0:00:00 Clip: We got it!
0:00:29 Matt: All right, happy indictment day to you.
0:00:32 Thomas: Matt, start yodeling. You told - Matt swore that he has the best yodel, like he's just gonna full-on - he swore - I don't know why you're getting shy about it. You - okay. We're gonna pretend you didn't tell me you're the best yodeler. No, just kidding. That was the expertise that he was bringing in. And we're joined by Lydia, too. Happy Indictment Day to everybody. And to - and Unto you, and peace - indictments be unto you, and yeah, I don't know how we'll figure it out, we'll figure out how that works, uh,
0:00:41 Matt: Yodel -ay -no, yodel -a -no. All right. Cheers. Didn' have time to get you anything, I'm sorry. All
0:01:02 Thomas: Well, we got ourselves something. I wanted to have in here, because I've been saving a very fancy bottle of champagne for when Trump is either in jail or dies. And at first I was like, yeah, we can open that. I was like, oh no wait, he's not in jail or dying yet. But then I realized, like, we have like a second, second best champagne, it's like close enough, I said close enough, we've earned it. It's been God knows however many years that we've been waiting for anything like any sort of justice. And, uh, you know, I, I figured we, we've burned it, so I wanted to have Lydia in here for a little toast. Happy indictment day, everybody. I think.
0:01:39 Matt: Right cheers, very good.
0:01:41 Thomas: Matt is up, I'm gonna say at least 0.2 decibels, like that's fucking psyched. Mattis, yeah.
0:01:47 Matt: You might even hear the excitement in my voice. It could happen.
0:01:53 Thomas: Yeah. You, uh, are you partaking in any celebratory, um, substances of any kind that you can talk about?
0:01:59 Matt: I got a dram of Johnny Black and whatever else is legal in Massachusetts. Jesus, and
0:02:03 Thomas: Oh, cool. Oh, here, I'm popping this one, ready, it'll be fine, jeez. We also have guests, uh, starring Remy, he's not, he's not saying anything, but, uh, but Remy's only – think about how nice this is from Remy's point of view, everybody. He's three months old and he's already gotten a Trump indictment under his belt. That must be – he barely even had to live with it. He'll grow up and be like, yeah, that guy's always been criminal. You never knew him as president.
0:02:31 Matt: Happening.
0:02:31 Thomas: Here's to that. I don't know. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. True. All right. Here's a nice glass for the amazing who's somehow managing our entire brood of children. While I'm able to record with Matt on an emergency basis. So cheers, hon. It's worth it. You've earned it. You've learned this too. We've all earned this. We've been through a lot. And cheers applies to any and all water, whatever beverage of your choice or no beverage. Really something, Matt. It's really, like, it is. I mean it's so stupid. It would have to be this stupid one. But, like, still, any justice is amazing. Like, it just, I'll take any, I said it when we first started. I'll tak any justice of any kind. Jaywalking, anything.
0:03:12 Matt: No, and I just sat down and started listing out the other countries that have actually indicted heads of state. It's a lot longer than you might think, it's very, very long Wikipedia entry actually, but uh, we're joining a very special club with Italy, Portugal, Romania, Brazil, South Korea, Peru, Nicaragua, Argentina, Guatemala, and dozens more, actually. So.
0:03:19 Thomas: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I was going to say, France, for sure. I know that, like Chirac and, right? Are we qualifying that at all, though? Because I know there's a lot of, like. You know, authoritarian countries where. If there's an attack. If there was a takeover. You know. Maybe the last person is arrested on. Well. Well, I was going to say on false pretenses, but let's be real. It's probably also probably plenty of criming to go around. But are you talking like, you know, what seemingly, you legitimate indictments or just any indictments of any kind?
0:03:31 Matt: Oh, no no doubt. At some point, yeah.
0:03:44 Matt: Yeah. Yeah. Trying to limit it to democratic governments with functioning justice systems, yes.
0:04:00 Thomas: Gotcha. Gotcha.
