meant as a joke in a way that that that might not be horrible, but also you don't know. You don't fucking know.
0:32:33 Lydia: Guess, yeah, also Cash Patel's in your, your locker room, so if you don't want about politics then maybe don't have Cash Patel in your locker room idiotic
0:32:35 Thomas: Yeah, exactly. Yeah. You can't joke about any immigration fucking topic next to laughing along with the fascists who have murdered, like, citizens and stuff. Like, it's just, yeah, it's, it's horrific. Horrific, but I'm trying to think, like, okay, maybe some of them, they just are those kinds of people that just don't really pay attention, and you win, and the president of your country calls. I, I, you know, you're carried away with emotion. I could see being, I could see the part where you're like, "Okay, this is whatever it is.
Kind of cool." I guess if you, again, if you're not political, and you know, I'm just trying, just bargaining, I'm just trying to think, like, maybe not all of... I'm trying to bargain into maybe not all of them are the worst fucking, you know, and then this joke happens. Even then I could say, OK, I get in the heat of the moment in a situation like that.
I don't blame people for, for, like, I'm not expecting anyone to turn into a woke Aaron Sorkin speech, like, that's just not going to happen. It's not going to happen. But, and I think it did. I think like did genuinely catch them off guard.
0:33:29 Lydia: Yeah, I agree. Yeah.
0:33:34 Thomas: Like I think, you know, the guys like two for two, like they, when the first brought up, they they were saying celebratory things about the women's team. I think that pretty much everyone in that locker room, if not everyone supports the women's U.S. hockey team.
0:33:47 Lydia: A hundred percent.
0:33:48 Thomas: It's not necessarily about that, but they, that's the end of understanding what what I can't believe hasn't happened is that there hasn't been a single to my mind, and you've checked on this and going to get kind of, I guess, an update because I haven't checked on it in a while. But the fact that, okay, in the heat of the moment, fine, whatever. But now the dust has settled. Is anyone going to say anything like an apology or even a statement that would make this okay, that would would, that would show that you understand how shitty and sexist this is. Because what's the joke? What's the joke Trump's making? Like someone to riddle me the joke.
0:33:50 Lydia: All they'll tell you too, with their statements, by the way, yeah.
0:34:29 Thomas: The joke is fucking women. I can't believe they allow them to play sports. Like what? There's no other punchline.
0:34:34 Lydia: I'm gonna have to invite them too, sorry, guys.
0:34:36 Thomas: I'm going to have to invite the gold medal women's amazing team. Fucking sorry.
0:34:41 Lydia: You're gonna have to share the space with them, because if you don't, then they'll have my head.
0:34:43 Thomas: Yeah. And he's apologizing to the men as though they are going to having a problem with it, you know? And I know Trump is joking, but that's where the joke comes from. The joke doesn't make sense without the sexist backing assumptions behind it.
0:34:48 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-huh.
0:34:57 Thomas: It's not legible without the Sexism behind it, so I'm just hoping. Give me somebody. I'm like maybe the Hughes brothers, who, by the way, as we said, their mom works with the team. I was thinking, okay, surely, surely someone is going to say something that is at least like, okay. I'll give them a half a point of credit for trying. Surely. But what did we get?
0:35:07 Lydia: Yeah.
0:35:19 Thomas: You've checked.
0:35:19 Lydia: Here, yeah, I'll send you a couple things. We can just play through a couple of these guys and see if anything lands for you. What do you think? All right. First up, Austin Matthews.
0:35:30 Thomas: So this next part of the show will be me slowly losing respect for people that I used to love to watch play stuff.
0:35:37 Lydia: Yeah.
0:35:38 Clip: I don't like to get political or get into that kind of stuff. I mean, like I said, we're proud Americans. And, you know, winning a gold medal, it's been 46 years since the men's hockey team has done that. So, I mean the team that wins the Stanley Cup every year accepts the White House invitation to go. So, I mean, I just think it's something that you do because we are proud Americans and whatever your political beliefs may be. I mean hopefully something like this will, you know, hopefully bring more unity to the country and stuff like that.
0:36:09 Thomas: What?
0:36:09 Clip: But, I meantime, for us we believe it's a great honor no matter who's in office. Sometimes your phone call to you kind of elicits a negative reaction because of how you mentioned the women's team. I know you guys became very close with that team there. I'm just wondering your thoughts on that. Yeah, it was unfortunate. I mean, we you know, we love women's team. We support them. I mean the night we won the gold medal we were Hanging out in the dining hall till like 3 4 in the morning.
0:36:09 Lydia: It won't, Austin.
0:36:10 Thomas: Yeah, it's
0:36:16 Lydia: Yeah.
0:36:25 Thomas: Unfortunate.
0:36:32 Clip: So, you know it's unfortunate that you know that kind of occurred you know we have nothing but love and respect for the women's and and what they were able to accomplish and you know, it's amazing that you have the men's and women's ice hockey teams. We're both bringing home gold medals for the United States of America, and I think that should be talked about more than you know the other, but we're extremely proud of them and happy for them, and we support them 100 percent.
0:36:32 Lydia: You're going to hear that from everybody, by the way. Hmm, yeah.
0:36:36 Thomas: It's unfortunate,
0:36:57 Lydia: Yeah.
0:36:58 Thomas: Yeah, It's Unfortunate. What's unfortunate? What happened? Tell me what happened. What is the thing that is unfortunate? Somebody tell me. You know, is an accident that, what, like, what, what's the unfortunate thing?
0:37:00 Lydia: Uh-huh?
0:37:12 Lydia: Uh-uh.
0:37:13 Thomas: I want to know what he thinks it is.
0:37:15 Lydia: Because that's the thing, because they don't want to talk about it because they don't actually I I think what they think is unfortunate is the backlash.
0:37:21 Thomas: That anyone cared yeah they think it's unfortunate that, like, I think in their minds, to give them credit, I don't mean to give him tons of credit, but just, to just like, to be fair, I bet, I bet he doesn't, from his point of view, he's, he's saying clearly, I don't agree with the sentiment. So it's unfortunate that happened because now it's put the focus on something that we don't agree. But not just an unfortunate thing that happened. The part that is driving me crazy is that no one anywhere ever is allowed to expect anything from the President of the United States.
0:37:22 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Mm-hmm. Uh huh.
0:37:53 Thomas: He just gets to be an unfortunate. It's unfortunate. Darn. Bummer, bummer that that happened.
0:37:59 Lydia: And bummer that someone caught it on camera.
0:38:01 Thomas: One gets to say, yeah, no, I, even if you said, yeah, I thought it was pretty cool that the president, we were talking to the president until he said that fucking shit, what was that, what was, what would a normal human being reaction be if you were a normal, like, human who gave a shit? In a, like, in a social situation, you'd like, what why are you joking like that, what are you talking about, why would we not, why would you not invite the Wimstein, they won, they fucking rule, what do you mean, what do you mean, sir, I wish you could do the thing, I know, I don't blame him in the moment, again, I don't, there's no way, and, like, I would never have the presence of mind in that kind of moment, yeah, the president on the phone, but later, collect yourself and say, you know, yeah, that sucks, that he said that, that was a bad thing to say.
Someone just, the show, bare, bare minimum of saying, yeah, that wasn't a good thing to say. I don't, I'm not super into going to the White House now because he said that. I just would love a single person to say anything, like, what, any other human, what, what anyone should say in a situation like this, which is, yeah, that was a shitty thing to say.
0:38:17 Lydia: Yeah exactly winning a gold medal you're celebrating with your teammates like no way. Right.
0:39:06 Lydia: Well, maybe Brady Kachuk will get a little closer.
0:39:08 Thomas: Oh, please. Yeah, that's yeah, I should you know what I should give my rubric before, you know, before we go through this. Give me some I will I will grade this fucking team on such a curve.
0:39:12 Lydia: Mm-hmm. Mm-mm-mm.
0:39:17 Thomas: I will I will let you fucking do a drawing for extra credit in this class All you have to say is yeah, that was a messed up thing to say, any anything anything, like that was yeah that was a bad thing to say. I don't, hopefully you could even say yeah I think he was trying to make a joke, but yeah that was a bad thing to say. I don't, I don't, like, I mean it's messed up, it's anything, me give, give me the slightest, the slightest condemnation of the thing that was said.
