Some More News Is COMPLETELY WRONG About Spider-Man Brand New Day

I cannot stop thinking about Cody from Some More News's video in which he could not stop thinking about Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Cody is INCREDIBLY sure that you're an idiot incapable of watching movies or consuming art if you don't agree with his conception of what the ending of Brand New Day meant. The problem is... Cody gets about a billion things wrong and his arguments are terrible.

0:00:00 Thomas: And welcome to Serious Inquiries Only, I think. I think this is also a bonus. Okay, so here's the thing. Obviously have a lot of things I'm trying to get done right now, but fellow who have ADHD may relate. Something caught ahold of my brain and I can't let go until I get it out. I can't stop thinking about it and it's really, I figure rather than fight it and make it really hard to finish the work I need to finish, why not just do it and the work I need to finish and have a much easier time. And so I ran it by the patrons, patreon.com/seriouspod to see if you folks might be interested. And it actually had, I mean, maybe people who weren't interested didn't comment, but for, know, it's pretty rare. It had like a universal uh permission out of patrons so doing a patron bonus here and I'll tell you what it's about in a moment but I also may end up just releasing it to everybody because I think I'm going to do a video and I'll tell you why right now when I tell you the thing that it is. So I just the other day I finally, Lydia and I finally got to go see the new Spider -Man with the kids. That's one of the Marvel, I've never been a big Marvel guy, you know, like some of them, but the Spider -Mans I do really like. I just like Tom Holland. Like Zendaya in that role as well. I just think those movies are better than pretty much all of the other ones. And I don't know, I Just, I've always liked them I have a soft spot for them so we were excited to go see it I really liked the last one I know that a lot of it was kind of nostalgia bait which we can talk about but I also just think it was good it was nostalgia bait that worked but also a good movie around that and uh you know it seems like critics agree these are both that one and this one actually both pretty well reviewed I mean um high ratings so these are uh I don't know why I'm even saying this because it seems as though everybody likes these movies which is good I think they're good I just so happen to see a random comment I don't even know where it was some random comment uh on facebook or something that somebody referenced that Some More News, which is a show I I've seen from time to time on youtube and I've always thought really highly of and I like uh a video about the spider -man ending and just seen that movie I thought, oh, that's interesting. And I was just curious what the take was. Went to the channel, I turned it on and a really interesting video. Cody, what's his name from some more news. Like I said, I've always been a big fan. I think it's a really great channel. I Think he's very talented, very smart, very funny. And, you know, I know he has writers and stuff who work on it. I'm not like a super dedicated fan, so I don't know too much about it, but every time I've come across him I like it and I like his content and stuff seem to pretty much agree with him so it was interesting to see the structure of the video is everybody's bad at watching movies and a lot of it I agree with but his centerpiece of it the thing I perked up about was that everybody was getting the ending to spider -man wrong the the the brand new day one and I this is news to me I did I had just seen the movie so I barely had time to think of it I kind of thought about it but I hadn't seen any you know I hadn'T really cared enough to like look up any theories or anything um he comes down so hard on people for having a different conclusion on this ending and he he might be be right but the problem is his examples and evidence of it is all really bad it's extremely bad he just gets a bunch of stuff wrong and I'm not even like a big fan or anything but I do like these movies and I just couldn't stop thinking about it and I realized all these things he'd gotten wrong and then I had a kind of an epiphany about the movie that I'm excited to share because I haven't really seen it shared then again I haven'T looked so it's possible everybody already already knows this, but I feel like if they did, then maybe Cody would have mentioned it. But anyway, uh, I haven't looked anything up. I just thought of it on my own. I'm excited to share that with you. So anyway, that's what this bonus or, well, gosh, I don't know if I'll squeeze it into one. I'll try. That's what, this is going to be about. Um. This is a little intro that I'm doing. That's, that's for the podcast here but after this I'm gonna get on video and that's where the video is gonna start for uh so forgive me if I reset a little bit for that but I wanted to do it on video because the thing I'm responding to is video and think I people might want to see it and so I'm going to put it in the same place that it is and we'll see if anyone sees it but thank uh Thank you to the patrons and everybody for being flexible. This is not what was on the agenda. I'm still finishing up the episode that I really want to get out about Defund the Police and that whole thing. One of those that just took that extra time and dedication. Working on it now. We'll have it out very soon. But this was just like, oh my God, I need to get this off my chest first. So anyway, I'm not sure if I'm taking a commercial break. I'm not sure if I'm on the main channel, but I'm going to take a something break and then jump on actual video for YouTube. I have to get this out of my chest. I can't stop thinking about it. If you're seeing this, I'm guessing you're familiar, but I'll do a quick reset uh some more new is that channel which I've always liked I still like it's a good channel uh they did a video recently title of which is how did everyone become so bad at watching movies and as you see here from this frame it's also, so can anyone be normal about movies anymore? So a couple of different shots at title there. And the point of which being that people are bad at watching movies and are missing all kinds of things. And the kind of key exhibit for him was the ending of Spider -Man Brand New Day. And goes really hard on it. Now, say, I'm down too hard on Cody here being extremely condescending and sarcastic toward the people he views as not getting this right. I've Um, been there, like I've Been doing this long enough to know for one, it's a lot of it's for comedic purposes, but I do get the sense that he genuinely feels this way. For two, I, can totally relate to having done this, like gone really hard on something, maybe uh, play it up a little bit for the sake of comedy. Just hits really badly when you're wrong, when you do that. It's It's fine when you're right, but when you are wrong, you have a risk of becoming Bill Maher. No, I shouldn't even say that. I don't want to compare Cody. Bill Maher fucking sucks. Like of reasons Bill Maer is so fucking insufferable is because he's an idiot and he's wrong about everything, but he does it with a tone of how could anyone be so fucking stupid as to think anything other than what Bill Maier thinks. Now I already, I'm immediately taking back that comparison for Cody. I don t mean to. I like Cody. I think he's great. And merely the danger that you run into when you're a content creator and you go really hard on something. If run the risk. And I speak for myself too. We run the risks of like really pissing people off when we get something wrong and are super duper sarcastic and arrogant it. I know this happened to me before sure I'm sure I've made people mad by being really sarcastic about something that people view me being wrong about um I actually I'm not doing this as like a sort of takedown other than it's actually to me how hard Cody went on this particular point about the ending of Spider -Man Brand New Day and how much he got wrong like got so many things wrong he can't stop thinking about it. So I got, I need to point it out. Okay. Is the video that I have up there. That's the cover for it and a great video there's a lot of stuff I agree with in it the uh part about spider -man is you 20 of it maybe at most might be less um so I you know a lot Of the video I agree With he talks about you nostalgia he talks About you marvel movies to kind of ruin movies and I have always kind of agreed with that I don't think they shouldn't exist or anything and I get why people like them I like a lot of them, but it also, I think, undoubtedly has had a bad effect on movies. Have had a Bad Effect on movies for many reasons. I think Cody hits those reasons really well. I also think the things he points out about how wrong a lot of the execs or whoever's making these decisions, how wrong they are about what's going to work is really interesting because it just points out how much they probably just don't give a shit about movies. And I agree with all that. That. So I'm just, just that this isn't like a takedown or anything. I agree with a lot of the video. I'm ultimately getting to the point here to the Spider -Man point that all waiting for, but it gets there as he talks, about ambiguity. He talks about particularly Inception, he talks about the spinning top famously at the end of that. And he talks About how that's an ending with genuine ambiguity. And yes, it it's supposed to be. You met people who who who can't handle ambiguity and they want to try to form the theory as to what the real in quotes answer is on that. And I share Cody's exasperation with that because it's like, that's not, it's not the point. There is no real, there's no real answer. When The you look at artistically what Nolan was trying to do, the point he was tryingto make was to make that an ambiguous ending like once you see, like ,that's the artistic point of it, it becomes kind of silly to ask like, oh, but what is the real truth? Was it wobbling? Is it not going to wobble? It's like that's the point is that he wanted to make something that was ambiguous. And I love that. I think it's super cool. And Cody draws a distinction between that and these scenes at the end of Marvel movies that become really popular, where it more of a teaser. Like he brings up the example of Magneto at the End of One of the fucking XMN movies. I don't know. Seen, I think I saw them all just, you know, COVID was a weird time. I watched a lot of, a lot of superhero stuff just to, just to feel comforted, but I don'T remember most of it. But the end of one of those things Magneto kind of moves a metal piece after he already lost his powers and Cody makes the point that like that's not really ambiguous that's a teaser it's not and yet people still treat it as ambiguous they're still theorizing and doing that kind of thing and Cody has a big problem with this because it shows that people have no media literacy or comprehension and I mostly agree with that but I also think like one has any fucking comprehension of anything so like this is the least of my worries like know if agree I agree or disagree because I just look at everything as the slop of the internet and one of the things that's gotten in shitified like so much of the internet is Don'T Think There Was Some Grand Time In The the past where everyone understood movies. I think that it's likely that people's comprehension of movies is probably about the same as it's always been. Honestly, it might even be better on average, possibly. But the difference is we just see all these takes and our inshittified algorithmic internet puts maybe the worst takes in front of you or maybe puts, you know, people who don't actually have any skill. And this is a point Cody makes that I do agree with. Being a a professional critic is a real thing. I totally agree with Cody on this. A lot of internet maybe doesn't realize that and thinks anyone can just kind of be a movie critic when I think it takes actual knowledge and skill and education probably to be like a really good critic. Maybe not in every case, maybe some people have a lot to offer without formal education and all that, but like broadly speaking on average, being film critic takes actual knowledge of film, which is not something I'm pretending to have, by the way. I don't do this as a film critic whatsoever. I have opinions sometimes, but I would never say like, I'm a film critic. Not at all. And yet there's, I think a lot of these channels on YouTube that are maybe bothering Cody, which might've inspired this video. Lot of them don't know really much about movies, but are providing things that aren't, they're not really critiqued so much as they're subbing their own shallow preferences for a review. Like substituting that in as like a, you know, an in -depth kind of review on the artistic merits, which I think Cody resents. So hopefully I'm kind of representing why he got there in his YouTube video up to, to to represent that fairly. And I agree with most of that, actually. All that is to say let's get to this ending of brand new day because like cody I can't get this out of my head well I I didn't care much until his And I can't get his video out of my head. And now that that may be the prevailing understanding as to the end of the movie. Now I can'T get that out of My head and Cody very hilariously as he always is in his videos kind of is exasperated at the fact that he's even talking about the end Of this movie brand so brand new day how do I do this I can't do this without spoilers so I sure if you don't know anything about this movie and you were uh intending to not be spoiled on it I doubt you're even watching or or listening but just in case heavy spoilers for spider -man's brand new day and probably the one before that I have to spoil those don't really really have a choice uh just giving you extra heads up just in case anybody is worried that if there were a way to kind around it without giving spoilers I would but there's just there's no way because it's about the very literal like last scene of the movie okay now that everyone's warned uh end end of the previous Spider -Man movie, which I did really enjoy, uh, at my heartstrings. Also Uh, I can't believe how long ago it was. I was realizing I have my memory of it was, okay, sorry. One sec for a funny story. Son at let's see, that was 2022 or one. Yeah. He was very young, two or three. Uh, at the Time he had a funny way of speaking. He's totally you it all on his own like instantaneously once he started reading which was really impressive but before that he would use um d's for every sound you know he just said stuff using d's the first letter of every sound and um at that time he was into spider man via the there's like a kid's cartoon I think it's spidey spideyn amazing friends so we're in the uh watching spider -man no way home no way homes home no rich yes no way Home No Way Home one remember those titles they're impossible the last spider -men before this one and he was struggling because he was really little and wife was she's holding him and Willem Dafoe comes on the course he's the Green Goblin. And as she's kind of carrying him because he's being disruptive, he wasn't crying, but he was like being really loud and disruptive because he couldn't really focus on the movie. She's carrying him away. And in the, in the completely full theater, as she'S kind of caring him out, he sees Green Goblin. He says, Oh, oh, look, Dean Doblin.