0:04:01 Matt: Yeah. All
0:04:01 Thomas: I have to say before I step out to manage all these children and animals, that for me, I know it's, you know, in terms of crimging, it's not the most egregious thing. I don't know, know there's something kind of like poetic about it, that empowering as a woman to feel like the situation in which a woman is involved in feels cool. Yeah, I mean, Stormy, in the end, yeah, I can't believe it hung around this long and then was the thing. It's amazing. So, all right, thanks so much, on, enjoy, uh, enjoy our nice indictment champagne. Yes, thank you, and I'll see you in a few, okay, ah, is crazy, all right, man, let's, tell me what's going on here. This, um, is it, is it, uh, Al Capone, as you said earlier, with his taxes, is it, I just, hot off the presses, is, don't a think it's a leak, I think, think it's perhaps, did they issue a press release, I don't know, but, 34 counts
0:04:29 Matt: Right, good, night. I don't think they've spoken, yeah. I think that these are things I'm sure the DA wants us to know, but I don't think they've said a thing, uh, but yeah. 34 counts of business records, as was, that was what I saw, like, something, things with business records.
0:04:50 Thomas: Oh, that's a lot of Stormies, how many, how many Stormies we got on this ship anyhow?
0:05:04 Matt: It's always divisible by a couple of Stormies. Yeah, uh, but it's, I mean, I'm thinking wire fraud, tax fraud, who knows what else is in there, what else isn't the package, but, and it could be more than Stormy, that's the thing, is we don't actually know, it's all connected to her, there certainly could be any number of other things, this grand jury has been looking at lots of other Trump crimes, and there's so many to go around, so it'd be nice if there's some sweeteners in here, sure.
0:05:04 Thomas: Yeah. Yeah.
0:05:24 Thomas: And you said it, you know. So I was the one, I think the first time we recorded, where I, I was a little bit wrong. I want to cop to being a little bit wrong, but I want also to your horn a little bit. Cause I don't think you've, you've on that at all. I think you were like, well, it could be whatever, it could be, his lawyers told him that, could be nothing. And so I just want to, I just wanna say, Matt, I think You are batting a thousand right now. Like I think everything you've said about this so far, I mean, I don't know how wrong you are in your everyday life. I won't, I won'T vouch for that. But in terms of this show, Matt, you, you really nailed it. I was the one who thought if he said Tuesday, it seemed weird to just pick a day because you would so obviously be shown to be full of shit, I you guess he doesn't care about being full of Shit.
0:05:40 Matt: Just talking well, for for you, right, if it were, you, you wouldn't do that, but but I
0:06:03 Thomas: Yeah. Well, or I mean, they could have called an audible, right? I mean maybe it was intended to be Tuesday and there was, you Know, there was that other witness that we, We, you know, maybe they, maybe they didn't know. But anyway, I will say that my overall point was, I felt like it's impossible that this was nothing. Felt that there's no way he was going to just say, oh, they're going to indict me for like, and they weren't. Like, so I at least would say that. Good.
0:06:25 Matt: Knew it was coming. We knew it's coming. Yeah, absolutely. Now we knew that was coming and there's no question. It's amazing that we know as much as we do. It's honestly, I don't want to say it's a shame because I like knowing these things and I'm just as happy to know than not know. But it's incredible that we knew as much from this grand jury as we knew. This stuff is really supposed to be under seal. The New York Times apparently had five sources, which that just seems like five too many when you're talking about a sealed indictment.
I But just want to read you here, this is from the New York Times. The The three lead prosecutors in the Trump investigation walked into the building where the grand jury was sitting minutes before the panel was scheduled to meet at 2 p.m. One carried a copy of the penal law with sticky notes visible that would have been needed to read the criminal statutes to the grand jurors before they voted. About three hours later, the prosecutors walked into the court clerk's office through a back door to begin the process of filing the indictment.
0:06:42 Thomas: Right.
0:07:02 Thomas: What? Wow.
0:07:13 Matt: And there it is.
0:07:13 Thomas: And also Thomas Smith, You're wearing a black shirt right now and, like, they really spiking the football in terms of sources that they have, yeah. Furthermore,
0:07:18 Matt: Yeah. Lots of detail. Yeah, I know. It's great. The sticky notes, I do like the sticky notes. It's
0:07:25 Thomas: The prosecutor's number, number, if you'd like to know, is that so.