0:39:21 Lydia: Mm. Mm, Let's see what he does.
0:39:42 Thomas: Okay. All right. Let's go. Let us deal with another one. Here we go.
0:39:45 Clip: I know you supported their semi-final. KK, talking about you, Abby Murphy, would you understand how they could feel pretty put down by that moment? I mean, I, yeah, I mean I get it, I think, um, yeah, I don't really, of course, where I have no really other comments other than for the things that we can control, and that was, we supported them, they supported us, can't control about what other people say, that's just kind of life itself. But for us, I thought not just the importance, but it was fun being around them, it was fun seeing them play, it was fun to see the excellence that they brought every single game and how they're by far the best team in that tournament. It was just fun hanging out with them after, picking their brains, they were picking our brains, and it was just fun to be around them. So then why would you go out?
0:40:05 Lydia: Yikes.
0:40:37 Clip: I mean, I don't really have an answer.
0:40:39 Thomas: Wow. Good on that journalist.
0:40:41 Clip: Honestly, it was just a whirlwind of a moment that you can't really control what somebody says and it just I guess caught off guard a little bit, but when you're talking to the President ten minutes after you just achieve your dream, it's it's just the fact that you're talking to them. It's just you can't really believe where your life's at, that you talk to the President of the United States after you just won a gold medal.
0:40:41 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah, she's amazing.
0:41:15 Clip: Yeah, I mean I I don't know if, because everybody's kind of gone to their respective seasons and their plan, and obviously if I see one of them, then we'll just talk about, I mean, the excitement of of what we are to control, and that's to be gold medalists and champions of the world. So I know it's not just, you know, the men's team and the women's team separately, are going to be linked together forever. There's both teams that I think this is the first time that the U.S. has gone two for two in the Olympics as, you now, a hockey champ. So we're kind of linked together for the rest of. Did you ever think that all of this would be so polarized? I mean, I definitely didn't.
0:41:56 Thomas: Really?
0:41:56 Clip: For me it's achieved my childhood dream and a lot of the guys in the room achieve their childhood dreams that just have that memory together. I mean I know I wasn't thinking about, you know, the politics of it, because they were the guys on the ice playing, sacrificing our bodies and do whatever it takes to win and all that other stuff that can't control and can't anything about it. But some.
0:41:57 Thomas: Wait, but isn't it unfortunate?
0:42:22 Thomas: I appreciate how much they tried to actually get an answer. I do appreciate that.
0:42:24 Lydia: Yeah, they pushed on him. The most, like clear opinion he has, like the hardest dance he's willing to take, is when they ask him about the AI video that the White House posted of him like making fun of Canada.
0:42:34 Thomas: Oh, oh yeah. What was the video exactly?
0:42:39 Lydia: Was basically him him in quotes saying negative things about Canada. And the White House posted it on their social media accounts. And if you go to 932, we'll get the question leading up to it and how Brady feels about it. Now compare and contrast it.
0:42:53 Thomas: Okay. I have a prediction that he will be much better on this.
0:42:57 Lydia: Yeah.
0:42:58 Clip: The White House posted a fake video of you saying derogatory things about Canada. How do you feel about that? Yeah, well, it's clearly fake because it's not my voice and not my lips moving. So, I mean, I'm not in control of any of those accounts. And, yeah, so I know that those words will never come out of my mouth, so I can't do anything about it. Do you like it? Do I like like that?
0:43:10 Thomas: Uh-huh. Yeah. No one thought you were.
0:43:25 Clip: Did I like it? I mean, it's not my voice, not what I was saying, so yeah.
0:43:28 Thomas: That's not the question.
0:43:30 Clip: I mean, I would never say that, that's not who I am, so yeah, I guess. I don't like that video because that's just never would come out of my mouth, never a thought and I'll leave it at that.
0:43:33 Thomas: Why is it so hard to have an opinion?
0:43:42 Lydia: Yeah, so it
0:43:43 Thomas: Why? Why leave it at that? So he actually wasn't much better,
0:43:45 Lydia: Wasn't much better, but it was a little he he eventually said I didn't like it.
0:43:49 Thomas: Yeah. He was able to say... Oh, he did eventually say, I didn't like it.
0:43:52 Lydia: If that's from my reading of the transcript on this, yeah, he
0:43:54 Thomas: Oh, Okay. Okay. Yeah, and the difference is is men. He is going to go home and play on a team where a bunch of men that he plays with are from the country that the fake video is slamming. He plays in Canada.
0:44:06 Lydia: Plays for Ottawa. He plays in Canada.
0:44:09 Thomas: I didn't think about that. I forgot which team he played for. Yeah. But I think beyond that, would be in his mind, he's like, wait, people affected by this are are people I give a shit about. Don't give a shit about women's or, you know, liberals reaction to anything. Oh, wait a minute.
0:44:10 Lydia: Yeah these are my brothers.
0:44:23 Thomas: Yeah, this is something I actually do care about this because a man will be affected by it. That's what I think is going on there. And maybe by their read, something like Canada can be less quote unquote politics than, a joke at the expense of women.
0:44:24 Lydia: This is the brotherhood. Yeah Mmhmm.
0:44:39 Thomas: But it's still not great again, because his Lord and Savior, probably Donald Trump, you You can't you can't criticize. He has to be talked about. Here's the thing that drives me nuts about this. And it's been true of Trump from the beginning, but especially with this. We get to treat the president of the United States like a baby who is shit a diaper. You get to talk about the the guy who runs the country as like, yeah, boy, it sucks that that baby shit his diaper when we're celebrating. Yeah, it stunk. I mean, you it happened. I can't control it. It does stink that, you know, there was a baby shit a diaper. There's not a sense in which you can be like, yes, the thing that this sentient human did who can make choices and by the way, is in control of the country was bad.
0:45:04 Lydia: Kid gloves. Yeah. Was
0:45:23 Thomas: The thing he said was bad
0:45:23 Lydia: Messed up showed poor leadership, and I I do not support those statements.
0:45:27 Thomas: Makes me think less of him as As a person, like this is just you don't have to be the woke mafia. You just got to be like, yeah, that's not cool. You can. I would even again, I'm grading on such a curve. I would because this is fucking athletes. It's NHL players. Give me somebody who said, yeah. You know, I don't I didn't really process it in real time. But yeah, no, I wouldn't have laughed at that. I don'T think that's a good joke.
0:45:30 Lydia: So
0:45:54 Thomas: I wonder if by the time we're done here, you're going to have any good examples of that, but I'll leave that aside. I also, there's something that I want to see if you think is valid. There's something I can't help but notice. Maybe my woke ass is reading too much into it, but I just feel like as a society, we are all, and I think this happens on a micro relationship level, on an interpersonal level. I think it happens at a societal level. You know, I've kind of talked about this before in different terms, but I can't help but hear how many ways we desperately want it to be OK for the men. Like when we're mad at a woman as a society, we just want to be mad at her. We're just like, fuck this person. She sucks.
0:46:31 Lydia: Yeah. Oh, they can, they can never make it right.
0:46:40 Thomas: No, it's impossible. But with the men, she's like, "Yeah, we know, we know you love you." Like they started the Brady Kachuk one. And I think that questioner was doing it. This is not at all to besmirch the questioner. I think she was doing a good job, and I think she was kind of doing what she has to do because of our stupid society. But you have to be like, "Hey, we, we know you support the women's team." And but like, can you, can you understand why that would have, you know, been a little offense? Like we're desperate to make it OK for them to do their job for them.
0:46:40 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah, I don't disagree. I think there's also another angle to the way that she's framing that question. And that's we see that same exact rhetoric from every single one of these players. It's like, you know, we really we love and respect the women's team. You know, know we're always supporting them and and I think she's cutting it off I think I think there's a strategy to that
0:47:14 Thomas: Mm hmm. Oh, that could be that could be can be so you show she's like cutting that off ahead of time. No, that could be. Totally could be, I think, um, you're probably right just because I really liked her interviewing. I don't know who that is. Just, you know what I should, just to give people, hold on.