0:13:28 Thomas: It and laughed. And of my favorite memories, we say it all the time, is Dean Dobbin, which is just so funny. Anyway, I can't believe how long ago that was now, because it felt like yesterday until this movie made me realize how long ago it was. So the end of that movie, which I'm sure we all remember, but just in case, because of what happened with Jake Gyllenhaal and all that nonsense, sense because uh of dr strange love and how dr strange and how he messed up the had a spell that would totally erase the memory of Peter Parker and I feel like it's emphasized pretty heavily that it's not like being stored anywhere it's not just magically gone from everybody's brain memories of Peter Parker and really sad because obviously you know he's got this romance with MJ he's got this best friend as pictured here and it says you know what it's a really sad ending it got me I cried you it's a really it's really something and the important part is nobody remembers him him he's completely you know just I'm not even apparently dr strange which which is odd I feel like he would still be able to whatever that's how their magic of their universe works whatever promised mj that he was gonna like talk to her about it and tell her like about it then at the end of the movie the part that really got me is he sees that she has a bandage from basically everything that happened and it it kind of reminds him that, because of him, she got hurt. I really related to that at the time, just like, especially with my kids being so little, just like this feeling of like anything that you could do that would like hurt somebody you care about that much. I remember that getting me pretty bad at that time. You know, when you've got small kids and you're overly emotional, I'd say you know, when I have small kids, and I'm overly emotional from when it happened until still now. Yeah, no, that got me. So I love that ending. He decides not to tell her because he sees that, again, him being Spider -Man is something that hurt her literally and, ending, sad ending. And this movie picks up from where that is. Remembers him. MJ doesn't remember him. Ned doesn't Remember him. Nobody does. That's the important part for what we're going to get to. You I think I'll Have Cody take it away and explain from there okay

0:15:29 Clip: Of writing this, Spider -Man fans and casuals are apparently debating what The End of Brand -New -Day meant. So, lots of spoilers for just a moment, or like 10 minutes, because honestly, this has been absolutely driving me up the spout. And you recall, Peter Parker's best friends Ned and MJ, via wizard magic, no longer remember Peter at the end the previous movie, No Way Home. Brand new day ends on Peter approaching Ned and instigating their special little handshake. This handshake!

0:16:10 Clip: So, Ned somehow remembers this handshake, some sort of muscle memory kicked in, a dormant emotional habit that he used to share with his best friend. He looks visibly dazed, shakes it off, looks at Peter, and says, Peter! In recognition. Mission. The obvious purpose is to show that Ned's memory of Peter has returned, something Peter and the audience had been yearning for the entire movie. Because it's actually not ambiguous or confusing, but for some reason, people are interpreting it bafflingly incorrectly, saying that Ned merely remembers that this guy he just met in the movie, named Peter, is also Spider -Man, who he met earlier in the movie but spider -man doesn't do the handshake with ned peter does specifically the peter he knew before his memory was erased why would a specific handshake that ned doesn't remember make him think that this stranger is spider -Man well

0:17:08 Thomas: Already heard him a little bit he's going to go really hard on anyone who disagrees with him here um I wanted to describe my experience at the end of this movie when I saw that scene um and the reason I'm saying this is I'm gonna guess that like some number of you or other viewers might have felt the same way which first thought was oh does is he gonna get his memory back does ned remember him is that gonna be what happens because I think that's the first thing anyone would really think of but then I thought about everything that's happened and what's going on um didn't really make sense you a lot of reasons that doesn't make sense um are they good reasons I think Cody has some arguments against some of them but more than anything it's not it's that that didn't occur to me or something it's that it just doesn't really fit and it would be it wouldbe a very weird choice if the handshake brought back the memory that would be incredibly weird and I know if you've seen cody's video you have a bunch of counters to what I'm saying don't worry I have counters to those counters just stay tuned um Cody's goingto play this scene a little later and go into detail. But while I'm talking about what my reaction and I'm guessing maybe some of your reactions was, I think I'm just going to play it now because there's reason that I reacted the way I did. So let's play this.

0:18:21 Clip: Peter. Peter

0:18:46 Thomas: The otherthingmybrandid was the way he says Peter is not that's it's we're to expect that this was a flood of memories of the experience that ned would be having in cody's theory and and in you know it's not just his theory a lot of people's theory that this is remembering everything about peter imagine the flood of emotion of reaction of recognition that would be now to what cody took great pains to say in his video I actually think they were trying to leave this ambiguous and I'll talk talk about why later, but just in terms of an acting take, the listen to the tone of this. Was what he decided to do when the direction was you now remember everything about this guy that you'd forgotten in in the intervening years and like all every like that that to be the reaction it would take a lot of explaining I'm not saying it's impossible and that's my point I might be wrong in some of my interpretation I'm I'm not wrong in some of the things I'm going to say later about what Cody got wrong because he just got stuff wrong, but I might be wrong in my interpretation of this. I might not be wrong, a video. That's like, you are a fucking idiot. If you disagree with me on this, on this particular point, I think they were trying to make it ambiguous. I actually do. That to be the acting choice, like just, you're remembering everything about Peter now and your action is Peter, that in my opinion, that Would be a very bad take. Look, I am not a Professional director or actor or anything I'm an amateur uh here and there um take it with a grain of salt but in my opinion if that were what that take was meant to be that would that would be weak as shit like think the only way that delivery is communicating that message is if the director said we want to make it ambiguous like it would be make sure to downplay it because we don't want people to know for sure it would have to I mean just I know it's hard to imagine but imagine that all of a sudden have these memories unlocked of someone who's your best friend and it comes flooding back to you with this handshake I mean that's going to be like peter like that's good or like sad like like oh my god you know you're going to be like like you're snapping out of something and different choices obviously that a director would make, there's different choices an actor would make and you might want to keep something subtle. But I actually think, I an actor were just playing that straight, they were playing, Hey, you are remembering everything about Peter. Going to be bigger than it's going to be I reallythink odds are 90 It would be bigger than that unless the director told you like tone it down we're keeping it unclear and guess is that that's what they did I think they wanted to be unclear now whether or not that's a good choice I don't know maybe cody would think that's bad choice I think he actually says explicitly that if his version of the movie is wrong then he thinks it sucks which fair I I often feel that way way myself but I'm pretty confident that at the very least the direction here was and by the way the edit and what they take they decided to keep I believe the goal was to make it ambiguous combined that with the fact that it would not make sense for this handshake to bring back all his memories as far as we're concerned for many reasons the memories are pretty dead they're pretty much gone they're not hidden they're just gone now we better go into cody's counters to that uh some of them are good I think he has some good arguments in his favor uh a lot of them are really bad so that'S what my EXPERIENCE watching it live was it was well mean I want it to be that he remembers, like as a viewer, just I thought was they may be going for him remembering if they are I feel like that's that's going to take a lot to justify it in my opinion and the acting choice is weird and it only makes sense in a world where you're trying to make it ambiguous as an actor director editor etc so almost felt like Like, he's going to feel like, wow, we have some crazy connection. Like, Peter, like, how do we both know that, essentially? Which also isn't good. Which also a weird take. Like, I actually think, I think the better choice maybe, and look, take this for what it's worth. Again, I'm not a professional anything. Anything, but I think it might've been better to end it without any words and just have it be like the stunned realization of some kind, or just the stunned feeling of some mind, it gives you the freedom to think like, is he going to be like, oh my God, it's Pete. I've, I've remembered all this stuff, or is it going to Be, you know, you could imagine if it's a fake out and this happens in, in, shows and stuff where they, especially like a soap opera thing thing where they want to give you a fake out, like something really big happened. And then after the commercial break, it turns out, Oh, it's not that big. They did this all the time. I remember my, dad my, used to watch soap operas all the time and I remember that being the funny thing they'd always do. It'd be like before at the commercial break, you'll be like, someone walks in and sees the thing they're not supposed to see. And then they're like, and they even do the cut with a look like, you know, and then when it comes back from commercial break or the next episode, there's some easy way that they get get out of that or some explanation for it. Not saying that this would Be that like tacky, but it could be a version of that, which would be, again, in my chosen cut, where it's just a stunned face, it preserves the ability to his next words to just be like how, you Know, how do I know that? How, How, how, what is that? Why do I know that? Is, I think that would have been better than the Peter, because that's just such a, that's such a weird take, man, it's such a weird acting choice, if that's what you're doing. So in my mind, I actually didn't really conclude anything for sure, because of like when I said the point of the Christopher Nolan movie, Inception, was for the top to be ambiguous. I actually kind of did that same thing in my head. Where I put it all together in real time and was like, well, the acting choice is weird. I'm pretty sure the rules are that they're not getting the memories back. Even if they are getting the memories back, I don't think the handshake makes sense as a way to do it. All this stuff together, I thought, I think they're just trying to leave it ambiguous. And so I kind of stopped thinking about it. It's kind of like, all right, it could be this, could be that. They haven't decided, I'm not going to decide either. That's usually my feeling. So having said all that, now let's get to what Cody thinks.