0:07:25 Matt: Nice, right? Yeah, yeah, no, so this is, it's really happening, they're really filing an indictment, um,
0:07:32 Thomas: The norm, normally this, we, there, just be some poor ham sandwich whose name we'd never know, and it would just be
0:07:38 Matt: He'd be getting arrested at dinner or whatever, right? I mean, and this guy
0:07:38 Thomas: Yeah yep, and we'd ever know about it if it weren't Trump. Right. I mean, no, but, like, real question, like, that's the ordinary course of grand juries. I guess, I mean, grand jurys are kind of extraordinary. Well, I guess not really, right? I mean, are they somewhat common even just for, you, non-criminal ex -presidents like you or I?
0:07:42 Matt: Yeah Sure. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, regular grand jury, this is a very special grand jury for a special boy, but we get these regular juries all the time, regular, regular, grand juries are, what, do indictments, right?
0:08:03 Thomas: Okay, gotcha.
0:08:05 Matt: So, uh, and at
0:08:06 Thomas: Oh, oh, oh really? Oh, I thought it was sometimes, oh okay, I didn't know that, I don't know.
0:08:10 Matt: In, in states like Massachusetts, I don't know how other places do it, but most places it takes his grand jury to get an indictment.
0:08:12 Thomas: Oh okay, and we wouldn't hear about it, right, the got
0:08:17 Matt: You wouldn't know what's happening until it's happened to you and you're being Led away. But this is a very different world that we're in with Trump. He's always breathing different air than we are. So that's what we got. At
0:08:19 Thomas: Cha, yeah. Criminal air, orange orange criminal spray tan.
0:08:26 Matt: Um, Tasty, yeah.
0:08:30 Thomas: Yeah. I can't be good on the lungs. No way. Wow. Okay. Um, thank you for taking time out of your Thursday evening, uh, to record. I just, this, this felt so I've, I've never had Lydia on for a toast before. So I'll just say, you know, this was, this feels very special to me. I mean, this is a mate. Seriously. Like we've been waiting for this forever. He's fucking indicted. Like Like, it's amazing. It's so amazing. I'm so happy. I can't believe it. Now, I just want to, you know, reality check. Like, is there some way that this becomes nothing or some shit? Like, what's going to happen next, Matt? And how enthused should we be or not be?
0:08:33 Matt: Yeah.
0:08:44 Matt: Was fun. Well, Allegedly he's going to turn himself in, we'll talk about that in a minute about where this goes. So just let's just assume that everything is nice and orderly and goes exactly as expected, and he goes and turns himself in and he gets before a judge. So, and again, they're not going to hold him because it's a non-violent felony, they're not allowed to hold and charge bail on something like this in New York.
0:09:24 Matt: So He'll be released to go or be arraigned before the judge, that's when he's officially indicted. Once that arraignment comes in, you know, once it's, then, then it actually enters his criminal record. We can just take a moment to appreciate that, that's After arraignment, that's one. It, even if everything is dropped the next day, he'll still have a criminal record over this, and the first former president or president to ever have one, um,
0:09:24 Thomas: Fair enough.
0:09:34 Thomas: Wow.
0:09:44 Thomas: Know, him not having a criminal criminal record is sort of like the old thing that Gordie Howe only had, like, one GordIE Howe hat trick. You know, there are a few sports ball people in the last one who liked our baseball talk, but that, man, that's a really good fucking joke. I hope there's at least a few people who know what that means. The Didn't point is, it's called a Gordy Howe hat trick, but he only had like not that many. He only had two. And that means you got, yeah, that means that you scored a goal, got an assist. I don't know why the assist is part of it, but scored a goal, got an assist, and got in a fight. So the thing that's named after Gordie Howe, one of the most prolific, short of Wayne Gretzky, probably the second most famous hockey player ever, it's named After him, and he only had two in his entire career, which is really funny. And how I feel about Trump. The Trump criminal record precedes
0:09:50 Matt: But But With Style, You do It With style. Sure. I'm Sure.
0:10:33 Thomas: Him. Like it's he's famous for it even though he has, wait, he has no criminal record right now, right? Like none.
0:10:36 Matt: No, No.
0:10:40 Thomas: God, that's fucking unreal.