0:47:33 Lydia: She's just like a local Ottawa lady
0:47:37 Thomas: I Want to give people some of comparison. Hockey interviews are terrible. They are the worst. That right there, I was actually going to make the joke. That even though it was like a bad answer from Brady, I was actually gonna joke like, this is actually the best hockey interview I've ever heard in my life because they're normally So fucking bad that, well, and not just the hockey players, the hockey players are bad they're boring, but the questions are also so fucking awful. They're like, so how do you feel about your goalie tonight it'll just be that, it's just nothing there's, and even when they're trying to be like contentious, it'll be like, like, so do you feel really disappointed that you didn't win the Stanley Cup? It's like, yes, yes. It's like, they're terrible. Like, hockey interviews are notoriously terrible. So to hear that person, that you played that interview, she sounded really good. I wonder if it's, oh, Ottawa is probably more of a hockey market. It could also be, like in the United States, we kind of have, like, the dregs.
0:47:38 Lydia: Yeah.
0:47:52 Lydia: Like Oh, that's kind of media savvy yeah yeah obviously people
0:48:30 Thomas: We don't have, fucking Walter Cronkite on our hockey interviews, but they're notoriously bad. I think she was doing a great job. You're probably right. But I do think broadly speaking, though, I do think we are doing that, though.
0:48:31 Lydia: Who couldn't cut it for NFL yeah Yeah. Yeah.
0:48:42 Thomas: I think so many people when when it's a woman, we're just like, hey, do you know you suck? Will be the question when it'S a man. It's like, Hey, you you probably didn't mean it. And and like, you know, we know you're just so great. But like and you're awesome. But like, could you maybe do you sort of get why other people might think?
0:48:42 Lydia: No, I don't disagree. Mm-hmm. Yeah, If you put yourself in their shoes for a little bit, like could you also see, and you're kind of feeding them the answer a little bit too? Yeah.
0:49:04 Thomas: Yeah. Yeah. The bar. Yeah, the bar is so fucking low. It's so fucking low. It, because it really could be, in another, like in a just world I think it be, "Hey, man, what the fuck?" Like, you, you just heard a pedophile, a guy who's in the Epstein files and is likely fucked kids, you heard him make a joke that the always gonna have to invite the women who, by the way, are way fucking better than you, like, just relative speaking, like they're way better. And you guys laughed along with that, like, what the fuck, like that, that's, if it were a just world, that's the tone it should be. Maybe slightly less hostile, like give them a chance. But it, but it, we bend over backwards for, for dudes.
0:49:11 Lydia: Mm Yeah Yeah.
0:49:49 Lydia: Well, you ready to lower the bar a little bit even more?
0:49:49 Thomas: Oh, god. It is, it's pretty low.
0:49:53 Lydia: Well, because we have another Kachuk brother that we're going to visit. Now we're gonna go.
0:49:56 Thomas: Jesus Christ. The worst one too? I don't know, they're both pretty bad. What
0:49:59 Lydia: They're both pretty bad. We're gonna going to go see Matthew Kachuk. And he didn't just give an interview, you know, in the locker room during a hockey game, pregame, postgame, whatever. He went on Megyn Kelly.
0:50:10 Thomas: The, oh, a hockey journalist, Megyn Kelly?
0:50:13 Lydia: Yeah, hockey journalist Megyn Kelly.
0:50:15 Thomas: Went on NHL uh Network, Megan Kelley, what is he doing
0:50:16 Lydia: Completely unbiased, non-political, nonpolitical. Right. Because we don't want to bring politics into this. So let's go on Megyn Kelly.
0:50:25 Thomas: I confess, since you already, I already heard you say that, otherwise my natural reaction would have been, bigger, what the fuck is he doing on Megyn Kelly? She's not a hockey person that I know of, maybe, am I wrong, is she like a, a hockey fan? This is the political thing? Yeah, okay.
0:50:30 Lydia: Yes. Yes, well, Don't think a hockey fan, I think she looks for culture touchstone Moments
0:50:44 Thomas: No, but I, that's the point.
0:50:44 Lydia: To go viral. Yeah.
0:50:45 Thomas: Like it's it would be like, I, you know, I'll allow for, maybe it's like, "Oh no, it turns out she actually loves hockey and she talks," and I'll, like, okay, maybe
0:50:45 Lydia: Exactly, because it is political, yes. Yeah. She and Cash Patella are on the same team.
0:50:52 Thomas: Nope, yeah, Nope. It's, well, they are on the same team, but yeah, Fascism.
0:50:54 Lydia: Yeah. Well, yeah, co-ed beer league, yeah. Fascism.
0:50:59 Thomas: Yeah, fascism team, fascism. Yeah, that's saying he's going on Tucker Carlson, like, so you're already, I mean, it's barely, barely better than Tucker Carlson.
0:51:03 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah, all these people whining about this becoming, you know, political, I don't want to make a political, and then you go on
0:51:08 Thomas: Oh, I don't want to make it political. I'm just going to go on Steve Hitler's radio show. Oh my
0:51:12 Lydia: Yeah, alt-right's megaphone basically, yeah, so let's go, let's go check in with him and her hard-hitting questions.
0:51:16 Thomas: God. Great. What, what is he doing on this show? I didn't remember that or I didn' know it
0:51:21 Lydia: No,
0:51:23 Clip: Which is always just the most surreal moment, like you have no idea that it's, it's like we're hockey players and now the president's calling us to congratulate us. Like, just all insane, and it's amazing what that, what that game did, it was such an honor, so cool that the President, United States was watching our game and just, it was, it was a surreal moment.
Did you have any hesitation, because it didn't sound like it, when he said, "You guys want to come to the State of Union, we'll get you on a plane." Yeah, like, it to me it was very charming that there didn't need to be a focus group meeting before you gave your answer. But did you feel any hesitation before you said yes?
No, I mean, just and going off like winning the last few Stanley Cups, like getting invited to the White House, no matter who's there, it's just the greatest honor as an American, one of the greatest honors as an American, so everybody on our team was so excited and honored and shocked to get the invite, and then they said the State of the Union was that night, which I guarantee you nobody on our team's been to, so another really cool, or maybe even ever watched, yeah,
0:52:36 Thomas: Yeah.
0:52:36 Clip: Yeah, yeah, that's it, and then, um, so we had that experience and it was just getting a call, getting a called Sunday to go to that on Tuesday, back in the U.S., being like, "How are we gonna get there?" All right, they're sending Air Force Two, like, it was it couldn't believe it, so, um, just serving a few days, so
0:52:37 Thomas: Yeah.
0:52:40 Lydia: Not wrong. Yeah.
0:52:57 Thomas: Force 2 isn't that the vice president's one? He's probably Like, he's like, "Hey, JD, you're not using your fucking plane, they're gonna use it, okay?
0:52:59 Lydia: It's vice president's JD Vance. Is going commercial back yeah, You and Osha can fly economy back, yeah."
0:53:08 Thomas: Yeah, yeah, you Can either stay wherever the hell, I don't know where you are, I don't, you stay where you are, or just, I guess, ride with them somewhere, but don't take up too much room, freaking JD Vance, god, fuck that guy.
0:53:11 Lydia: Uh,
0:53:22 Clip: President makes this joke about the women's team. And by the way, we've played it on our social media. It's gone totally viral. President Barack Obama made a joke about the men's team when he called the women soccer team after they won. I think it was the World Cup or some big match. But in any event, President Obama did the exact same thing. He did it about the men's team. It seems we have experience of all hockey teams and soccer and sports teams being able to have a friendly laugh at a presidential joke about members of the opposite sex, but with you guys
0:53:24 Thomas: Ha, what was the joke? Yeah.
0:53:42 Thomas: Yeah. Sure. No, sorry,
0:53:56 Clip: Certain people on the left tried to turn it into a capital offense.
0:53:59 Thomas: Sorry, sorry, is she suggesting that the joke is like, "Ew, boys, cooties, we don't want those boys around," like that's, that the way she's putting it is like, yeah, you know, you have just like a little joke at their expense, it's like, no, in either, in both those, I don't know what the Obama thing is, did you look it up
0:54:00 Lydia: Yeah, and I'm trying to figure out what, I'm just looking it up. So from what I can tell, it says he famously joked that the team taught everyone that, quote, playing like a girl means you're a badass.
0:54:33 Thomas: Can't be what she's talking, otherwise, that has nothing to do with anything.
0:54:34 Lydia: I mean, that's all I'm seeing.