0:24:39 Clip: For some reason, people are interpreting it bafflingly incorrectly, saying that Ned merely remembers that this guy he just met in the movie, named Peter, is also Spider -man, who he met earlier in the movie. But Spider -eman doesn't do the handshake with Ned. Peter does, Specifically the Peter he knew before his memory was erased. Why would a specific handshake that Ned doesn't remember make him think that this stranger is Spider -Man? Well, one of the pieces of, I don't want to call it evidence for this, I even don't wanna call it a theory, is that earlier in the movie, when Spider -man left Ned and MJ's apartment, MJ calls him Peter, and Ned's like, Spider -Mans name is Peter? So

0:25:21 Thomas: I want to freeze there real quick because one thing that I think is a tool in trying to interpret things like this is like lines that don't seem to have been necessary, but are kind of blend in. Those often are the things that give you the clues because good writers when they're trying to kind clues obviously wanted to blend in as many as possible but it also has to do the function of being give a clue so one of the fingerprints I think you can look for sometimes is wait did they need to do this did like the action of the scene did the whatever the characters whatever was going going on did it necessitate this line or or was it serve the function of a joke or any like is there justification for this thing or line or whatever it is that independently would demand it be there or not and could be wrong um in terms of looking for clues I think that's a good way to do it because when she says, Peter, be careful or whatever it is, that is a little bit arbitrary because at this point in her mind, she actually knows him better as Spider -Man at that time. She has found OUT just a scene earlier, by the way, that he is Peter Parker, but all of her interactions, plus the, the he's wearing at the time, he's in the Spider -Man costume, whatever, that all leans toward her saying Spider -Men. Now I'm not saying this a hundred percent. I'm Not. It's interpretation. It'S it's that kind of thing, but there's there's nothing here, if there's not meant to be anything here at all, it feels weird that she'd say Peter. This is like a 65, 35 to me. Also could make sense. I mean, she just, weird to say Spider -Man, but then again, in her mind, in her universe, grown up with for however many years, the idea of Spider -Men. She's more familiar with Spider -man than Peter by a factor at this point in the movie, in her life. Like, think about I'm trying to think of what the possible equivalent could be, but like, let's say, see, it's like Darth Vader, you know, I'm just trying to think of a possible comparison. We all know Darth Vader's name is Anakin like, for most of my life, I didn't know that because the prequels hadn't come out, and even after the preqels came out, if it was Darth Vader in Darth Vader costume, I am going to say, like Darth Darth Vader. When I'm, when I'm telling Darth Vader to be careful, you know, romantically as he's leaving, Darth, Darth be careful. Again, I'm not saying this 100%. I'm not even saying this is like 80%. This is like, for me, it's like a, this is like a 65 % that this felt intentional. Now what's the intention though? I'm Not saying this justifies everything that those other theorists are saying, but I feel like this is arbitrary enough, or, or I don't know if if that's the word but this is not necessary enough that I think like there's a point to and I think the point might be for ned to hear that his name is peter now does that mean that their interpretation of the end is right that his realization is that peter is spider -man I I think it's not insane that's the thing I'm make sense because again like cody said that the handshake is a weird thing to trigger that doesn't really make sense, because like cady said he didn't do the handshak with spider -man it could kind of make sense as like a chain reaction type thing where back, to this he's just meeting someone someone he's maybe as a bit of a chain reaction from the handshake and from like considering things more making connections. Not saying I agree with this theory that, Cody you shared that all the tweets and the whatever saying I'm saying, I don'T think it's insane. I DON'T think gets like super crazy it be that the handshake turned it from you're just meeting a rando who says hi my name's peter and you're like okay I'm in a coffee shop or whatever like what I'm new york like okay cool to like pausing you enough to be like wait a minute I just learned spider -man's name was peter also the voice he knows his voice like he just interacted with spider -man for a while like actually the more I think about this like this might be what it is this is not crazy because he just interacted with spider -Man and spider - man I don't know if you know this has the same voice exactly as peter parker and let's just watch this part okay

0:29:14 Clip: You're not going to believe this, but

0:29:16 Thomas: This is where he's meeting spider - man they

0:29:16 Clip: The Spidey Tracker app says that Spider -Man is in the direct vicinity. Oh yeah? No way, that's crazy.

0:29:26 Clip: Uh, Ned? Spider -man? Spider man? Ned? It's nice to meet you, Ned. Hello.

0:29:30 Thomas: Shook hands now Now, that wasn't the handshake, admittedly, but is it crazy to that in that scene, and by the way, in a world in which, like, we're pretty sure, short of some, guessing, like sure that these memories are a hundred percent gone. That world, is it crazy to thinking that this handshake combined with hearing his voice that he just hung out with him, combined with learning his name was Peter from that little thing that I just talked about for a while it's not a crazy interpretation to be like peter like also that acting choice fits with it more where this is something I think cody misses in a moment I'm probably going to play where I do think ned would not say spider -man because like he he's not going to give away his identity you know it's non -impossible that that character might might blurt it out but like also pretty reasonable to think he would make the connection like oh peter uh and have the presence the wherewithal because not crazy to think that that last scene would have been him realizing that it's spider -man but having the presence of mind to say peter know it's funny I went into this thinking like I agreed with cody that that theory made no sense the more I think about it the more I talk about it it makes a lot of sense now here's the thing I'm not saying it's 100 % right I'm Not even saying it's like 80 % but it's not crazy and when you hear how cody's gonna talk about how fucking stupid stupid. He thinks anyone is who thought this. Far. I think him when you think about his voice, that's something that Cody didn't bring up. Just talked with Spider -man for an hour. Like they did Legos together. They hung out together. Heard his voice a ton and Peter just did his voice. Now, I think handshake the is a bit of a, obviously that throws you off a little bit because you think that would mean he remembers, but it could just be that's muscle memory. And then he has the sort of chain reaction to start thinking about it and realize, oh, Peter, essentially, which is more consistent with the acting choice that I don't know I would make if would be thinking to do would be something more like Peter, Peter you know like you're realizing a little bit whereas if I just had a flood of memories that my childhood friend who's like my best friend all coming back to me and swirling in a moment as I've done this handshake that made me unlock all these memories it would be being more like Peter or something big you know within movie language of big and then you would pick a good take and they'd be be edited, but it would be bigger than Peter, you I don't use like my acting as a gauge, but that's what I think an actor would likely be thinking as they made their acting choices. I Don't Think It's Crazy for this to be the theory, but Cody does think it's crazy. So let's, to let's that.

0:31:58 Clip: MJ calls him Peter, and Ned's like, Spider -man's name is Peter? So later Ned sees this guy he met randomly at a party who originally said his name was Maynard, but is not saying his is Peter which doesn' make Ned think it's the Peter who Spider -Made him earlier yet, and then he does a really specific handshake with him that he didn't do with Spider - Man when they met earlier in the movie, so he realizes he's spiderman who he now remembers is named peter and says peter but he doesn't say spiderman if if if the point of the scene is that this guy's name is peter he's also spiderman he would have been like oh spiderman right why the handshake peter could have just walked up and told him hi I'm spiderman we played legos earlier do you want to be friends friends or

0:32:44 Thomas: Pausing there, I are times that I think he adds things that aren't actually good arguments in order to pile on a bit. The part he adds about Maynard, totally irrelevant. That's just Cody trying to make this seem like a further fetched connection than it is because Ned does not have to remember that it was Maynards at all. That's Cody adding that, it's kind of like, a little bit, I don't want to say bad faith, but it'S like trying to pile on in ways that aren't really valid.

0:33:10 Clip: Sees this guy he met at a party who originally said his name was Maynard, but is now saying his name is Peter, which doesn't make Ned think it's the Peter who Spider -Man from earlier yet, and then he does a

0:33:14 Thomas: This is superfluous. This is all nothing. So that the function of of that just rhetorically is to make it sound like more steps. So when you're trying to say like this theory that people are giving is really dumb, one way to do that is to try to like complicate it as much as possible rhetoricaly. And if you add more stuff like, oh, and it's Maynard and then he's, and he doesn't make him think of that. It doesn't makes him think of the Maynards from earlier, but it does make him, you know, like all that is nothing though. That's not part of the theory. Like that's a small thing, but he's doing the thing of trying to make the other theory sound super crazy, I that Ned is getting the name Peter doesn't necessarily have to be from remembering MJ a while ago. And like, that's another way to make it sound like kind of random, but Peter just said his name was Peter. So like the name is on Ned's, the tip of Ned's tongue, because literally Peter just said, my name's Peter. So like, it's another Way that, Cody's that kind of making this sound a little more far fetched than it is. Like if you listen very carefully here I

0:33:54 Clip: Spider - Man, who he now remembers is named Peter and says, Peter. He realizes he's Spider -Man, who he now remembers is named Peter, and says Peter, but he doesn' t say Spider -man. If the point of the scene is that this guy's name is Peter and he's also Spider - man, he would have been like, oh Spider - man, right?