0:10:40 Matt: Zero. Yeah, but he, I mean, he has in our hearts, he certainly has a criminal record, but
0:10:45 Thomas: Would be like if Gordie Howe had negative 5,000 Gordie Howe hat tricks somehow. I don't know how that would be, but that's what that's like.
0:10:51 Matt: So that's the point, which I'll have a criminal market. So the next logical thing for his attorneys to do is to file a motion to dismiss the indictment and to say that these are bullshit charges, that this is trumped up, it's political, and here's, there's nothing to it, right? So that's the next thing I would expect, and that'll take a while because they've got 34 counts to respond to, and maybe they're already working on something, but um, can you, can cut it off for the past at that point, but otherwise, assuming that doesn't happen, which, if you're looking for bad news and the worst possible thing that can happen, it gets dismissed immediately, that doesn't happen, I don't see it, it's Going to go forward, um,
0:11:19 Thomas: Yeah. And you brought up that quote from, again, about sources. It's like, imagine I every single grand juror is wanting to get in on this because like you said, that one was like, yeah, if everybody knew what we knew, you know, there would be no, and I it's hard to be hopeful. It was hard to be hopeful, but like, I'm I was pretty certain he was going to get indicted. Cause like, you never know, like you never know what's bullshit sources or whatever, but there's enough evidence coming together in in the lead up to this, that is like, yeah, I mean, this looks like a real fucking shit. It's just the justice system takes so goddamn much longer than I ever thought. And so the odds that it was just getting getting dismissed that, I mean, that seems virtually zero. I mean there's no, unless there's a judge fucking what's his, what's her name or what's His name. The two Trump judges that we have history of that are not in New York. I don't think unless there is a really Trumpy judge, I can't imagine this getting dismissed. Right?
0:11:32 Matt: Yeah. Yeah.
0:12:12 Matt: No. No, no. And we're certainly not getting a Trumpy jury in Manhattan. So we have that too. There's going to be a jury. I just have to laugh about that for a minute. If he's smart, maybe there won't be a judge. Who knows? Question, but though, about his actual orderly appearance, I think it's worth addressing for a moment because he's got four days to not appear and to really think it over and to stew and pace around and actually decide whether or or not he wants to come up to New York City and turn himself in. And Ron DeSantis just helpfully said, "Florida will not assist in an extradition request," given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda. Florida will not assist. I think Florida will never assist. That should just be on the license plates.
0:12:16 Thomas: Yeah. Hmm. Ooh.
0:12:52 Thomas: Love him having it every different way. Look, it's a completely, uh, but the woke, uh trans, you know, just whatever the buzz buzzwords of the, the right are, but also, I mean, fuck that guy. Am I right? We're not helping him.
0:12:56 Matt: Exactly.
0:13:07 Matt: Yeah. Well, right. He's trying to have it both ways, too, because he gets to act tough and say, well, of course, I wouldn't have signed off on that. But he knows he's going to turn himself in, right? So it doesn't really matter. It's the guy at the bar. He's very happy the police showed up. I would have whipped you.
0:13:10 Thomas: Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
0:13:20 Matt: I think, I don't know, there is still some possibility that Trump changes his mind and it gets real weird. I looked into this too, just for fun, because I couldn't help myself. The Constitution does require that we participate in these things, that states help each other. Person charged in any state with treason, felony, or other crime shall flee from justice to be found in their state shall on demand of the executive authority of the state from which he fled be delivered up. It's pretty simple.
And I looked into this, and actually, DeSantis only has a ministerial role. He doesn't actually get to do very much to decide whether or not, so he has to review the documents, but he's got to sign off on them. And if he doesn't, he could be subject to actual legal proceedings. I'm not sure exactly what those proceedings would be. Apparently this is not a big decision he gets to make. It is essentially just reviewing the documents. The governor's power to stop an extradition is really non-existent.
This is from the Palm Beach prosecutor. He can try to delay it, and he can send it to committee and do research about it, but his role is really ministerial. Ultimately, the state of New York can go to court and get an order to extradite the former president. DeSantis could delay matters. So a judicial warrant could eventually get this done, I guess, without the executive, is what he's suggesting.
0:14:20 Thomas: If Mike Pence does the right thing, then this never a lot of, a lot of ministerial type roles that, uh you know Trump just, Just couldn't, I don't know if it's bad luck for him or what, but it's a lot, of a couple times now it's ended up with a mysterious ministerial role instead of a real role. I guess we must have a lot of those, I don't know.