0:54:37 Thomas: All right. Well, that is nothing to anything. So that's her example. That's just plain stupid. But maybe there's something we don't know about that was different. But like, if there was, if he's like, oh, we'll have to invite the men, let's say joke would still be the sexism that's normally there. You know what I mean? Like, in either case, it's not like, oh, we can all make. See, like, you get to make jokes about how women's sports suck and then he'll make jokes about how men's sports. It's like, no, the joke in both of those is based on the fact that people are shitty about women's sports. So the joke would be like he's overcompensating or he's doing a joke the other way. That's not really the same. Like it's not like the way she put it where it's like, oh, you know, you know, men joke about women that makes it like it's a cooties thing. Like, yeah, you just joke that you don't like each other or something that's not what it is
0:54:40 Lydia: Yeah yeah yeah Yeah. Yeah. That's literally all I'm saying, though, that Obama said.
0:55:30 Thomas: Okay, so she just made it up, which is probably true. Yeah.
0:55:34 Lydia: Yeah. Well, and in terms of also this idea of like like denigrating women's sports, too, she does that on her main show with Andrew Klavan, which I watched talking about how like no one actually watches women's sport. People watch men's. And why is it a big deal if we celebrate men more than we celebrate women? Because that's what the markets are, basically.
0:55:43 Thomas: God.
0:55:54 Thomas: Yeah. So it's a shitty thing to say. The joke is, the joke only works, Trump's comment only works if it's like he doesn't give a shit about the women. And why would you even invite them? That's the only way the joke is even intelligible. We know that that's what he means. You can't pretend that's not what he needs.
0:55:54 Lydia: Cool. Mm hmm. Yeah. Keep playing, though.
0:56:14 Clip: How did you learn that this was blowing up into something? Some very bizarre people wanted to take offense at. Listen, we're, I was just telling a story this morning about how close we were with the women's team, how we were sharing the same floor on like the third floor the USA building was us in the women team team room or sorry, floor, and uh, like we became super super tight with them over the few weeks. We went to their games, they went to ours, we had like watch parties for other events, um, a lot of people knew each other from before, but getting to know the rest of them, and uh, yeah, like, I think it's just all like completely blown up into something that's just not true because we were uh great huge supporters of them, they were of us, and being able to sweep both gold medals for the first time ever is such an honor, one of the highlights
0:56:21 Thomas: People.
0:56:27 Lydia: He was telling the story that every single one of them told anytime they were asked about this.
0:56:30 Thomas: Yeah.
0:56:40 Thomas: Some of my best friends are women.
0:56:41 Lydia: Yeah.
0:57:02 Lydia: Anyway,
0:57:02 Clip: Honest to God, one of the highlights, the
0:57:03 Lydia: You can stop there. Yeah, so I think this is something that is really frustrating. We mentioned it a little bit before in the show, but it's this idea that like are cheering for the women's team. So then the things that you say behind their backs doesn't matter or that you allow other people say and you laugh at their expense.
0:57:21 Thomas: Or that you allow other people to say. Yeah.
0:57:26 Lydia: Is not a way to excuse away that behavior. Like it just it can't. No one is saying that you aren't cheering for the women's team. No one is Saying that you guys didn't get along. No One is saying That you guys weren't hanging out three in the morning in the cafeteria, you know sharing lava cakes That's like the anecdote that they all like to say. I've heard it so many times now so many times It's very annoying. Um that all is true and accurate, however when the opportunity arose rose, when someone else was ragging on the women's team that you say that you love and respect and admire and appreciate, and have grown to love, you know, as fellow hockey players and stuff, when an opportunity presented itself, when Someone Else was ragged on them, you did nothing. You did nothing in the moment, which, again, I'm going to throw you a bone here. I get it. Okay.
0:57:48 Thomas: Oh, Jesus. That's so annoying. Yeah.
0:57:59 Thomas: Yeah.
0:58:22 Thomas: Yeah, I
0:58:22 Lydia: In the the moment, like I don't, being able to turn that on.
0:58:23 Thomas: Honestly do I can't imagine having the ability to say something in that moment
0:58:28 Lydia: Yeah. I, I'm not here to be mad at you about that.
0:58:28 Thomas: That fast when you're celebrating the most insane gold medal win, like, not, yeah, exactly, I fully, I, like that would have been cool if someone had been like, hey, what do you mean, like imagine how cool that would've been though that person would have been fucking fucking hero oh my God, I would have worshipped that. But, you know, how similar to the bar being low there's, there is a good side of that, which is like, hey, man, opportunity, if any dude wants to not fucking suck, the, the, it's cool that the bar is so low, you get to just not suck. Like when, um, Andy, uh, I think it's Andy something, the tennis player, where someone asked his famous clip where someone asks him, oh, the first American to, or the first, uh, man to do this, and he's like, like, well, no, uh
0:58:33 Lydia: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don, I don' get the joke. Wait, I, don't get it. Yeah Yes, yes. Well,
0:59:08 Thomas: Or the first tennis player to do this he says oh no first man yeah because because the Serena Williams or something yeah William sisters, yeah yeah, if it's simple, but hey, in this day and age, fucking A, I it's appreciated totally
0:59:08 Lydia: No, no. He's, he's the first tennis player to do this. First, yeah first man, because the The Williams sisters both did it. Yeah. Yeah. Amazing. Yeah. But again, I also get it. You don't do it in the moment, but it's been a week and a half now. Like there were so many opportunities for you to come out and clarify and where you stood. And all I'm hearing is that you love and appreciate the women's team. But then also, right.
0:59:38 Lydia: But then Also, like you don't say anything about this and everyone's trying to make it political. What, it's just, it's not good enough, it's not good, and men, I, I know our Wokies that are listening to this, you guys are amazing, you guys are amazing, it is so easy, I'm a conflict averse person, one of the best things that I ever learned was like, if you hear a joke that you don't like and you don't want to call somebody out and say like, like, that's racist or something like that, you can just say, I don't get it, can you explain that to me? Like, just play dumb, just play dumb, and then that puts them in the position where, I mean, and obviously this isn't going to happen with the president of the United States on the phone
0:59:36 Thomas: Wasn't the question yeah yeah would
1:00:15 Lydia: Exactly. It would have been amazing. But that's an easy way, if you find yourself in a situation where someone is saying something you don't like and trying to make a joke, just, you don't have to laugh. You can just be like, oh, sorry, I don't get the joke. Can you explain it to me? And then put them in that position. So good.
1:00:15 Thomas: Have been fucking great though God would have been great.
1:00:30 Lydia: Oh, so good.
1:00:31 Thomas: Yeah. To echo your point and to perhaps expand, isn't it that everyone thinks this was a sign you don't like the women's team, but it is a sign that you sure as hell value the comfort of this other man more than you value that team. You don't value them at all. You are willing to root for them. Sure. Yeah, I them at their word that they all very much rooted for the women's team and they want them to succeed. I believe all that. I believe that they probably think of them mostly as equals. But if in a social situation, just again, picture that you had a black friend. I know it's hard to imagine, Matthew Kachuk, but picture that you had a black friend and also have another friend who is racist and that black friend that you have sees you and this other guy and he makes a horrible racist joke and you laugh and then the guy's like, "Dude, what, what the fuck, your black friend is like," what the f**k would your response be like, "Oh no, you know that I like you and I'm, I'm always, I'm always cool
1:00:37 Lydia: Yeah. Right. Yeah. Yep. Mm-hmm. We
1:01:34 Thomas: With you yeah and I always support you as a friend," you'd be like, "Yeah, okay," but, but, but you're willing to abandon all of that and all of those values the minute that it's this other person comes and says a shitty thing.
1:01:35 Lydia: We go to lunch like I. Yeah.
1:01:48 Thomas: You're not, you're not willing to, and again, forget calling him out. You'RE not even willing to criticize. You'Re even willing to be like after the fact in the safety and the comfort of your own home in this interview or whatever, like, and yeah. And even prepare it. I get it. Cause they're, they're athletes, they're conflicted. They're worried about like, Oh, I don't want people. You could even say like, oh, yeah, I don't think I think that was a not hope. You could Even do a kiss ass fucking MAGA version where you still had some amount of dignity and being like, Yeah, I think he was making a joke. That wasn't I don'T think it was a good joke. He shouldn't have said that. Give me one person. I know I've said it again. Maybe we'll see if we get
1:01:48 Lydia: Because you want to do like a hyuck hyuck with them. Yeah, or even written statement. Just words. Yeah yep.