0:34:36 Thomas: Don't think he would say spider -man no

0:34:44 Clip: Why the handshake? Peter could could have just walked up and told him, hi, I'm Spider -Man. We played Legos. Just

0:34:44 Thomas: He also okay so peter also wouldn't do that again I'm nitpicking but it's only because the 10 or so minutes after this and now that cody's gonna make anyone who thinks opposite of him on this seem like the stupidest fucking idiot to ever walk the earth I'm knit picking but no he wouldn't say spider Like, I mean, he could, I'm not saying it's impossible that that could happen, but you, might also have the chill and wherewithal to not out him as Spider -Man. And also Peter sure as shit, not going to say, hi, I am Spider -man. That doesn't, that's wouldn't happen. That's silly. So using that as like a counter to the theory I don't think is valid because neither of those two things seem particularly plausible as things that would happen if the theory cody is criticizing were I don'T THINK THOSE ARE THINGS THAT WOULD HAPPEN like

0:35:37 Clip: Walked up and told them, hi. I'm Spiderman. We play Legos earlier. Do you want to be friends? Or they would have had Ned learn the handshake from Spiderman when they met earlier in the movie. And then it would make sense that Ned needed the handshakes to connect that this guy named Peter, who he doesn't know, is Spiderman, who does know

0:35:57 Thomas: That's like a half valid point except they the function of this scene were just just to have Ned realize it's Spider -Man. He's right that the handshake is superfluous to that. It is. I totally agree there. And that's why I'm still not like 100 % sure what's going on here. I think it might be ambiguous intentionally. It It might be what he's saying and the handshakess somehow does trigger all these memories, which we'll get to. Or it might Be that the Handshake is, you know, it's a bit of a misdirect, gets your hopes up a little bit and then um know depending on where the writers want to go um on that later not really valid to say if this were the point then he would have learned the handshake from spider -man because like that would also be a really dumb way to do this like that that also wouldn't happen I can't decide if this is like that great of a point on my part but like wouldn't happened either like because why would he do that so like that point Point is taken that like handshake itself shouldn't and doesn't trigger Spider -Man. But like, I interpretation, like I said earlier, that the handshak is part of sort the of a chain reaction that for one is like a, oh, weird moment, but also gets Ned to kind of think a little more and to realize for one, he did shake Peter's hand normal when it was Spider -Men. So they're how much do you remember the feel of someone's hand? I don't, you know, like it's not zero. Uh and also the voice you know it's like just causes him to consider it a little more and realize um don't think it's crazy is all I'm saying so

0:37:14 Clip: But none of that happens. And it's really, really, really weird that so many people think this is what the scene is about. And I know it's easy to take a few silly opinions or tweets from a few people and inflate them to make it seem like, oh, everyone's saying this, but it's not just a few people. Not to single any one person out, but I just want to point out that this isn't just random accounts on Twitter. It's a very common misinterpretation. This channel has almost 4 million subscribers. It is dedicated to talking We're talking about Marvel movies, and yet... The movie ends with Spider-Man reintroducing himself to Ned Leeds, revealing his name is Peter, with them doing their handshake, and Ned connecting the dots from earlier that this Peter is the same Peter that MJ just said was Spider-Man after all the Legos earlier in the movie. The idea being that they'll become best friends again, and then will eventually become his man in the chair again. In

0:38:09 Thomas: That's interesting there note that even in this I he's brought up as an example of another idiot who has this theory note that what he said was they did the handshake and then ned makes the connections like doesn't he say directly like the handshake equals Spider -Man, which, you maybe you think that's splitting hairs, but like, if you're going to come down really hard on people for thinking the handshake causes directly him to realize it's Spider -man, I feel like you got to be accurate there. Cause like, listen to what it actually was said, doing their handshake and then connecting the dots from earlier. I mean, is it fair to say that whoever this is, is saying like the the handshake directly like causes him to know it's Spider -Man. I don't think it would be fair at all to say that this reviewer, whoever this is, is saying that the handshaket is critical to how Ned realizes it's Spiderman. He says they do the handshake and Ned connects the dots from earlier that Peter, that Spiderman, so

0:39:20 Clip: They're kind of playing along and trying to get people engaged and moving into this theorizing. But they know what the scene means. They made it. And more importantly, they made it well. And I think it's actually kind of insulting to

0:39:34 Thomas: I want to pause there because wantto agree with him on one thing I not saying it's invalid for anyone to want to do this but I would say as for me I think it's kind of stupid to ask like the director and actor like what did the scene mean because like exactly what cody is saying like they know what it meant if you're supposed to know what the scene means then you should know it from watching the movie if you are not supposed to know what scene means then that's the answer you shouldn't ask the actor director for like secret meet like it just I don't know I get why they do it I'm not saying like I get you know because they're again whoever this interviewer is is trying to feed their whatever publication thing they want to get the clicks that way so I get what they're asking but if it were me as a fan like if I was a fan and I'm just like meeting these actor the director for not an interview I wouldn't in a million years ask them that because I think it's kind of like I I don't know it's like against the spirit of art again if you're supposed to know what the scene was it should be there for you and in that sense I agree with cody because cody does think everything's there for him I disagree in that I actually don't think it is and I want to highlight quote that he opens can you zoom on youtube let me see can you Zoom can you you zoom? When I paused, I read the quotes that he's referring to. And I do want to read this one, which I think is from whoever, uh is. I think he said it was the director. I don't know either way the highlighted quote, and this is highlighted by Cody. Listen, we're definitely not trying to torture people with ambiguity. I feel like what's very clear is the emotion you're left with when we cut to black. To me, there's a very clear feeling of joy, just enough, and then you cut to Black. I've seen the theories and I love the theories. I think they're so cool and I don't want to stop that conversation by putting my opinion in the middle of it. And this is the part he didn't highlight. Knowing there will be another movie, that conversation will continue in the writer's room as we figure out, if we figure out, what we're going to do next. Think it's kind of notable he didn't highlight that. Like, I'll say it for the 15th time. I'm not saying I 100% have the answers, but Cody is. He is saying he 100 % has the answers and you're an idiot if you disagree. Really. Like you truly, you fundamentally can't watch movies. I want to Make Too Much of It because, again I think for comedy purposes and I like Cody and I mostly, it doesn't really bother me, but I could see a lot of other people being bothered. Like if they thought the, theory that Cody is making fun of, like he goes really hard on it. Talks about these people, like they're fundamentally incapable of consuming art, you know, in a way that's like it's pretty bad. Like, it's, it'S pretty harsh to be honest with you. And so my burden of proof here is not to say I 100 % know. It's to say, if we're anywhere near uncertain, like if the correct answer is anywhere near uncertainty, then Cody is being a kind of a big giant asshole and is just really, really wrong about something in a way and confidently wrong about Something in a Way that I think kind of sucks. And so that part that he didn't highlight there, I think is interesting because that seems plausible to me. It seems very plausible to Me that they actually don't have the the next movie fully written yet. And while I agree with Cody in the spirit of these movies are not meant to have these ambiguous endings like Inception, I agree With that, like the point of the movie. And when you think about that Magneto one with the chess piece, the point of it is not, did he move it? Didn't he move It? That's a philosophical thing that, you know, it's not that, but honestly, it does serve a bit of a different function than I think Cody is thinking? Because Cody says it's just a teaser and it guarantees that the next movie is going to have that. Think that's mostly true, but I actually also think it serves the function that we're seeing in this quote, which is they're not 100 % sure what they're doing next. They want to leave maximum opening so that they don't write themselves into a corner. What if they don'T fully have the next move planned out, which often they don' t. I th I think sometimes they do, sometimes they don'. I'm this quote by the way if you take this quote at anything like like face value I see cody being skeptical and saying like maybe they're just playing along because they don't want to spoil people's fun I get that that's possibility but that quote's pretty direct at the end where he says the conversation we'll continue in the writers room as we figure it out if we figure out what we're going to do next now he could be lying he could just be trying to preserve that mystery I that's a possibility but that's pretty direct and it's entirely plausible to me that they don't have it fully figured out they my point is the final scene might actually be intentionally ambiguous for the purpose of preserving your writing options not so much much for the purpose of the inception one, which is like to make you think about it. That's the point, you know, the philosophically, that's the point of the movie, et cetera, et cetera, but just to preserve your flexibility in your writing approach next, because if maybe, maybe you have like 50 % figured out, maybe, maybe like, maybe they've already made the decision on if or how they might get their memories back or if they're not going to, maybe they've уже made that decision, but you don't know who's going to be be the writer for the next one, for sure. I don't think, I could be wrong, but usually they're not 100 % sure on these things. Even if you were pretty sure what you were going to do, what if whoever gets in that writer's room next, and maybe it's this guy, whoever it is, if they realize like, oh shit, this doesn't work. Or maybe they realize, oh, it would actually work better for the Next Plot that we want to do for the new movie, maybe if there's more of a delay in him remembering. And so we're going to stretch that out a little bit. But those are all very legitimate reasons to just do exactly what they did, which is make an ending that gives you that positive feeling, that satisfaction, which is pretty much exactly what these quotes say, to be honest with you. So my interpretation has the benefit of it's fully fully consistent with what these quotes are and takes them at face value. I'm not saying that's 100%. Cody's interpretation is consistent with the quotes are only if the actor and the director here are lying. Lying or they're like trying to preserve the mystery on purpose which I'm not I'm not saying is insane that's totally possible but given the two I don't think it's crazy go with the interpretation that's like yeah maybe they just haven't fully written it out yet and this preserves flexibility in writing and maybe in the next movie maybe they wanted to have ned know right away maybe they want to have the first act of the movie be that part where they're getting the memories back or doing something like that and the rest of the movie you is going to be the who knows like they just want to maintain the flexibility that's what I actually think is going on here that's why I think they left it ambiguous so than either one of the two possibilities that cody and and the internet and me have given but this isn't at all what cody wants to hear I

0:46:06 Clip: Well. And I believe it's kind of insult to the people involved who did a good job at the obvious things that they are portraying The only other piece of, again, I don't want to call it evidence, is that, SPOILERS, at one point, the villain of the movie tells Peter that all of MJ's memories of him are gone, and there's no giving them back. And she says that in the scene, specifically, about the villain manipulating Peter. So like maybe the villain of the movie that's about isolation and maintaining your humanity was actually lying to the hero and manipulating him into falling deeper into despair and isolation squashing any hope he has of the return to a semblance of a normal life thus all but guaranteeing the villain's success it's a movie because what I'm positive is that much like abc's lost or the deep, intricate, satisfying mysteries of stranger things. Perhaps the creators of this Spider -Man movie put some secret little hints into their film to guide people to understand the final scene in order to elicit an emotional reaction. Again, I know that this seems like a waste of time, and honestly, it probably is. I'm so sorry, but here's our new segment. Please stop being so wrong about the end of Spider -Man Brand New Day, this shouldn't be hard. In