0:14:28 Matt: Right, right, totally.
0:14:40 Matt: Mike Pence actually has my favorite quote of the night. He complained that this indictment targeted one particular American, which I think is very funny. Like, what's an indictment usually do? How many Americans are you going for? I just really enjoyed that. That's his problem with it, is it's one person. You narrowed it down.
0:14:48 Thomas: Yeah.
0:14:59 Thomas: It's Like it's Not polite To point or something, you Know, like if You're gonna indict, do it like, you know, kind of indict like a Broad, like, oh
0:15:02 Matt: Right, exactly. Yeah. Just wave in the direction of a crowd of people and don't be rude.
0:15:12 Thomas: Way to call him out with that whole indictment, jeez, I Love I Love all the Fox News crap. Oh, oh, you gave me a clip to play. Shit, I don't have it ready to play, but I'll put it in the show.
0:15:15 Matt: One particular American. Yeah. So that was enjoyable. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, stick it in. It's so good. Incredible. It's literally, as Fox is announcing it, there's gasps, and, oh, God, you know, just in the background, the newsroom. It's
0:15:26 Thomas: Yeah, Oh, okay. I'll play it. I'll pay it right now for everybody.
0:15:36 Clip: We're gonna break in with this
0:15:37 Thomas: And
0:15:37 Clip: Fox News alert here. We have just gotten word former President Donald Trump has been indicted by a grand jury in New York. Trump was under investigation by the DA's office for his alleged hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 campaign. So as we await more information, Fox News has just learned this from two law enforcement sources that Trump has has been indicted.
0:16:01 Thomas: Great.
0:16:01 Matt: It's wonderful.
0:16:01 Thomas: I have loved the Fox News and it's not really the Fox Newspople as much as the, you know, the bullshit guests they have on doing the like, well, if it could happen to Trump, guess what, Americans?
0:16:13 Matt: Yeah, right, right. They're coming for you. That's right.
0:16:16 Thomas: Tomorrow, you're going to wake up with an indictment under your bed, like the horse in the Godfather. And if they can go after Trump, I just love that. If they can go after the very visible public criminal, then they can for some reason go after you.
0:16:21 Matt: Yeah. Whom's among us? Yeah. Yeah, this shit
0:16:34 Thomas: So weird.
0:16:34 Matt: Is working, though. He's raising a lot of money off it. I mean, that was really, looking back, the main reason he announced he was going to get arrested because he's making hundreds of thousands of dollars a day off of this and that's a crime in itself, I mean those people are not in a position, I'm assuming most of those people aren't in a situation to give a lot of money that he's squeezing money out of, but maybe I'm assuming too much but
0:16:36 Thomas: Yeah, sure. Yeah. Yeah. And do you mean it's an actual crime? Because I guess, it he has spent it, I think, in where or funneled it in ways that may be actual crimes, right in the past, yeah.
0:16:51 Matt: Yeah No, it ought to be because there's no way this is all going to a campaign, it just, he had all these other bills to pay and everything else, um, bought a new plane, I think, or remodeled his plane, like that kind of stuff costs eventually. But also in response, the New York Police Department, did you see the order they just put out? A little scary.
0:17:01 Thomas: Yeah no I didn't, wow.
0:17:13 Matt: Ordered every single officer of the New York Police Department to be prepared to deploy tomorrow in uniform, literally all of them. 36,000 people, people. So yeah, they're expecting, and again, just to be safe, I mean certainly after watching January 6th, nobody wants to be cut but this
0:17:19 Thomas: Geez yeah well yeah right I was gonna say you don't want to make that fucking mistake again, Jesus. Yeah.
0:17:30 Matt: Is who knows what he tweets tomorrow about this and, you know, tries to get people to do, but yeah.
0:17:34 Thomas: I want it needs to be like he turns himself in and there's just, the you know, the the shitty Matrix sequels where there's all the Agent Smiths like on a line, it needs be that with the police and they're just like all making sure that he, that he does it. I like that option rather than, you know, some shit actually going down and then being required. I don't like that as much. I so really do hope he just goes quietly because it, boy, could turn real ugly.