1:02:17 Lydia: Yeah hmm. No spoilers.
1:02:25 Thomas: There. Give me one percent to at least have the fucking balls to say, Yeah, that wasn't a good thing to say. Hey, that was kind of a shitty thing. I think he was joking. Even if you want to fucking give him the excuses, because I know these are fucking mag idiots. Give him the excuse. Oh, you know, he just likes, he's older guy, likes to make jokes. Even give, I'll even allow for that. If someone will give me a, yeah, no, that's a shitty things. That's to say in any way.
1:02:33 Lydia: Yeah I know. Well you're going to have to keep listening to find out. Next we're going gonna go to Connor Hellebuck, and so I clicked on this interview and I thought it was gonna be like a puff piece because it is on the Winnipeg Jets channel, but she did ask him about this, and so I want to give credit to, I guess, the Jets franchise because they were like, well, this is a question that Connor's going to be facing, so we might as well attack it now, but if you want to to click through, I feel like the thing that he did here really pissed me off, actually.
1:02:52 Thomas: Keep waiting. Oh, Hmm. Oh,
1:03:26 Lydia: Like I I was not pleased.
1:03:26 Thomas: Okay. Let's see.
1:03:29 Clip: American men have won a Olympic gold medal in hockey, and the team has been celebrated, but the team is also faced some criticism since that game and started the post game with the video that came out of comments in the dressing room afterwards and reaction to it. You were there in the room, can you take us through kind of what your reaction to all of this was? Yeah, you know, we were so excited, so like on cloud nine coming in that room, and then and then some things unfolded, and you know, I'm sorry, that that's the way that they unfolded, um, it's it's very unfortunate that the criticism that we're taking for all this because that was not the way we intended it, um, I myself, personally. Personally, and I know,
1:04:06 Thomas: Oh, what, what things? Hmm. Okay. Yeah. Unfortunate. Sorry. What? Imagine if you and I were in an argument, imagine I did something wrong and I'm like, look, I'm sorry for how that, I're sorry for the criticism that you're giving me right now. Like that's nothing, dude. That's literally nothing.
1:04:32 Lydia: Exactly. Empty. Vacuous.
1:04:35 Thomas: That is not even close. You're like, not even, you're not even in the realm of like bad apology, that's still bad, Okay, here we go.
1:04:40 Lydia: It gets worse.
1:04:43 Clip: Entire team, we used the women's gold medal game as motivation for us to win gold. We were very close with them, and we all celebrated together.
1:04:49 Thomas: We're like if a bunch of girls can do it, yeah.
1:04:51 Clip: There was no one more excited for when they won than us. Like, we wanted them to win just as badly.
1:05:01 Clip: It's unfortunate that their win is getting overshadowed right now, because what they did was just incredible. Incredible.
1:05:06 Lydia: No, shut the fuck up.
1:05:11 Clip: Their goalie, Erin, she let in two goals.
1:05:12 Lydia: Stop. Stop, okay, what, the, their win is getting overshadowed, no, Connor, yours is, we still love the women, what the fuck are you talking about, this made me so mad, mad, the way seriously.
1:05:18 Thomas: Yeah. I've never heard you this mad in my life.
1:05:28 Lydia: I I was so pissed off when I heard this, I was like, how dare you, how dare you try and like use women here now as a tool to make people stop going after you guys and asking you guys to be accountable and being like, you guys are overshadowing the women's win, like we should be focused on their win, what the fuck are you talking about, we're mad about your win, it's overshadowing your win, asshole. Jesus Christ.
1:05:45 Thomas: Think think of the women. This, this is the best going I'm here for it.
1:05:56 Lydia: So mad. So he goes on to give props to the goalie for the women's team. I'm just going to say this. We don't have to listen to freaking Connor Hellebuck anymore. But he says, you know, she had a 98 save percentage. Amazing. He said, Erin, she led in two goals in the entire tournament, has a 98 save percentage, somewhat. In the comments on this says he say the women's goalie only led in two goals all tournament and finished with a 98 save percentage. Wow, very cool of him to acknowledge that, maybe she should have been considered for the Presidential Medal of Freedom along with Connor.
1:06:25 Thomas: Yeah.
1:06:26 Lydia: That would have been impressive seeing both of them receive it at the same time, and I was like, oh, snaps for that, but like, fuck that, I'm, I mean, you guys know I don't swear very often, sometimes this show gets me going. This is maybe the maddest I've been ever. I don't know. I find this disgusting and manipulative. And if I were president, I would take away his Medal of Freedom, which he shouldn't have gotten. That's so stupid. Anyway, fucked.
1:06:43 Thomas: Yeah. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, no, I'm glad you pointed that out. That's such a yeah. It's like, hey, don't do this to the women. You should stop criticizing me because it hurts the women and it's
1:07:02 Lydia: Yeah. So dumb. Everyone has been singing the praises of the women's team in regardless of the bullshit that you guys have been doing, everyone, including myself, has always been like, but I love the women. USA women's hockey turned off their comments and I found one where the comments were open and I was like, hey, you guys don't have to turn off your comments, we love you guys. This is about the men. Feel free to leave your comments on
1:07:08 Thomas: A great point yeah it's just so it's all it, nobody has a will nobody, it's, oh, it's unfortunate that that fucking bird flew in there when we're like, what are you talking, you, they talk, they just, again, it's like a kid shit his diaper, like a like a natural event occurred. Oh yeah, it's a shame that when we were celebrating, the you know, the lights power went out, it's like that's how they talk about it. It's unfortunate, who could, yeah, who, I mean, and then it's unfortunate that we were criticized, really, how about that was a shitty thing to say there's so many layers of better that you could be without even approaching being actually good and that's how far down they are. Like, there are so many better ways they could have been and it still would have been mediocre as fuck
1:07:32 Lydia: Yeah not listening Yeah. Yeah. That reaction might have been, in my opinion, the worst. But I do want to go next to Jack Hughes, because I think this might have been the first sort of response. And again, we were kind of singing his praises a little bit, you know, the Hughes brothers and that sort of story. And so I was eager to hear what he had to say after all of this. And I left left very disappointed.
1:08:22 Thomas: That's pretty bad
1:08:40 Lydia: Quite disappointed. Yeah.
1:08:39 Thomas: Man spoilers yeah
1:08:45 Clip: Yeah, we're excited. Mean, anytime, like, everything is so political. We're just, we're athletes. We are so proud to represent the U.S. And when you get the chance to go to the White House, meet the president, you know, we are proud to be Americans. And, you know that's so patriotic. So, no matter what your views are, we, we super excited to go to the White house tomorrow and just be a part of that. How do you feel about the women not going? They got, they got busy schedules too. I mean, we, I know we're getting like, everyone's giving us backlash for all the social media stuff today, but it's so negative. People are so negative out there and they're trying to find a reason to just like put people down and make like, make something out of almost nothing.
But you know, we are relationship with them over the course of being in the Olympic village. We like, I think we were so tight with their group in our group. After we won the gold medal, we're in the cafeteria at 3:30 in the morning with them and then we go right from that we pack our bags and we're on the bus. So you guys, like, people are so negative about things, but I think everyone in that locker room, you know, knows how much we support them, how proud we are of them, and we feel the same, the same way we feel about them. We know they feel that way about us. Definitely, we're
1:09:13 Thomas: Yeah no no no no there's almost nothing. I
1:09:23 Lydia: No.
1:09:39 Lydia: We know.
1:09:41 Thomas: Haven't heard this, hold on, well they shouldn't yeah that's pretty too, jeez they're so negative and it's like they're making and they're making it out of almost nothing I like how he hesitated, they're bringing out, it, almost nothing he almost said nothing, but he's like, I, I should give him a little, little, little bit that's terrible
1:10:00 Lydia: Oh, man. Yeah, everyone's so negative. They're just looking to find something negative. Almost nothing. Yeah? Yeah. And it's just so frustrating, again, because, we mentioned it's Jack Hughes, Quinn Hughes, but also that their mother, Ellen Hughes, has been involved. I mean, she played for the U.S. women's team she's involved in the Olympics. She's involved and the PWHL, obviously been a hockey mom her whole, motherhood journey as well. And I was really disappointed with her comments too. So I'll send that to you. We might as well play those too
1:10:28 Thomas: Yeah, and he's involved in it now, yeah
1:10:43 Clip: That's getting a little traction, a video that came out afterwards. It shows the men's team talking to the president of the United States and he was inviting them to the State of the Union and all that. And then he said a comment that gained attention. He said, I must tell you, we're to have to bring the women's team, you know that? And the room kind of laughs. And he added, I do believe I probably would be impeached. He was sort of joking through this.