0:47:32 Thomas: Like I said we barely even scratched the surface of how dismissive he is but you heard some of there I want to pause there because this is I think an okay argument on his part still now note that it involves it want to be careful about like where the burden is here because it's one thing to say oh you've completely missed something obvious. And then you're like, oh yeah, damn, that's obvious. It's another thing to say, the thing you've missed is that the characters were lying. Cause like, like I'm not saying it's wrong. I'm not saying, it could totally true that that character is lying, the villain was lying in that scene. I am not saying that's impossible, but I will note that But that's it comes to the like Occam's razor of it all, that is another assumption you have to make. Could be a good one. To act like you're an idiot if you don't go along and make this additional assumption, which is that the villain in that scene would be lying. And that a good assumption that she would be laying? I mean, it's not bad. I'm not saying like it's impossible, but given goes on in that scene isn't actually that Jean Grey wants Spider -Man to be hopeless. That's actually not true. Jean Grey just wants Spider -man out of the way. So sure, she could be lying and saying there's nothing in here. That's be even more hopeless. Helpless but that's like when you think about it that would maybe be less effective than saying whoa there some thoughts of you in here maybe you do what I want and I give these back to you or if have it be like tormenting him and would make him that much more incentivized to like not along with her to would make it feel that much more salient that he needs to rescue MJ. Not that he wouldn't already want to, but like just that additional emotional stakes. I actually don't even know that that makes sense in his interpretation, that she would just be lying. Like I actually, like not saying it doesn't make that much sense based on the scene. Actually, the more I think about it, the More I'm wondering, like, does Cody know how to watch movies? Like, I mean, it's kind of like the obvious retort, but I think he's playing pretty pretty fast and loose. I think he came to a conclusion and really wanted to prove that conclusion. And by the way, this is like where he's at his best. And I don't even think this is good. The next like 10 minutes that really bad arguments that I'm going to point out. But at this point in the film, so he is saying that, the oh, evidence for this is that Jean Grey says, you know, there's no memories anywhere. Cody says very dismissively and condescendingly you're an idiot because actually she's just lying to him because she wants him to just believe in nothing and feel isolated etc etc but that's not true at this point in the movie we actually know what she wants because

0:50:01 Clip: Do you want? You They're hunting you down because you're dangerous, now what do you want? Since you're a very simple spider, let me spell it out for you. Damage control is something that I need.

0:50:30 Thomas: Line was I want to know why you join up with an organization that's hunting down people like us just because we're different if anything I like at this this point Jean Grey would be trying to form more of a bond I you know she's a villain you know she's being really villainous I get it but it's not actually true that at this point in the movie she's trying to fulfill her objective by making him hopeless that's actually not true she still at this part of the movie believes her sister is alive she's still in a way she's hopeful I know that sounds weird to say about the villain but like there's a difference between when she is doing villainy stuff because she thinks she can go rescue her sister who's very much alive and that's like kind of a hopeful feeling even if it's still villainous versus when she finds out her sister's dead and she really becomes nihilistic that's think cody is actually making a pretty big error here because he's taking the nihilism that she feels after that point way later in the movie and saying it applies to right around here it's a little bit after this that this happens um happens is he runs and tries to get mj before gene gray can he gets mj and then little does he know gene gray actually is inhabiting mj so it's it's a bit later but it's still that all that one continuous sequence like gene gray's motivations haven't changed in between this and that so I think it's true at all that Jean Grey would be trying to make him hopeless. And imagine if she were able to say, wow, there's all kinds of memories about you in here, but they're very locked down. She has something he wants and could use it. Why in the world wouldn't she use it? Doesn't make any sense. So now we're going to get to his proactive case for his interpretation. And let single argument he makes here is bad. Every single one. There's not a single argument. He makes in this section that is good. Some of it is very bad and it makes errors even bigger than the ones I think I've already highlighted that he makes. Let's go through it step by step.

0:52:22 Clip: A little later, the villain takes over the mind of Bruce Banner, who at one point literally says that she broke something in his brain. Then, Spider-Man fights the Hulk, and the Hulk—who I don't actually think Spider -man or Peter ever even met—seemingly remembers Peter. Later, the villian who said they couldn't rest—

0:52:41 Thomas: Now note the inherent contradiction what he just said because he actually points out rightfully peter that didn't know bruce banner and the hulk really I really interact much at all um says I even think they knew each other but then he's also saying that she broke something in his brain and now hulk knows peter does that make that that doesn't make any sense so if his theory is these memories are still around like in someone's brain which I don't think is crazy I disagree with it but I don't it's crazy to say the memories are still locked in someone else's brain and I also don't think it's great by the way this may end up being what it is I don t think it s crazy to say that the super powerful gene gray the super duper uber powerful gene grey could unlock those memories somehow I with that because I don't think that's how the magic works I think the magic has fucking rules this nom there are rules I think the magic as rules and those memories I believe are gone they're not locked away I think they're actually gone but it's not crazy to say okay maybe she could unlock them but then in the case of the hulk as cody just acknowledged a second before he makes his point there is no memory to unlock they don't know each other they didn't interact with each other so what in his mind what is she unlocking is she implanting knowledge of peter that she has somehow or something but that wouldn't make any sense either because they're not friends so let's go through what actually happens and there's more problems there's actually a really big problem with what he's saying uh the sequencing of the movie so he's trying to make it seem like when banner says my head I think she she broke something that's indicative that like has unleashed the memories possibly or she's done something significant I don't I'm not trying to mischaracterize cody I'm very much trying to characterize his argument correctly I hope I am uh think he's saying my head I think she broke something is the line we see there uh in the subtitle he's arguing that she's so powerful she can make his brain break or do something to unleash these memories and that's further evidenced by the way this fight ends which is really weird I'm going to talk about the fight ends by peter kind of pleading with a hulk that he's his friend and it kind of works so major problem at point Jean Grey and Spider -Man are one million percent fighting each other there's no that she's not on his side he's not On Her Side there's No Reason Whatsoever that she would be trying to do this and the whole thing she is doing with the Hulk is she's taking over the Hulk to have him mess stuff up and for one to have him break into this vault for her but for two at this this point, she kind of leaves the Hulk to be a problem for Peter or for Spider -Man. So she wants the Hulk to be an enemy of Spider -man in this moment. And this is not a close call. That is directly what's going on in the movie. Says like, you know, essentially like good luck, you know, with this guy and then leaves. They're not friendly. Jean Grey and Spider-Man are not friendly. There's no reason whatsoever that Jean Grey would be trying to unleash memories of anyone of peter at all and there's would go against what she's trying to do which is to have the hulk kind him up right now so why would she be really breaking something his brain that release these memories that are positive with peter that makes absolutely no sense now maybe cody could argue that that's an accident or something but you're really on the occam's razor you here's another thing at this moment in the movie she doesn't have her uber powers. He later says she becomes way more powerful and and he uses that cody uses that as a way to justify that she could do this but at this point in the if this point she could have done it without the bigger powers and that's irrelevant and so regardless that's a contradiction on cody's part which means he's she's not doing a perfect job watching movies so here's what I think here's my big revelation of what I think is actually happening here I'm not 100 sure but I this could be it and it makes a bit of sense theory of mine fell together so well that I really think it has to be intentional so here'S a weird THING for cody to leave out that where banner said she broke SOMETHING in my BRAIN which we're TO BELIEVE according to cody is like the possible unleashing of memories right what happened just before the part that cody references okay this is just after gene gray was controlling him as the halk and he came out of it and look how he addresses peter spider

0:56:57 Clip: Is that you? Spider -Man. What happened?

0:56:59 Thomas: -man he doesn't know him

0:57:01 Clip: Where am I? You don't do all this? Yeah. Did I hurt anyone? It's not your fault. She was in your mind. You weren't in control. I lost my ability. Look, here. Here. It's the only thing keeping the monster inside. It's sir. There's people in the building. Just put it on. Go ahead. You broke something. Is she still in there? No. It's The Omega! Bruce, I can get you out of here, okay? I just need you to put that inhibitor on. You can't get through. Yes, you can, Bruce. Yes, I'm coming. Yes, yes, you're coming. Get out of the building. Get out.

0:57:12 Thomas: Skipping a second here she's love him he's such a good actor I really like this part um doesn't know peter there and that's when he said she broke something in my brain he still doesn't known at any point he says spider -man the point the purpose of the she broke Something in My Brain is previously in this movie, I thought it was the introduction of it, but it turns out it's not because I didn't watch like She -Hulk or season two. Is there a season two of that? I didn'T watch it, whatever it is. That introduced the idea, the concept of this inhibitor. First introduction of it was in this move. And I think because they know probably not everybody watched the Hulk show, they also reintroduce it. Make Like a point to say, oh, it's my inhibitor, a lot of reasons for this for one if you remember back in I don't know uh infinity war one of those he was both bruce banner and the hulk at once he was simultaneously both and he's not and there are a number of reasons why they would have wanted that one it's probably easier you don't want to be doing the cgi the whole time of like the half bruce half uh hulk um there could be another other reason that is my theory that might not be right but might be but anyway point is he's got this inhibitor to keep him totally out but having lost the inhibitor you or I might expect oh okay well if he's lost the exhibitor that just resets him to where he was before which was he had this perfect marriage of hulk and banner and was able to control it but in this scene in part of the movie they much need the Hulk to be uncontrollable so the function the purpose of him saying I think she broke something in my brain is for him to no longer be able to control himself here that's the purpose of it it's not to suggest that she could break something that would bring back a flood of memories you could argue it's doing double duty but I really don't think it is I think it's just that we need him to have to go Hulk mode here And now you might be saying, but wait a minute, there's that part where Hulk recognizes Peter. Now this part is weird. So they're fighting, fighting, big battle. I skipped and here we go. Spider -Man has no other options here.