0:17:44 Matt: Right right totally yeah it's
0:18:01 Thomas: Real fast
0:18:01 Matt: Could get messy it could get very messy, not just on the the local, but on a national level. I mean, I really think about the the split, the strife over this. Something as simple as DeSantis even delaying the extradition warrant and causing friction over it. Will say, not to go dark, we'll go light again in a minute here, but I also had to see what the Tucker Carlson program had to say about some things. And I will say, I copied in this quote here. Is from Jason Whitlock, who used to be an ESPN. I don't know him, but they're agitating for unrest. That is the only way to interpret that. I'm ready, ready for whatever's next, he said, and I hope every other man out there watching this show, I hope you're ready for whatever's next. If that's what they want, let's get to it, men, I guess. Oh,
0:18:02 Thomas: Yeah yeah I mean either who is the they, are the, are they talking about this police, uh, move, or oh
0:18:46 Matt: No. This is about us, they're saying if that you know
0:18:48 Thomas: Oh. A weird. Oh, do we, do I have to do something? Shit. Was I supposed to help with it turning himself in? Well, I mean, I definitely had a role in the indictment. Like I was part of that process. Well, what the fuck do you mean? What are you talking about? That was a confusing quote because I don't know who the they is. You know what? That could just be Fox News's other name, though. I don'T KNOW WHO THE THEY IS. Who's the they that you're scaremongering off of? Yeah.
0:18:49 Matt: Yes yeah apparently yeah I know, um yeah right it's there's always a there always somebody, but
0:19:13 Thomas: Always a they. Me guess. Tucker Tucker Carlson's face. I can, I'm pretty sure I could exactly picture what it looked like while that was being said.
0:19:14 Matt: Yeah, I same as it always looks, but just slightly confused, and better than you, um. I mean, that's this kind of shit. I I've been seeing more and more of this kind of talk and you know, a national divorce is one thing, but telling men out there watching the show, I hope you're ready for whatever's next, that's pretty specific, um. They just know that only men are watching because it's Tucker Carlson, but yeah.
0:19:22 Thomas: Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
0:19:40 Thomas: Amount that, you know, toxic masculinity is linked to this very thing, like this kind of fascism and going going for these type of people, these type of leaders. It's remarkable. Like, if you really start noticing it, it's just crazy. I mean, there's a reason everything is framed in that way. It is yeah. So I think that's very intentional. That's you people are constantly by threat, quote unquote, threats to their manhood. And again, this is things they think are threats to their menhood. Like for example, trans people, you know existing or whatever. Gay people existing or whatever. It s a lot of people existing. That s That's why they're the ultimate snowflakes. They're just so triggered by all that stuff all the time. And it really, I get, it's crazy to me. They have linked masculinity to tradition, I think. And like, you know, the left is against all of that because we want to murder the family and culture or whatever, whatever they think.
0:19:46 Matt: Yeah no no sure sure oh
0:20:34 Thomas: And ingrained in them that I think it makes sense that that messaging is that way. I don't think it's just a like, well, men take arms. I think there's more to it, maybe. I could be wrong.
0:20:42 Matt: No for sure, no, you know, stand up in traditional men, you know, fight for the values or whatever, but, uh, you know, transphobia is absolutely linked to all of this. And, uh, I mean, if you see some of the really scary talk from the the shooting the other day, um, know the way they're talking about trans people and gun rights and anyway, we're, we're getting darker here. We should probably pull back toward the light.
0:20:42 Thomas: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Let's, let's turn to the positive.
0:21:02 Matt: Is a celebration. Come on now. What am I talking about Civil War for? None of that.
0:21:03 Thomas: Yeah, yeah. Right. So he turns himself in. So you said he has a while to do that. What's the timing again? I've had a few glasses of champagne.
0:21:11 Matt: He has more time than you and I would, I'll tell you that. Just, again, like you were talking about a couple weeks ago, checking your calendar, your golf schedule, making sure that it's convenient for everybody. But you also can't have the NYPD approaching with handcuffs when he's got a full Secret Service detail. They could get really messy.
0:21:20 Thomas: Yeah. Oh my God. I forgot about that. That is, that is a genuine question, right? Is whether he gets secret service in prison, yeah.