But you're cheering on both teams, how did that comment land for you? Well, I think at the end of the day it's just about the country and the moment that these players, both the men and women, can bring so much unity to a group, into a country people that cheered on that, don't watch hockey people that have politics on one side or on the other side and that's all both the men's team and the women's team care about. If you could see what we see from the inside and the men and women sharing, you know, dorms, dorm rooms and halls and flex floors and the camaraderie and the synergy and the way the women cheered on the men and the men cheered on the women, that's what it's all about.
1:11:20 Thomas: Certainly not doing that just mainly the one Christ
1:11:46 Clip: And the other things they cannot control. They care about humanity, they care about unity, and they care about the country. Totally. Love, don't you love that Ellen's horse from all that story?
1:11:55 Lydia: I know really
1:11:46 Thomas: Oh really, oh shut the fuck up the fuck up. Oh, oh, great comments two fucking dudes
1:11:59 Lydia: Disappointing it feels like it feels like damage control for the United States, almost like, like this weird apology tour, without apology
1:12:14 Thomas: These people are conservative so they want to just say, oh, it's all nothing, it's just something out of nothing
1:12:20 Lydia: I don't think Hoda is, because like, Hoda's filling in for um yes yes yes, yes or
1:12:23 Thomas: I don't, meant, I meant the hockey players, the hockey players are conservative, so they want to they can't ever say anything bad about their lord and savior. That's like the best explanation. Otherwise, you're just a sexist, I guess. You know, what makes me even more mad. And I think this'll be just a me thing. Probably. I don't want to hear all the fucking jokes. The SNL thing drives me nuts. It drives me guts that whatever they did at a bunch of places. Oh, and then they come there to the men and women together. Now we're going to make a joke about how, Hey, and I guess we'll invite the men.
1:12:59 Thomas: That's not, that's nothing. That you, after the racist friend leaves whose joke you laughed at that was horribly racist, that's you making nice your black with friend afterward and being like, oh, I hope I can make a joke at my expense. That's not important. What I need is for you to criticize your racist friend. That is what I need.
1:13:17 Lydia: I think what's really interesting, and I actually, I saw this commented, um, on a different podcast, I think it's called Sports Gossip Podcast on YouTube, and they were talking about how, the Olympics is an NBC property, um, for broadcasting, SNL is an NPC property, then the exact same thing happened, uh, Hillary Knight went on Jimmy Fallon with Jack and Quinn Hughes as an NPCI property, so they're basically having the women escort these men around, ground for, like I said, an apology tour without an apology.
1:13:51 Lydia: It's this weird damage control that doesn't actually do anything, and they're hoping that it meets the needs of middle America, basically.
1:13:47 Thomas: Yeah. Yeah, I think it does do something. That probably what, yeah, that is probably why it makes me so mad is I think people look at this as something, oh, okay, maybe these men, again, because they're so, all we want to do is have it be okay for the men. We just want these men to be okay. We want so desperately. So, oh they're willing to make a joke about, that must mean they're actually cool. No, that's just another easy fucking thing for them to do. That's easy.
1:14:00 Lydia: Yeah. Right. They're hanging out. Yeah, yeah.
1:14:24 Lydia: I do want to take a couple moments because I found a couple interviews from some of these USA men's hockey team members.
1:14:29 Thomas: God, at this point, point, I'll take a fucking AHL player who's not even involved, give me somebody somebody to say yeah, that was a shitty thing the president said, that sucked.
1:14:35 Lydia: Yeah. Well, let me first shout out because I told you about this when I saw it. Wenberg from the Sharks, his wife was like the only person I saw that posted about this on her stories calling out the men's team. She basically like reposted other people's thoughts and stuff. But like most other people were avoiding it completely. And I sent her a message and I was was like, hey, obviously you don't know me, but big Sharks fan for a long time, um, and just so happy to see you speak out in this way no no but she also just recently announced she's pregnant with her third kid, so um I think she's a lot of stuff going on, but but for me I was like, at least somebody's saying something, of course it has to be the wife of somebody but but then I saw saw a couple of these guys did have okay takes. They, yeah, it's much better than what we've seen. So I'm going to start with Jeremy Swayman.
1:14:47 Thomas: Wow Yeah.
1:15:03 Thomas: Man, did she like it or anything oh nice yeah thank you somebody yep yep fucking take it at this point, Jesus. Oh, I know Swimming, I don't like him, that's so, now I'll have to reverse everything I thought I knew
1:15:31 Lydia: He has a nice moment. We're going to end with something better, but yeah, but there's a nice movement in here.
1:15:33 Thomas: He's not the word, goalies just suck in general, honestly, goalies are nuts, but but okay, fine, maybe I'll change, maybe I guess change my opinion on Swayman, all right
1:15:41 Lydia: Okay.
1:15:43 Clip: There was some negative reaction to that and to the post-game video. Just what is your reaction to, to that? Yeah, we should have reacted differently. We know that we are so excited for the women's team. We have so much respect for the men's team and to share that gold medal with them is something that we're forever grateful for. And, uh, you know, now that we're home, we get to share that together forever and see the incredible support that we have from the USA and sharing in this incredible gold medal, Jeremy.
1:16:13 Lydia: I shared this because of literally we should have reacted differently.
1:16:13 Thomas: Jesus Yeah. That's the the first thing we've gotten
1:16:18 Lydia: And it's the first sentence out of his mouth, mouth, and so I want to give props to that because like it can be that easy
1:16:22 Thomas: Fuck and he was the backup USA goalie, right?
1:16:26 Lydia: Think so, so it it's minor, but I I want to give you know him some
1:16:29 Thomas: God so far it's a fucking a plus on the grade curve, you got a perfect score relative to everybody else, Jesus fucking Christ.
1:16:38 Lydia: McAvoy went a little bit further so let me share this with you
1:16:41 Thomas: Real oh that's surprising, okay would have thought that he sucked, let's see
1:16:42 Lydia: Yeah are literally the only two
1:16:46 Clip: I think, um, you know, just certainly sorry for how we responded to it in that moment, um you no, things that just happened really quick there, um, and and if you know the men's team and if you no the relationships that we have, the amount of time that we've spent, you know, with the women's team, how we've supported them, it's certainly not reflective of how we feel and look at them and their accomplishments, um, what they did was unbelievable, you know, kind of like I said, we had this third floor there, um, you know, in the village, and it was kind of, you know, some of the women's team there the trainer's room where everybody was at all times, so men and women's teams, like, just made friends for life with them, we supported them the same way that they supported us, so we share this together, I know that, and I know that I'm pretty confident they, they know how I feel about them and and what they've been able to accomplish, and you know, the way that they did it too, with how dominant they played. I think America should be so proud of them for their accomplishment, for sure.
1:16:52 Thomas: Thank you
1:16:53 Lydia: Yeah.
1:17:00 Thomas: Don't need this you're right every single time fucking okay, I'll give that the the top, that's that's the best you, that's all, oh I thought you were building to Something, uh, you're
1:17:47 Lydia: The best I've got. That'S it. Oh, no. Charlie McAvoy was the best I could find. I literally pulled the entire roster. I was searching on YouTube for hours, for hours.
1:17:58 Thomas: Telling me that the two best example were both on the Boston and fucking Bruins. Jesus Christ. What have we come to?
1:18:03 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah, I know. I know how do you feel about that? That's like shaking your entire world but yeah I, I
1:18:07 Thomas: Not good. Not good, but like, I mean, I'll be fucking Jesus again on the curve. Like, thank you for saying, Hey, not good. How we reacted.
1:18:16 Lydia: Know and the ones that I, right it
1:18:16 Thomas: Thank you. Wow. Really? It wasn't just unfortunate that people criticized you. That's not what was bad. It was that you reacted badly.