0:59:38 Clip: Bruce, it's Peter. I'll be with you for a minute. So

0:59:51 Thomas: Sees his reflection, et cetera, et cetera. That is weird, but here's the important thing about that. That also doesn't make sense under his theory, because under Cody's theory, there there's no reason for Spider -Man to think or expect or know that the Hulk or Bruce would remember him as his friend. -man doesn't know that Jean Grey unlocked these memories in him. He has no idea. And if he did, I would think he would say something about it afterwards. What this could could be is in a moment of desperation when he really has no other option peter parker spider -man just tries to get through to bruce banner which is kind of a classic hulk thing again I'm not like a super fan but like I'm sure many of you could tell me better like often doesn't work but I think sometimes when they need it to it works a little bit where you're like bruce bruce no you know like it kind of gets through to him enough to kind him down into non-Hulk mode. That happens. Is one interpretation that is neither Cody's theory nor mine, which I'm about to tell you. It could be that in a moment of desperation, he tried just the softest approach, which is Bruce, I'm your friend. The mirror thing actually, yeah, the mirror think goes to that because if what's happening is that Hulk remembers who Peter is, then we're to believe he remembers peter which by the way is a memory that like he wouldn't even have for no reason jean gray would have accidentally implanted against her goals so a lot of things that are wrong it's like there's no part of that that makes any sense at all and yet cody's gonna lecture us about how if we don't didn't get all this obvious stuff then we're idiots and bad at movies I think that what's opening is he kind of gets through to bruce banner but now at long last I want to give you my theory is a bit of a detour but I wait a minute what if the hulk can remember peter because they specifically have ensured that because of this inhibitor thing the hunk was like not really around when memory thing happened so it could be and they kind of did this with the blip a little bit where people who are blipped out you know during during that whole thing they missed certain things or they weren't subject to certain things it could me that because hulk was not just and this is why it's really important that he wasn't banner slash hulk he was only banner because of this inhibitor during this time I've went through the timeline and it pretty much holds up the um only parts that don't hold up is she hulk but from what I've read that actually doesn't hold up for a lot of reasons like the timeline is a little just weird there not going to go into it but from the best I can tell this all holds up that bruce banner was bruce banner with the inhibitor with no hulk during the memory thing and what if the magic therefore couldn't access success hulk's memory of peter and now you might say okay but still hulk slash banner slash peter didn't really have a close relationship and I agree it's not really anywhere in the movies but I do think regardless of any interpretation if peter is saying bruce it's me I'm your friend in this scene he is doing that because presumably at some point in this whole saga they spent some time together a little bit you it's true that that could be what what gene gray is unlocking could be and that would fix I the contradiction earlier although still doesn't make a whole lot of sense because she has no motivation to do that could it could also be that by chance when peter is trying to make this appeal he by the way in either case peter doesn't know this would work but by chance peter tries to make this appeal to his humanity to bruce banner to say bruce it's me peter your friend and in the typical hulk fashion it kind of calms him down uh what if because hulk of just wasn't really in existence during that time he still has memories of at least fighting with peter parker slash spider -man to the same goals and ends and if he hulk slash banner built any memories with peter slash spider -man while he was both banner hulk so he was like both guys I think arguably those memories would kind of be in both entities and then later when bruce has inhibited hulk away and so he's sort of like tucked away in nowhere land I don't know what the exact rules of that would would be but plausibly the rules could be hulk's kind of not really accessible and therefore dr strange's magic didn't hit hulk at all and so banner very much doesn't know peter we know that we've seen him not know pete but maybe hulk kind of does maybe hunk has in his hulk way at least like feeling of oh this is an ally or at least this isn't an enemy and maybe it's just enough to calm him down now I there's do want to be fair as much as I think this could it that also doesn't exactly fit with the mirror reflection represent of it that you see right after he calms down so that kind of cuts both ways I think the reflection thing I do think that's more just the hulk seeing bruce so I wanna be fair about this. Reflection The part, Hulk looking at his reflection right after this kind evidence against both mine and Cody's theories. When you look at everything else, I think Cody's theory is terrible here. It doesn't make any sense that Gene would do that. It doesn't makes any sense on any level. We see that Banner doesn't know Peter. He calls him Spider -Man there. And the breaking the brain has a very necessary function. You know, to my point way earlier, when you're looking for stuff that doesn't have to be there, the part where he says, I think she broke something in my brain that actually does have to be there it's the only way that the huk is uncontrollable because if he didn't say that then the fans would be saying wait a minute the last time that he didn'T have an inhibitor he was perfectly perfectly capable of controlling himself and being just hulk banner again IT'S A MATTER OF PERCENTAGE AND IT'S a matter of what the writers wanted to do it's not impossible that that line serves double duty I find it unlikely because there's so much else going against it she is not friends with spider -man at this time at all I've made the points so this in my opinion and this is just the first thing that cody just gets completely wrong this is a terrible argument for his point again point might ultimately be right like the interpretation at the end my theory is it It is ambiguous on purpose, which means it could be either thing, which means it Could ultimately be that Cody has the right conclusion. Don't think it's true, but it could be but even if he does even if that is true. This is an awful argument for it. I think this is just not right in any way for while we're on this topic of my theory, which is the Hulk still could remember Spider -Man theory, I know I said I haven't seen anyone talk about this, but I've also said I haven't looked for it. So maybe someone has said this, But I promise you, I have not consumed any other analysis except this one and just me thinking about it. So if other people have pointed that out, then cool. Cool, but I do think that could be what's going on here. Another little interesting thing. I thought of this theory, one of the things I thought of was, wait a minute, when, how long has Bruce Banner been just Bruce Bander? Because, again, he were Baner Hulk when Dr. Strange did this magic thing that would kind of blow his whole theory. Then I saw this little tidbit. And remember what I said about things that don't need to be there. Is when Spider -Man goes up to hang out with Ned. This bit of extraneous stuff again

1:06:52 Clip: Hulk, a.k.a. Dr. Bruce Banner, is in custody, currently being transferred to a psychiatric ward. After years as a peaceful academic, the question the world asks today is, what finally snapped?

1:07:06 Thomas: I'm not saying this proves it but it is interesting like one of the objections I thought of was wait has he been only banner long enough for this to make sense because he would have had to be only banner when dr strange did his magic and then we get for no reason like I won't say for no reasons like it's okay it makes sense it's not insane for ned to have the news on and to hear about the hulk but when you break it down what the newscaster is saying that is pretty arbitrary she they make a point of writing her saying bruce after years as a peaceful academic this has everyone wondering what changed that's why would you you think to write that that's do this a lot in my skepticism work as well when you're really trying to formulate theories and you're trying to look at things like this and you'RE trying to LOOK AT THINGS LIKE INTENT this the perfect place to find something because that that line very much does not need to exist you wouldn't think of that if there were nothing else going on and you were just trying to fill the time here first of all you could just have the newscaster be talking could have them talking about the hulk but you could have her talking about that the damage to the buildings the the other casualties the what's going on you know any number of other things about it but no they specifically write her saying years of life as a peaceful professor whatever this has people wondering what changed and blends in fine because it's not totally crazy crazy for the newscaster to say that but it is when you think about the other way when you think like as a writer if I were going to put in this scene and by the way you almost don't even need anything here like you're just establishing that Ned is in the apartment like that's all that's happening here Ned you already have like the the spider -man app that you could be doing which by the way is right after this

1:08:41 Clip: Ward. After years being transferred. After years as a peaceful academic, the question the world asks today is what finally snapped? I don't know. Hey,

1:08:53 Thomas: You could just do this part really by the wait is that is that toby mcguire's voice that kind of sounds like toby maguire's voice I haven't looked it up I wonder if it is it'd be funny so all you're having to do here as a writer is you're establishing that ned is in the apartment and a funny gag and it also fits his character that he's tracking spider really closely there's no reason you need to put in the newscaster at all and because we just saw what happened like the audience doesn't need to be reminded of what just happened five seconds ago I mean okay it was like a couple scenes ago but still like we know that that happened and there's no reason within this movie on its own terms if my theory is wrong there's not really any reason we need to know that he was dr peaceful dr banner for years as she says it know, like I think, I only think of that line if you're trying to accomplish something and trying to think of lines that blend in to accomplish that thing. I don't think you think ofthat line ifyou're not doing that and your goal is, okay, what should happen here in the apartment? There's a newscaster. Okay, what's the newscaster saying? Well, you know, the Hulk attacked and buildings damaged, millions of dollars, whatever, you know, again, this is all a matter of probability. I'm not saying it's a hundred percent at all. This, this was another thing where I was like, wow, if one of my main questions was, was he Bruce Banner long enough? Then I saw this scene where the newscaster just like throws in, uh, he was Bruce Bander for years. I was like, okay, maybe, maybe my theory may have some merit to my theory. Don't know. Knows? It's a fun theory I thought of. There it is. There you have it. So after that detour, let's get back to some incredibly bad arguments from Cody.

1:08:59 Clip: I'm nearby. Uh, you're not gonna believe this, the villain who said they couldn't restore all those memories has her special mind superpowers increased by like a thousand -fold, and freezes thousands and thousands of people in new york city at one point the camera lingers on specifically mj frozen by mind powers as a tear falls down her cheek interesting that they wanted to show us that

1:10:40 Thomas: Here's the next thing. Do think that's interesting, the problem with that is that the timing doesn't work at all. That point in the movie, movie, Jean Grey is at her most nihilistic, sad, like keep in mind the reason she gets that power explosion that gives her that huge radius and she freezes everybody is because she finds out her sister died. It's really sad. By Uh, the way, I like this movie a lot. I don't know if I said that is I like, it's good. I like it. I also love Max from stranger things. I love her. She's great I saw saw in john proctor was the villain uh she was so good in that and I love that place so much love it all around good stuff so at that moment she is actively fighting peter here is what is happening when we get that tier which I agree the tier is purposeful it's interesting but it doesn't make sense the way cody says it for a lot of reasons here's what's happening when that happens like from stranger things Jean Grey is at her most desperate and she's talking about how these people will take everything from you and she even says it gets even worse because she says like people like her and spider -man don't even get to have these loved ones and she is actively fighting spider -Man while that's happening but yet we're to believe here I'll push play this is what she's that's her she's controlling all those people fighting spider -man they're

1:12:10 Thomas: Still fighting they're

1:12:14 Clip: Got hold of everyone within a kilometer of the island. You got what?