0:21:29 Matt: So it's so weird yeah That's going to be debated for a while, I mean, he has to because they're required by law to be everywhere with him, so somebody's got to serve some time with him, but even for now, they have to go down to the police station with him and uh they have to surround him. Well, I don't, I don't know that anybody's ever been arrested with a secret service detail before.
0:21:37 Thomas: Yeah yeah that is so funny no there's
0:21:49 Matt: Because, you know, they also erect they they protect the families too, so who knows, maybe some teenage kid got in trouble at some point, we didn't know about, but uh, nothing that I can think of, for the secret service would have needed to protect somebody in police custody. So,
0:21:50 Thomas: No way do You think the secret service is telling the secret surface about how to be in prison, all right, you gotta stab the first guy. You see, sorry, that's just but I have a gun, no, I know, but you gotta make like a shitty knife. To, I,
0:22:06 Matt: Yeah. Right, right. Yeah, do they get to bring, they'd have to bring their guns? This is, I've
0:22:15 Thomas: I'm fucking, who knows? This is, this is all make it's so not at all. I'm, I think this will have an effect. I really do like anywhere near, you the diehards over to the reason or anything like that, but I, I do think there's a fair number of people, especially with the tight margins of our our country in our elections. You know, they're so unbelievably tight. I know the people and it's none of you or, you know, Matt or me or anyone listening. It's the people who are not at all dialed in. I mean, it's the, it'S the people when I was getting a haircut on the day, the Mueller report came out there. I was like, Oh yeah, big news. And they're like, what the fucking Mueller report? Like, it was a pretty big deal. Or maybe it was an impeachment, something, it was something major. And I was Like, so
0:22:18 Matt: Got to think that out.
0:22:36 Matt: Yeah. Sure.
0:22:59 Thomas: You don't know anything that's like, nah, I don't really care. And there's a lot of people like that. They're not bad people or whatever. They, you know, the, the capitalism.
0:23:03 Matt: Yeah? They're very happy people, in fact, many of them.
0:23:07 Thomas: Yeah. Well, or they're just, you know, they've got fucking 10 jobs and are trying to get by in our terrible economy. You know, like they don't have time for it. And there'S a lot OF people like THAT who I think rely on these heuristics, you KNOW, of like, well, if he was so bad, I don't get why, why hasn't he been arrested? Like, it must be the left's kind of making it up if he's, you Know, if they say, they say he commits a crime every day, so they must be lying. Yeah, like I think there's going to be some people who, I'm not talking about the Trumpers, I'm talking about the people who are like sort of conservative, people probably vote Republican because out of habit, you and I don't know how many people this is, I'm not sure, but I think it's, I think it's a few, I think, I think it's gonna
0:23:13 Matt: No, of course, of Of course. Yeah, it's true.
0:23:44 Thomas: Make a difference I
0:23:44 Matt: But counterpoint, I have to suggest that this is, as we've learned in the last two weeks, this crime is pretty difficult to explain.
0:23:50 Thomas: Don't think that matters, I don't think that matters do you all
0:23:52 Matt: I don't know. I don' t know. I think it might matter a little more.
0:23:55 Thomas: That matters is if he gets arrested and goes to somewhere, that's all that meant honestly, right I
0:23:58 Matt: No, I'm with you. I'm w ith you. But in terms of hearts and minds, I t ink it's a lot harder to
0:24:01 Thomas: Know I agree no that's what I'm saying, like I I think in terms of hearts and minds, they're going to be like, oh, fuck, he was arrested. Okay.
0:24:03 Matt: Explain for something. That's true, but
0:24:08 Thomas: Maybe. I don't know.
0:24:08 Matt: If it just seems like kind of a political thing that's hard to explain and a lot of people might not see it as you know, it sorry, but I think there's something to it, we're both right, we're about time, but sure
0:24:12 Thomas: Yeah. Yeah. Fair. No, you're right. Yeah. Yeah. I think probably different kinds of people would respond different ways. I do think that, you know, the right's going to double down, obviously. Now, 34 counts. I joke that that's a lot of stormies. How these, I know this is not your exact area of law with the white collar, whatever. Whatever. But like, what are the odds in your mind that that's, I don't know, one stormy, two stormies, three stormies. You know, like 34 counts. But I also, it seems like a lot, but I also know they tend to do that where it's like, yeah, and you wrote this form that that and that form and it's all one crime, but it's, like, you know, you filled out 34 carbon copies of it or something.