1:18:23 Lydia: Was about you and your actions
1:18:25 Thomas: Wow, so you did something. Oh, okay. I didn't know you were involved in this situation. That is the first time someone has actually been involved in the situation before it was just stuff happened around us.
1:18:36 Lydia: Yeah. I want to end my video, uh, journey with you all, by hearing from the captain of the USA women's hockey team, Hillary Knight, because, when she, she was asked about this, she had the only response that I think women should have to respond with.
1:18:37 Thomas: God.
1:18:53 Clip: No, I just thought the joke was distasteful and unfortunate. And I think just the way women are represented, it's a great teaching point to really shine light on how women should be championed for their amazing feats. And now I have to sort of sit, and anybody has to sit in front of you and explain someone else's behavior. It's not my responsibility, so, but what is, is shifting the focus and shifting the narrative of this amazing accomplishment that we all did together. And granted, the men's and the women's team did it together, and that is super special. It's never been done in our program's history.
It's something we're extremely proud about, but these women are amazing, and whatever is going on shouldn't never outshine or minimize their work and our success on the world stage. This was the best American women's hockey team, the best American team we've ever put together on a world stage, when the lightest, when the, the lights have been the brightest ever. And so I think everybody felt that, you know, going through the tournament, and I want to celebrate, I want people to be remembered for that. I want the legacy of this, this team to be remembered. And so that's what I'm trying to, you know, shift the narrative on and really focus and championing what we've done and what we accomplished the last two and a half weeks together.
1:19:16 Lydia: Exactly.
1:19:35 Lydia: It's USA hockey talking points right there, but yeah.
1:20:15 Lydia: Ah, just, just great.
1:20:15 Thomas: Yeah, that's great. Yeah.
1:20:17 Lydia: And I think, all I that is expected of women in this moment or any moment where you find yourself in that kind of position is like, you know, now I'm being asked to explain someone else's behavior, and it's Not my responsibility. End of story. End of story, the men should be held accountable. And it's not on the women to help them be held accountable. That's not on the women's team at all. They're not part of this. Unfortunately, that's not what we're seeing. That is not what we saw on SNL. That is not what we saw in Jimmy Fallon. We're seeing kind of, these media appearances coupled with damage control for USA Hockey as an entire entity, shared men's and women's side, so
1:20:28 Thomas: Yeah well A hundred percent, hundred% a of all that. Great to hear that she said that and it just really showed, it shows the men's values, not in way they think, know, they think that, oh no, I don't, I'm not really a secret hater of the women's U.S. hockey hockey team? No one thinks that. That just shows that you don't find it important enough to actually even muster the slightest criticism of your fucking Lord and Savior, Jesus Trump.
1:21:20 Lydia: Yeah.
1:21:21 Thomas: Even what she said was so tame. I'm not criticizing her, but like they could have managed that pretty easily. Yeah, the joke was, did anyone even say the joke was distasteful? That's so minor. Did any, none of the men could even say the joke was distasteful, at least you know, those two fucking Boston goddamn Bruins, Jesus Christ, in the middle of probably being racist pieces, you know, I'm just kidding, not a Huge fan of Boston Bruins usually, but uh, they uh, but no, I'll give them credit for that, wow.
1:21:44 Lydia: Yeah. Just Taking accountability for their behavior and that they should have acted differently and that they're sorry that they didn't, I mean, it's Bare minimum, but look how easy it is, look how high you can raise in our ranks, USA Hockey members.
1:21:51 Thomas: God. Bare minimum About to elect them woke president of feminism, that's how, I mean, We do have to also do another positive thing, which is, I, which I teased the beginning, which this is the kind of thing and this is something I'll try not fucking crying again, but like, this is something, when I talked about the pride tape thing I've got a year or two ago, whatever that was, it's something that really gets me where, know, know for so long, and sorry to be repetitive, but it's, I just think it, for so long I think people rightfully mocked corporate pride, and it, and rightfully so, again, rightfully, sell, like it is like You
1:22:09 Lydia: Yeah, exactly. Yeah, they're
1:22:42 Thomas: Know But it, but it is not about that, it's about that as an indicator, and When you start to see things go from corporate pride to actually, fuck all these people, let's fire all the trans people, let's fire all They keep, like, when you start seeing it go from, well, as a corporation we here at Target Corp, fucking, we were going to put rainbows on our thing. Like, yes, it's nothing. Yes, it's corporate, whatever, but holy shit. Is it way better to have that empty bullshit than not only nothing discrimination.
1:22:42 Lydia: Not wrong. Mm-hmm.
1:22:55 Lydia: Yeah.
1:23:11 Thomas: And I think that like I, for one, you know, it's easy for me to say, cause I'm not like a target of pretty much any of this. I've been, there's, there's ways that I think our lives intersect certainly with some of this stuff, but, widely speaking, I'm Not the Target of Anything. It was easy for me to overlook how nice we had it.
1:23:08 Lydia: Then nothing. Yeah, yeah.
1:23:28 Lydia: Mm-mm.
1:23:29 Thomas: And I think we shouldn't, we shouldn'T do that. And it just makes me that much more appreciative and again, in a way that is like the bar is low, but you know, when you're in like the worst place in the world and someone comes and, and, and wants to be like, kind of nice, it's like, fucking take it. Just, we just take it if you're, if you'RE getting rescued out of a fucking death camp and the guy rescues you kind of sucks and smells, like just fucking take it. You know what I mean? Like, it's just like, you're going to be so happy to see that person, you know, it doesn't matter.
1:23:47 Lydia: Yeah.
1:23:59 Lydia: So you would deal with some body odor. Like, it's going to be okay.
1:24:01 Thomas: Yeah. So the drive home from the death camp will smell A little. I know I exaggerate, but it's, but I mean, it, it it's not the biggest exaggeration to say that when it, when you're in a climate and atmosphere of fascism and you're on the road as a country to stuff that goes toward that kind of crap.
1:24:05 Lydia: Exactly. Yeah.
1:24:20 Thomas: It doesn't mean, I'm not saying we will. I'm not saying were there. I am not saying any of that. But I am saying we are down that road. We are not at the start of that road I'll say that. We are not the start of the road of fucking camps for LGBTQ people. We're not at the start that road and it's fucking horrifying.
1:24:35 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah.
1:24:37 Thomas: It's absolutely there are camps for migrants. There are camps for immigrants we're there we're getting there so, you know, in one sense, it's kind of an exaggeration I'm making, but like also not, you know, it'S like, I don't care. Like if you're going to come out in any small way in favor of pride or just not being a piece of shit, you Know, like, God damn, I'LL take it. I just speak for myself, but Like,
1:24:41 Lydia: Mm-hmm. Yep. Yeah, I mean, we're seeing version of, identification you of trans people on, like, public documents in, what was that, Kansas, where they just passed law the that it has to be your sex at birth on your ID now, and they all have to turn in their driver's licenses immediately and get new ones reissued. I mean, it's just like, yeah, just stepping towards this dystopian nightmare that I think 15 years ago, none of us really thought that we would be in this spot.
1:25:27 Thomas: Yeah. Oh, I was so goddamn naive. I was actively 15 years ago, maybe a little more 16, 17. I WAS actually actively a part of the problem. I wasn't homophobic. I wasn't. That's one thing I very quickly changed on as a person, but I was still actively part of problem. And I hope to never be again, but actively part OF problem in that I minimized how fucking dangerous this stuff is. It's you can't, you can'T let this fucking shit in for a second, you know, just not even an inch. And, and the sexist joke, I mean, I guess it's branched off a little from that, but like I see it as kind of one in the same with how, queer the women's team is. I see a lot of those issues kind of intertwined, you know?
1:25:30 Lydia: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah,
1:26:04 Thomas: And, and the reason, actually, the reason I started talking about that was because of the good thing I wanted to play, which was, uh, I will, I Will Brag About My Sharks. But this is, this is the 27th of February. So this is like, right around this time, right? When was the, I forget when the game, the championship game was, let's see. The championship game, I'm women's was the 19th. Men's I think was a week after or so. So yeah, right after probably. And this is a, again, it's, I guess it's not directly related to like the men, women thing, but this this is something that didn't even really occur to me because I again I think I have the privilege of not thinking too hard about it, but they've changed Pride all the sports teams had Pride, and again it's one of those things that, holy shit, I appreciate that they had it, and now they don't. Now they just don't even fucking bother.