1:12:22 Thomas: Frozen she's got her eyes are teared up yep she's tears still

1:12:24 Clip: Look, if you're going to do something, you better do it now. I'm trying. Sister died in this room surrounded by these men and her only crime was that she was special like us don't get to live a normal life we don't need to have friends or family those people are gone that life is over

1:12:29 Thomas: Fighting actively fighting that's all after moment where we see mj frozen with a tear so we are to believe again I'm not saying it's impossible but according to cody you're you're a fucking idiot if you don't think that what has happened here is while jean gray is at her most desperate and while she's actively trying to kill spider -man and while he's just about to say we don't get to have lives those lives are gone those memories are gone while that's happening or even before that part honestly when they're they're still fighting. Is for some reason, unlocked MJ's memories. That's why she's crying. Why, why would that be? I mean, again, maybe I guess, and you could say, oh, she's lying when she's saying we don't get to have families, but like, Like it doesn't make sense. So, so like to use Cody's line, if that's what they're going for, that sucks that's not good because why why would she have done that in that moment it's one thing to say after they've reconciled at the end of the movie maybe Jean Grey could use her superpowers to do something like that would kind of make sense but in this moment when she's actively trying to kill him like she's frozen MJ and again the thing that Cody is talking about is the tear down her face and he says we specifically were supposed to see that because that's to indicate that she's got memories unlocked why would that have happened and why notably didn't it also happen to ned they're both frozen there but she only unlocked mj's memories why she's in everybody's minds if she's that powerful if her goal was to like unlock everybody's memories of spider -man for some reason she doesn't unlock ned's until later until the handshake that happens I mean again maybe maybe, but it's just like, I don't, I don't think so. Like, that doesn't, it doesn't seem right. It's at the very least, not clear. There's Cody says, they hold your hand and walk you through this, just don't know. I just think you're watching the movie very well, man. Like, hold you hand and walkyou through it if you want that to be true and you try to find a bunch of stuff to justify it. But I don' t really think that's at all clear. Arguments arguments continue to be bad there's more really

1:15:05 Clip: Later, she's seen on a rooftop holding a broken black dahlia pendant, which the audience had not seen in this movie until this point, much like we're not shown the handshake until it happens at the end. Yet here is MJ, after being mind-controlled by an unfathomably powerful person who later specifically shed a single tear while using mind powers. And now here she is with this object from her unremembered past contemplating. I'm laying all of this out just to highlight that the movie really holds your hand through this entire process. It's doling out little bits of information

1:15:37 Thomas: Hold your hand so the pendant think I want to say like I don't think that's a bad argument I don't think it's like great but I could see it being an okay argument but what I do want to say is right after the pendant he talks about how this movie really holds her hand and walks you through it just saying you know the pendant from not this movie not the last movie but the fucking movie before it he has it right there in the frame far from home 2019 and then he also has no way home but it's not featured in no way home like it's isn't drawn to it it's just something she's wearing like you can see it in no way home I didn't notice that it telling me it's holding my hand and walking me through it for me to remember the thing from 2019 like I guess I like okay I just think it's it's an example of like I like you're being a little harsh buddy like I didn't remember the fucking pendant I had no memory of that like could say it's it's for who remembers the movies pretty well but you can't really say that that's holding our hand and walking us through it like we're idiots like come on and furthermore the thing is I think it's ambiguous I maybe I could give this one 60 in the world of mj now she has lost all memory of peter parker and at this point though she knows about that at this point in the movie when she's on the rooftop with a pendant she the very end of the movie she knows that she's lost those memories the pendant could pretty easily be wow I've always had this necklace and furthermore it's also been broken and I don't remember why which I think kind of points out the absurdity of this whole premise because I actually don't think you could just erase cleanly someone's memory of an entire person that did a bunch of stuff with you like I don't like when she remembers anything in her life that involved peter like how does that work did the spell like a substitute person but that can't be right because then the pendant would have been associated with that or even Spider-Man would be associated with like so like aside that like that's don't say I could possibly work it makes sense to me that that she could in this fictional universe upon learning that she's missing this whole love by the way she also knows that peter was like the love of her life or at least they were in love and she and he really loves her like she knows all that now so I could really see her thinking about this pendant and being like wow this is I don't know where I got this she wouldn't have a memory of getting it anywhere else she wouldn't have a memory of giving from her mom or dad or whatever like she would just have had a pendant and be like where did this come from and now she could be like man he must have given this to me and furthermore it's something she likes because he got her the pendant and in far from home it like breaks and then she says she likes it better and that's a charming little thing so like she could have a feeling of like wow when I was with peter he must have given me this and I liked it enough that I was wearing it in inexplicably actually that could be more what she's realizing oh I've had this pendant that I've worn forever that I was literally wearing like out of nowhere was wearing because my memory like your memory of peter and where you got is erased but you wake up one day and you're wearing it would so would say this is like another 50-50 because this could also signify her going through the thought process of remember Cody she has a boyfriend now she has a boyfriend so this could be her kind going through that inventory of like wow I have this pendant it's meaningful to me I bet Peter gave it to me because I don't know where it came from and it could be signifying her sort of doing battle with this in her mind like do do I owe to my current boyfriend friend like it's unfair to him that all of a sudden I just had all these like realized that I had this other life that by the way she still can't remember this could signify her struggling with that decision do I break up with my boyfriend do I pursue or do something with this peter parker that I apparently was with I could see the pendant signifying that I anything it's very far away from home it's Very Far From Home is very far from the movie holding your hand and walking you to Cody's conclusion. It's very far from that.

1:19:19 Thomas: We're idiots. I

1:19:26 Clip: For for the audience to collect over the course of the film, so that they grasp that remembering Peter Parker is very much on the table, so the audience can fully understand and emotionally experience the final scene, which, Peter spent the entire film isolated and struggling, But he learned that he can allow himself to be himself and let others into his life, and that he's not only Spider -Man. So when he sees Ned at the end of the movie, he's thinking, I should start a new friendship with Ned. A brand new day. I should do what I didn't do at the beginning of the film, because in the beginning I saw Ned and quietly followed him from afar and then gave him a fake name. So this time, he walks up to Ned and introduces himself as Peter. And that's a nice little ending. Peter's making his old friend a new friend. But, then, the a look of hopefulness and determination, he throws a Hail Mary and tries to do this special little personal handshake. Miraculously, it seems to work. Ned seems to remember the handshake! Then, Ned's actor, doing some acting, makes a series of faces. He becomes visibly dazed and confused, blinks four times in one second, shakes it off, then looks up in recognition and says, Peter! Then we see Peter Parker's face, And he's beaming. Look at him! He's so f***ing happy! And that's not because Ned now knows that he's Spider -Man, which Peter could have just f***in' told him. That wasn't Peter's goal, and nothing about the handshake would communicate that to him anyway. The goal, as we see in Peter's face before he does the secret handshake, is to see if maybe it jars Ned's memory. The villain, earlier, was lying to Peter, because it turns out that True Love's kiss does work. Peter and Ned do True Love handshake, and the spell is broken. If you've seen specifically these Spider -Man movies, you know that they end with a big surprise that fundamentally changes the dynamic of the characters and the narrative. In this case, it's Ned remembering his best friend. This doesn't cheapen the story, it enhances it. At the beginning of the film, Spider -Man has been isolated and Peter Parker ostensibly doesn't even exist and hasn't for four years. Throughout the film he's beaten down, he suffers, he struggles, he sacrifices. But then he grows and evolves and learns from those struggles. And then, and this is important, he's rewarded. He gets his best friend back. It's a story! It's actually a really sweet ending, and I wish people understood what the f*** was going on here, because they would have felt nice watching it. Instead of confused and asking what's going on, it's a nice ending to the movie that's pretty good. And I'm just... I'm... I... I.... I'm so sorry for talking about the ending of Spider -Man Brand New Day so much. I've been losing my mind about this. People also seem to think that it was purposefully ambiguous. Ambiguous? Why

1:22:42 Clip: Would they do that? As we mentioned earlier regarding Inception, most movies are trying to confuse you or make you not know how to feel about something because you don't know what's happening on the screen. They don't want you to watch these two best friends do their special handshake and for you to see the protagonist smile so enormously and and for you to go, let's check the forums. No, they

1:23:12 Thomas: Already covered this, but they might want you to go, is he going to remember? Magneto going to get his powers back? Oh, it's not that you're confused. For one, I think when it comes to this scene, for reasons I've already highlighted, there is a bit of confusion because because there's like information in that the handshake doesn't directly lead to spider -man knowledge so it is a bit indirect so like I get why people are confused it the goal OF the people making the film for people to be confused I think it very much was the goal for people TO be like oh I'm not sure uh uh I'm NOT sure and I with a lot of his analysis of what's going on in the movie but he doesn't have to be rewarded with they all get their memories back perfectly because that's more like a fairy tale ending that's kind of like tacky you that's the the the kind of the shallowness that cody talked about not liking in the beginning he could be rewarded supported by the fact that now he gets his best friend back because he's gonna be best friends with Ned again mind you he got to hang out with Ned but only as Spider -Man so now this is him making that connection with Ned and maybe letting Ned in to the arrangement they had before where he now knows that he is Spider -man and he's Peter Parker that could be the look on his face by the way is also understated if peter parker thinks that ned has remembered because keep in mind if pete are there in that face right now in the video if that's supposed to be as cody says it is peter knowing that ned remembers him that would also not only be that which would blow peter Parker's mind peter would also be thinking wait shit mj could remember me too now if this this is possible. So he would be losing his fucking shit. Ned would be losing his fuckin' shit. Everybody would be losin' their shit. Instead, we get a very subdued Peter. And then Peter Parker smiling pleasantly. To me, is far more indicative of Peter has realized he no longer has to keep his distance. Because that's what he was doing. He was keeping, and Cody highlighted this, was keeping his distance from them. He He was giving them a fake name. Pleasantness there and the reward and the positivity there is, be, I'm not saying I'm a hundred percent definitely right, but it could very well be that feeling of he doesn't have to hide anymore. He can, sure, they're not going to get their memories back, but he can build new memories with them and he can kind of work toward having the relationship, if not with those memories, at least in a similar structure. And just way honestly it's way more consistent with what's going on to me view requires all this crap that I already said is completely wrong and it requires thinking the villain was lying and also that the villain fixed the memories while she was fighting and hating peter and actively and like and nihilistic but she also just fixed it and by the way again didn't fix ned's memories in that moment but somehow set him up that a handshake would by the way I didn't fix mj's memories either even though the tear is indicative that she did but then where's mj right now why wouldn't the next scene have been mj knows that they had the history yes she's like kind of touching a pendant but I feel like it would be a bigger deal than that like if she got all her memories back you don't think it'd be a bigger deal then that no this is more consistent with what I'm saying it's more consistent with they're maybe going to start anew. Then he gives what he thinks is like a knockdown argument, which is actually also bad. So let's get to that.