0:24:33 Matt: Right right exactly Well, then he did, I think what I've seen before was he wrote 11 checks, so that's just 11 off the bat very likely, and maybe if you say that every one of those checks was also wire fraud and was also some tax fraud, right then you can stack them. Uh I mean, obviously he's just trying to nail him to of the wall and make sure that he's got enough that something will stick because it has to. This absolutely has to work. He's the first person to indict a former president. So they've known that the whole time. And who knows? I'm just extrapolating here, but it's also possible, because of the nature of this grand jury, that there are other things we don't know about, as we were talking about last week, that there's all kinds of other factors and variables that just are outside of our ability to know. And really, we shouldn't know as much as as we do, so that's where we're at. Well
0:25:05 Thomas: Sure. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if there's, I don't know if it'll, you know, a game changer, but just my intuition from everyone's been so fucking conservative and reticent, as you say, the first person ever to indict a sitting president. Kind I of lean toward maybe there is a little bit more. We don't especially with that quote from from the grand juror, you like wouldn't you believe it. I mean, I don'T think someone says that if it's just the complicated theory you laid out the other episode. I don't know.
0:25:56 Matt: Michael, Michael Cohen said as much too, uh, tonight Yeah, he was saying he's, he's been in front of the grand jury something like 22 times at this point talking about different things and he's brought in documents. It just sounds like it might be more than again they're trying to be extremely thorough with this one thing we do know about, but it seems like there must be more, but we'll find out very soon, it'll be unsealed and I'm sure we'll talk about it sure
0:25:58 Thomas: Oh, really? Yeah. Yeah. Mm hmm. Fantastic. Any other thoughts before I am so behind in editing, but I can't can't pass this up. And this is such big news. I want to thank you so much again for being on short notice. Is were intending to record on, I think, Sunday, if that all shapes up. So we'll have more then. But couldn't resist getting on here for a little for a cheer. And and look, just give it to me straight, Matt. This is still, I mean, short of the, you know, super shitty possible weird outcomes. This is great news, right? I mean there's no reason to like kick ourselves in the nuts over this, right. I mean we could just be happy about it.
0:26:22 Matt: Yeah Well Yeah, no, it's great news for for everybody, but it's, it's also not great for news for the United States, I will say. Not great for a credit rating and such, but
0:26:52 Thomas: Sure. Yeah. Better than not doing anything though as I think.
0:26:58 Matt: Absolutely. Absolutely. No, I was just about to say that. Credit looks a lot worse if we're just not prosecuting people. But no, good news. Let's enjoy it. Sorry to be a downer. We'll see you soon.
0:27:00 Thomas: Yeah. Oh gosh. No, no. Any, any other final thoughts or we, shall we leave it until next we meet?
0:27:12 Matt: No? I think that's good.
0:27:13 Thomas: All right. Well, cheers, everybody. And of course, I know cheers means anything. Whatever you want to cheers could be toothpaste. You could be going to bed and you're just brushing. Cheers with your little toothbrush.
0:27:15 Matt: Yeah.
0:27:25 Thomas: But this is so worth celebrating. I'm going to have a lovely evening of editing all fucking night. And then if I'm ever done with that, I'll see if my wife is still awake. And she won't be because of baby. But it's still great. I'm still happy about it. It's fine. It'll be fine. Everybody else is having a good night, too.
0:27:37 Matt: Well, this was fun. Anytime.
0:27:40 Thomas: All right, Matt. We'll see you very soon.
0:27:42 Matt: All right. Later.
0:28:20 Thomas: I never remember, precedes him? How does that, grammar check, What is that? Precedes him? Whatever. Precede? Proceed? What is that? Fuck. Precedes Him?
0:28:29 Matt: Not sure what you're getting at
0:28:30 Thomas: Preceeds Him. Which word is that when you're like your reputation precedes you?
0:28:33 Matt: Isn't goes oh pros pre precedes
0:28:36 Thomas: Precedes you. Okay. The
0:28:36 Matt: Precedes yeah there we go yeah sure