1:26:04 Lydia: Of course. Yeah. Yeah. Mm hmm, boy. Yeah.
1:26:44 Thomas: What they do have is "Hockey Is for Everyone," which is the fucking White Lives Matter of Pride. Oh, it's for, for everyone. Okay. All right. Fine. It's a C fucking minus. It's an D plus. Wouldn't be so bad if we started there. It wouldn't been so bad what they had done. And I think that the context matters. If the context was there was no such thing as any Pride anything in sports, in NHL kind of thing.
1:26:50 Lydia: Yeah. Right.
1:27:10 Thomas: And then they're like, let's do a hockey for everyone. And there will be some rainbows. They'll like, okay, great. But no, they had Pride Night. They had that. And they decided let's take that back, those queer people have too many things, let's dial it back. And now they have "Hockey Is for Everyone." Cool, fucking great. But the San Jose Sharks, I'll read the text of post. This, Alex Wenberg and Tyler Toffoli were behind the bench tonight for our fourth annual Pride scrimmage between the team, Teal Front Office, Team Trans, and the SF Earthquakes, Earthquakes. Sorry, this, I'm, stuff like really affects me now. And the SF Earthquake, which is the soccer team, right? But it's the SF Earthquaken LGBTQ plus team. So they had like a fun, and they called it a Pride scrimmage, which I love because the NHL just says "Hockey Is for Everyone." And they, you know, the Sharks did include that as like the the, heading or whatever,
1:27:13 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah. And then they rewound. Yeah, Yeah,
1:27:57 Thomas: But it's like, they called it a Pride scrimage. They didn't abandon it. And these are, these are two major players. These are two major players for the Sharks.
1:27:57 Lydia: Sure.
1:28:04 Clip: Mean, obviously it's a great to watch the game of hockey, we will be supportive of all this and, uh, I mean the fact too, like, this community to be accepted for everyone here, and it's just something, something that we really would like to be a part of. That had a lot of fun doing it as well, seeing all the other guys here, so it's great. Yeah, it was a lot fun, um, seeing some of the, some of players I met them previously last year, so good to see them again and, and meet some new players. It was a lot of fun. Favorite part was probably having the Earthquakes score the first goal, they were pumped, so it's a lot fun, and, you know, great night.
1:28:04 Lydia: Yeah,
1:28:42 Thomas: This is, again, set the bar as hockey interviews are very bad. But I want to point something else out. This was a day off for the team. They didn't have to be here. I know it probably sounds, every hockey player sounds like they're being held at gunpoint. That's just how they sound. Don't worry. Worry. This is, this is actually a really good example because the team was off. They didn't have to be here. This wasn't a team function. This Wasn't that they, they did this. They went and did this, they went and supported and coached that, you know, they do a thing where it's like, they coach the teams, you Know? And so they, one of them, that's why he says like, Oh, it was cool. The earthquakes score. Cause he was coaching that team. You know, it's a fun thing. It's something they went out of their way to do. And it's, it's just so nice.
1:28:45 Lydia: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, good people.
1:29:22 Thomas: The bar is low and these gentlemen cleared it by a lot. Oh, man, so frustrating. It's so fucking unjust. It just is so unjust that it's unfortunate. It's unfortunate what happened and that everyone's mad at us. Fuck. You like to point out, I know it's, it's an easy point that I made online, but, but the diagram of people who about trans people being in sports because it's going to ruin sports and the people who actually fucking watch one of the greatest women's sporting events in the history of our Earth. Well, I guess I did it the opposite way. They're separate, complete circles. There's not normally you phrase it. So they're one circle.
1:29:33 Lydia: Yeah. Yeah.
1:29:57 Thomas: I decided to play it a little harder mode. They're different. They're not in together at all. There's no weird.
1:29:58 Lydia: You Know a voice that's been very absent from this who strongly believes in women in sports and how you important, important that is, is Riley Gaines. Zero comment, zero comment.
1:30:14 Thomas: Yeah. Yeah, you would think they'd be like, hey, I care so much about women's sports that I don't support our president, the most powerful person that we've elected at the top of our country. I don't support him making a joke that's essentially like, fuck these women, get back in the kitchen, stop playing hockey.
1:30:25 Lydia: But it's a women's gold medal, you know, so it's worth less, yeah.
1:30:29 Thomas: Yeah, fuck you.
1:30:30 Lydia: No, gold is gold, baby.
1:30:30 Thomas: Fuck you fake concerned people. You do not give a shit about women sports. Never did. Ugh, frustrating. All right, well, that ended up being a double episode, but it was worth it. We so frustrating, um, and I just really don't think people like we don't, we don't hold their feet to the fire and I, what I'm dying, what I'm screaming out for, what I'm dying for, give me a normy, give me a normie, give me someone in media somewhere who's semi am I something? Give me someone who's, who has a, has a name. You don't have to turn into a wokest.
You don't Have to turn into a wokey, you know, you Don't have To use fucking talk about like intersectional feminist. You Don't Have To do any of that stuff. Give me someone with a name with clout. Who's going to just be human use humanity. You know, it's so easy. Imagine if the, any of these big interviewers on any of the shows, not like the big, we're not like the obscure hockey ones, but like, like a good example of someone who has an actual name. I don't know who, I don't watch fucking mainstream media. Cause probably
1:30:41 Lydia: Worth it.
1:31:29 Lydia: Are
1:31:29 Thomas: For this reason, but give me somebody who's just like, hey, for example, like my daughter plays sports and boy, that really hurt my heart to hear the president, say, know, joke, like he wouldn't even want to invite the women's team. That just hurts my heart. That would be really helpful right now, you cause unfortunately there's so much poison in the fucking information ecosystem that any signal anyone has that they're like woke or progressive, it just, they're, they're, they're just 60. I know 70% of the country isn't going to listen to them. It's not even 50, it's like 70, that's how poisoned it is. Anyone who's at all identified with like woke or whatever. So just give me a normal person to be a human and just come from a pure standpoint of like, boy, that's, that's not very nice. Be just, it's like, just be decent, but actually be firm. That's the thing, be decent but be firm about it. Yeah, don't accept, and I'm imagining a man because I need a man to fucking step up.
1:32:19 Thomas: To your point, to Hillary Knight's point, it's not on these women. It's on men to step up actually hold someone's feet to the fire. But you can do it in a gentle way. You can do in a compassionate way, but just be insistent. What do you mean unfortunate? Because you had control over your reaction, right? Yeah. So you could have, that wasn't unfortunate. You could have controlled it. And actually you have control over what you're saying now, right?
1:32:26 Lydia: Mm hmm. Mm hm. Yeah.
1:32:40 Thomas: Yeah. So, so, okay. So maybe not in the moment.
1:32:42 Lydia: So if there if there was something that like you feel like you didn't say then, but you'd like to say now, like, like please, by all means.
1:32:45 Thomas: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Exactly. Something like, give me something like that, you know, and we just don't, I don't see it. Maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see it dog shit. All. Well, thanks so much for listening, everyone. Thanks hun for going through all those shitty statements and being as mad as I've ever heard you, not going to lie, slightly turned on, uh, that's a good way to go out.
1:32:54 Lydia: Yeah, I've looked at a lot of this stuff and I haven't seen it either. So yeah. Oh, boy. Yeah? You know what? I am too about myself. So I don't know what that means. But I'm gonna go process that I think.
1:33:17 Thomas: Uh, we just lost everyone. No, it's okay. Uh. So much fun. And, uh. Yeah. It's just important stuff. You know, it's just, it was good to get some stuff off my chest. I know you too. And.
1:33:30 Lydia: Yeah. I could not stop thinking about this.
1:33:31 Thomas: Yeah, just infuriating. So thanks so much. Wokies. Thanks for supporting. Share the show with somebody thanks for listening. We'll see you next time.
1:33:32 Lydia: Yeah.
1:34:00 Thomas: Opportunity if any dude wants to not fucking suck about to elect them woke president of feminism that's
1:34:05 Lydia: The fuck up asshole. Jesus Christ. You wanting me to say more
1:34:18 Thomas: No, sorry. I'm just trying to stop crying. Heard you, not going to lie, slightly turned on, uh, that's
1:34:18 Lydia: Oh okay oh hun Yeah? You know what? I am too about myself.