1:26:32 Clip: People.

1:26:33 Thomas: Also, sorry, take a second to listen to how condescending this is. I know I've highlighted it, but we are idiots. We are total fucking idiots for not seeing how simple this is they've held our hands through it. It's so obvious we don't understand. Not only do we miss something, everybody, we don't even understand the concept of movies. We don't understand art. We don't understand narrative. We don't under anything because if you're like me you don't really think this is what happened and it's just Cody, you went a little too hard on this one I think. Ultimately they do decide to have them get their memories back, man I actually don't think they will in this way. There might be another way but I don't think it'll be in this way. It this this way. It may be from Jean Grey, possibly, but I don't think that, as Cody thinks, I don'T think they already have their memories back in this part of the movie. I do not think that makes sense at all. I could be wrong. At the very least, I'm not saying you're an idiot if you do think that. I think it's like 60-40 again. I've talked myself into the fact that I actually think they were going for ambiguity here, like I said, for the sake of preserving writing options. Not to to try to confuse you but because that's practically speaking probably the best thing for them to do movie wise and business wise and everything else wise it gives you some excitement it gives you the thought like oh what's going on what's gonna happen um that's not gonna say you're an idiot if you disagree with me but cody very much thinks you're an idiot so let's see this last argument here well

1:27:56 Clip: I'm wrong about all of that,

1:27:58 Thomas: He does say this I'll give him credit it for that it

1:27:58 Clip: And this was an even more embarrassing waste of time than it's already been. Maybe it is ambiguous, or maybe it is the man realizes that this guy is Spider -Man. And if so, then my position is, that's stupid. That's a bad ending. It should have been a good ending that elicited an emotion. But

1:28:17 Thomas: Still elicits an emotion again like you're gonna accuse people of not being able to watch movies I think the emotion of going from having to hide yourself from your best friend give a fake name and have not a real relationship at all just like kind of stalk him a little bit going from that to realizing you can let them in it's still every bit as emotional what cody's interpretation and in fact I think it's better because again if Cody's interpretation is right it's just Disney we're just well okay it is kind of Disney but it's just like a story where like and in the end everything was better and they all and blah blah blah and just don't think it's that like I think I think these movies these superhero movies they're a little you know they're little that they're able simplistic and also like a little bit more sophisticated than that especially the spider -man ones like Like, I you don't think we're getting Aunt May back or DON'T THINK WE'RE GETTIN' THESE MEMORIES BACK. I ACTUALLY, ACTUALLY DON'T. I MEAN, MAYBE. IF THEY GET THE MEMORIES BACK, I'LL PUT, HERE'S MY PREDICTION, AND WE CAN SEE WHO'S RIGHT IN SEVERAL YEARS WHEN WE'VE ALL FORGOTTEN THIS. THEY GOT THE MEMORY BACK, IT WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE NEXT MOVIE AFTER SOME THINGS THEY HAVE TO DO. I don't think we will start the next movie and they remember Peter because also just not writing there's not really a good way to do it I mean he makes the comparison to Aunt May learning it's him but that's like kind of a I think that sets up more conflict kind of works as the start of a movie versus this which is like kind of it's just a resolution you would be weird to put that at the beginning of the next movie. I think, they're I going to have to earn it somehow, maybe from Jean Grey doing it, or honestly, I Think the better choices, they just don't get the memories back. I Think they build the relationship from where they are. I think Peter, by the way, if they do that, I think Peter can fill them in on memories. And like, that can be part of the process of becoming close again is learning stuff from Peter, from his point of view of what happened but think it has every bit of the emotional ending that Cody wants and thinks is so brilliant and not the really stupid kid's story of it which is that they all lived happily ever after because he got everything he wanted in the end I think this is better than Cody's making out to be so here's where he uh gives another last bad argument here so

1:30:38 Clip: In the middle of the movie, before before the spell is cast to erase everybody's memory, Ned, with Doctor Stranger's magic blast knuckles in his hand, does the special handshake with Peter, and this happens. See you later, Doctor. You too.

1:30:56 Clip: I could've just shown that, actually, instead of all this stuff. But I didn't. Maybe I should have, but I didn t. So, yeah, Ned probably remembers Peter not just because of everything they showed in in the movie, but why because peter is so happy in the final image. Congratulations peter, we're so happy for you. Good job at the good ending of your movie. I know that I have spent far too much time on the final scene of spider -man brand new day. Just stop asking destin daniel crevin what the end of his movie meant. You're supposed to know. And I really don't think it's his or the actor's fault that you don't Just tell him you understand and that he's sweet and that you liked it God, so, yeah, I hope, I, I You know what? Good, I Hope I was, that was worth it I hope I've convinced you Ah,

1:31:49 Thomas: That's the end of it now let's go back to that now that seems like a good point right oh again to make the point he makes here he has to fudge the details he makes it sound like they did this handshake right before the spell and ned like encoded memories into it and therefore when they did the handshake again they all came back now that's that's a cool theory like could be maybe but it's not as knocked down or plausible as Cody makes it out to be, because remember the point I made several times, things good evidence is stuff that really doesn't need to be there, but is this thing needs to be there. You know why Cody mentions it? He has Dr. Strange's little thingy there at this point. Ned does not know at all at this part of the movie that I'm showing visually for listeners. I guess this is early. This is very early in the previous movie. Very early in the previous move, Ned ends up and is playing with Doctor Strange's little hand thing, but Ned has no idea that he has magic powers. So, they need a way for Ned to figure out that he could be a little magical. So what do they do? They have them do this handshake. And at the very end of the handshake, a little puff of little lightning magic that comes out. This might sound dumb because I'm just explaining to you you the the surface level meaning and cody would tell you that there's more meaning here it's a hidden thing there isn't it's actually just the surface sometimes it's just the things you need for the action because at this point in the movie they have no fucking idea that anyone's memory is going to get erased at all they have not idea that's not part there's way too early in the movie they absolutely no idea that that's going to happen so this would require ned to see into to the future and by the way before he's figured his magic powers out he this is just telling him the function of this handshake is for him to do enough hand motions to figure out that he has a magical gift with the dr strange finger thingy that I don't again I'm not a big fan to know what that is but I have seen enough of the movies to know dr strange or anyone cannot do these magic spells without that little trinket vitally important to this very movie movie um way home because they trap dr strange or spider -man does in that dimension thing without his fingery thingy without his trinket and he cannot get out so you cannot do magic without that fingery thinking why is that important well because the time that they do do the handshake before the spell ned doesn't have the trinkets thing dr strange has it because he's doing the the spell he's like in the middle of doing the spell so is again I think cody playing a little fast and loose to could be what they decide to do but it would be a little weird for cody's theory to be correct like there's a reason cody shows you this one and not the one that happens right before the spell because I think if you showed that one it's weird that he didn't but if I think it's because you'd see that he doesn't have the magic fingery thing and again you cannot do the magic spells unless they decide to make ned so magical that he could not only do magic but also without the fingery thingy he's just so good at that point which that's not right I don't think that's it so what cody does is he shows you this one where there's a little spark after they do their handshake which again is just the only function of it which it definitely has to happen it's not extraneous they need a way for ned to figure out that he can do magic that he could actually like use this trinket thing otherwise why would he have any idea I don't even know that he knows actually come to think of it yeah I don't know how much ned even knows about dr stranger the mechanics of these spells or anything does I'm not a big enough fan and someone fill me in if you have better info on that but I think this is far from extraneous this needs to happen for ned to even start down the path of experimenting with magic and says though that he's magic and he encoded this handshake with magic not possible because at this time just to review one more final time at this point in the movie there's no indication that anyone's going to to lose any memories and ned is just figuring out that he might have magic powers but no he thought ahead at this point and has enough magic powers to encode all his memories with specifically peter into a handshake because he might lose them later that's fucking stupid man you don't know how to watch movies if you think that's what it is now it's possible I think it's unlikely it's It's possible that they could try to have it be that the handshake they did right before the spell was cast when Dr. Strange had the trinket, that that somehow did it. Then notably, if that gets Ned his memories back, then that's like a secondary method to Jean Grey's brain powers. So Jean Grey brain powers then had nothing to do at all with Ned getting his memories which is like that's just another weird thing yet another when razor that's yet another weird assumption you have to make that she didn't unlock ned's memories but he just so happened to have another independent impossible way that he protected his own memories impossibly I I'm man no way I'm so these are bad arguments these are bad arguments of was just people talking about a movie casually I wouldn't give a shit this is somebody with a really big channel not only saying you're a fucking idiot if you disagree with them but that you can't you don't even know how to watch a movie and uh for that reason I wanted to stick up for anyone who maybe thought felt attacked by this because uh he's full of shit like cody got it's not he's not just kind of wrong like all his his arguments are incredibly bad um for like maybe the pendant kind of like that's not good arguments he doesn't have good arguments for his point um all and some of them are actively terrible and wrong and so when you're accusing people of not knowing how to watch movies maybe you don't get everything wrong that's all I'm saying that being said I love cody I actually still enjoy the video I think he's really funny I think that that YouTube channel is great. Fully support it. I watched the rest of of the YouTube video and also enjoyed that. So this is by no means an attack on Cody at maybe think, think twice on this. This was, this was not a good take. This was not good. A good way to go. So there you have it. I hope that this was something. Know this was a little bit different me, for my normal thing, which if you're just seeing this on YouTube, I guess guess you wouldn't know, but I hope you enjoyed it, I hope everyone enjoyed it. Much for listening, slash, viewing, and, uh, I love this movie, I love Spider -Mans, they're so fun. Look, Dean Dobbin, anyway, I'm out of here, see ya.
